I've owned the Ipod... the LG that was supposed to be great... and now the Droid... and I can say... hands down... this is a great phone... the manual keyboard... not so hot... but the touch screen versions are very usable...

One of verizons top phones.. Zack I live in Georgia and drive an 18 wheeler up and down the east coast and have no major issues with signal.. Whens the last time you updated. I may lose a bar or 2 in parts of virginia at most. No complaints here had my droid bout 2 weeks now
yes Motorola did have issues a while ago with their phones but NOW they are under a new CEO and production and design team there phones are grade A now and can rival top of the line phones. They are a good company now.
i dont get the whole widest 3g network thing, on their commercials where it says they have no 3g, im getting 3g on my at&t iphone so i think that map is a big lie, and i think the only difrence between this and other smart phones is voice and the notification tab, which might be worth it if you have a spare 200$ i think im going to get one but i wish i could stay on at&t =(

I bought the Droid on Monday. There are so many things I love about this phone, but the two major ones are the fact that it is on Verizon's network (way better than AT&T's) and the SOUND when you're on the phone is amazingly crisp and loud. It has the best speaker I've ever heard on a cell phone. The speakerphone function is loud and clear, too. Great phone on the best network. Totally psyched with this thing.
IPhone is just as fat and it doesn't even have a qwerty!!!!! They really gotta reduce the size, i hear when it comes to verizon it is going to be a little smaller, thank goodness!!!

iPhone 3G S has a 3MP camera which is more than enough, it does have a 600Mhz processor (made by samsung), 256Mo of RAM, the screen does have high res and it DOES have a separate graphics card (PowerVR SGX)... idiot
One camera is not as good as the droids the processor on the droid is top of the line there is NO other phone that has as high of a processor along with the ram being alot larger. The droid allows you to multitask (iphone doesn't) and the droid actually gets 3G service unlike the iphone where you are LUCKY to get 3G if at all any service.
This is a top of the line processors unfortunately its "competition" the iphone fails to have it. I wasn't saying no smartphone had it just not the iphone.
thats great...now get back to me when 50mhz is a HUGE difference and when we search the web how come mine comes quicker than my friends iPhone 3gs both on 3g connection. Processor doesnt mean shit if you cant do anything. iPhone is an AMAZING device...but Droid hands down has more capabilites with an OPEN operating system. Its like the xbox 360 and the ps3. 1. With regard to your "OPEN" comparison using the 360 / ps3, it isn't really accurate anymore now that Sony removed Linux support from their newer models.
2. The only drawback I see with the Droid currently is the OS is based on Java which still has issues with effective memory management, watch one of Google's game dev for Droid vids.

@kladivous A company in Taiwan has released information that Verizon has an iPhone coming. It'll be a bit smaller in size, and apparently available in summer 2010. I'll still enjoy the droid when I get it, but if this is true (which seems to be the case) then iPhone users will have the option of keeping the phone they love on a better network. Also, the company in Taiwan is the manufacturing company of iPhone components. Google it for more info.

iPhone 100,000 apps. Some apps have free and paid version. That drops your total count by 50% on those apps. Some are themed and have multiple copies of same app just different theme. We need a unique app count not total count. BUT...that is advertising for ya...
does it really matter how many apps there are? because seriously, how many people are going to go through every one of the thousands of apps. and having less apps probably means better, less repetetive ones too.

Google Voice is old news, their App marketplace looks weak, notification panel is decent and works during apps, 3G network is admittedly better, camera looks ok, removable battery is nice, dual keyboard seems unnecessary and bulky, not a bad phone.
In short, the Droid is still inferior to the iPhone, but is decent enough to have a good customer base. The biggest selling point to me still seems to be Verizon's superior network. But as far as the actual phone, iPhone is still superior.
Yeah, but you can just unlock the phone via jailbreak and get a verizon sim... even so there are many limitations to verizons network, such as no simultaneous voice + data connections, etc.
There are some Blackberrys that have SIM cards but only to be used if traveling outside of the U.S. The technology used by VZW here doesnt use SIM cards

I have a Verizon cell through work and I find myself using that more, even for personal use. Sure the iPhone is great, but when the network isn't there... what good is it?

2. The only drawback I see with the Droid currently is the OS is based on Java which still has issues with effective memory management, watch one of Google's game dev for Droid vids.

Dude I owned the Iphone for 25 days and couldnt stand AT&T its not the Iphone i dont like its the damn network. There are things about the Iphone i dont like. But all in all they are pretty comparible. However with AT&T and Verizon? there is NO comparison

I agree to your points, AT&T's network is crap. I wish exclusivity agreements weren't allowed at all.
I would say after about another year or two of maturation of the droid OS / Java backend, I may very well be making the switch when that time comes and my contract expires.
It really is just little things that bugs me like when my uncle was showing me his droid phone and scrolling through his contact list was actually choppy. I'm wanting to blame Java for everything, but I digress.

@kladivous A company in Taiwan has released information that Verizon has an iPhone coming. It'll be a bit smaller in size, and apparently available in summer 2010. I'll still enjoy the droid when I get it, but if this is true (which seems to be the case) then iPhone users will have the option of keeping the phone they love on a better network. Also, the company in Taiwan is the manufacturing company of iPhone components. Google it for more info.

Finally can ditch t-mobile been using the G1. Love the phone, hate the network and company. I would use it on AT&T but I would never have a chance at 3g because of the different frequency. T-Mobile just got 3g here but its still slow and unreliable.

iPhone 100,000 apps. Some apps have free and paid version. That drops your total count by 50% on those apps. Some are themed and have multiple copies of same app just different theme. We need a unique app count not total count. BUT...that is advertising for ya...

Google Voice is old news, their App marketplace looks weak, notification panel is decent and works during apps, 3G network is admittedly better, camera looks ok, removable battery is nice, dual keyboard seems unnecessary and bulky, not a bad phone.
In short, the Droid is still inferior to the iPhone, but is decent enough to have a good customer base. The biggest selling point to me still seems to be Verizon's superior network. But as far as the actual phone, iPhone is still superior.

Yeah, but you can just unlock the phone via jailbreak and get a verizon sim... even so there are many limitations to verizons network, such as no simultaneous voice + data connections, etc.

There are some Blackberrys that have SIM cards but only to be used if traveling outside of the U.S. The technology used by VZW here doesnt use SIM cards

MASSIVE PROCESSOR! KILLER FEATURES! IT EVEN FEEDS YOUR BABY! DOES YOUR HOMEWORK! AND has annoying announcer guys, like hes putting this phone across as some sexually exciting ultra device. Seriously, all those features arent exactly new or ground breaking. Besides, you can see heaps of things that were just borrowed off the iPhone OS...

With an at&t account with 4 lines, all iPhones. While we already discussed switching from at&t. We will be looking not only at Verizon but also the Droid. I have a Verizon cell through work and I find myself using that more, even for personal use. Sure the iPhone is great, but when the network isn't there... what good is it?

@coffeemcup: lol, you'd rather the ad spend time showing you that the PHONE can make a call oppsed to it showing you that it can connect to WiFi b/c "nowadays, what can't?" lol, "nowadays" there are several phones that cant, but what we DON'T have "nowadays" are phones that don't make calls. lol =P there's no need for us to see that the phone makes calls for us to know that it does, but a lot of ppl may not have known it connects to WiFi if the ads didn't say so. =)
