The brain damage is related to thiamine (vitamin B-group) deficiency. Same things occur in harsh prison conditions when food is scarce. Alcohol has effect in thiamine intake, but only when taken to extreme. Google it again, please.

Alcoholism is a destructive sickness - brains included. One big sip ain't alcoholism.
