Damn vid... made me reconsider getting the vhull. Had a question... is boat as rough as they say on lakes that's the thing stopping from getting the jon boat.
Nice...have done a little, but gives me good ideas...just worry about the added weight. part of the allure of the jon boat is the light weight....still....well done!
you should see what ive done with mine.. the guy i bought it from didnt belive it was the same boat... custom trolling motor tilt steering wheel, 50hp, cd/fm/ipod, 8 speakers.. floor, 3 cubbies and three swivel seats with a deck in the front and back.. just a great boat..damn I love it! 14ft, 4 ft wide v hull bout 20'' deep.. vid comin soon!
hola amigo me gusto mucho tu lancha q hiciste . Yo quiero hacer una pero no tengo el plano para tener la medidas exactas si tu me puedes ayudar facilitando me un Plano telo agradecería.. Este mi correo pedro_skates9@hotmail.com
Fantastic Job man! I have a 12 ft Jon Boat that I'm thinking about doing some customizations on. Probably won't turn out that well though! Awesome job.
wow. amazing job man..i just turned 18 and have been trying to find a good jon boat to fix up like this, looks kinda complicated too haha but good job
how thick of plywood is that for the floorboards and box top things. Trying to build a casting deck for my john boat but I'm afraid it might break it from to much weight. Great video, beautiful boat!
Doesn't the weight from all of the added wood restrict your overall carrying capacity? I put my 14 ft jon out in the lake last week for the first time, 2 guys and I felt like the weight of 1 more guy would have sank us. Really wobbly too, does the wood stabilize the boat at all?
hey there i just purchase the same boat as you did. I am wanting to install a deck but not sure how to secure to boat. did you just screw into the ribs or build off the seats?
@mariner10rpr - It is a 5HP and planing isn't an issue given top speed is about 9MPH, the boat is safe for two adults, that is its design and limitation.
Hey great video. I found it very helpful , I just finished rebuilding my 14' starcraft thanks to your video it turned out way better than i ever thought it could! I hope to have a video posted soon
Pretty sweet! Im thinking about carpeting my 14 foot aluminum. I like how you got the rear over the gas tank. I got a nice idea from what you have on here. Thanks for sharing!
Wow! Amazing job!. I am looking to build something like this. Perfect functionality, And well ballanced/ lightweight. I love the storage setup. What kind of motors are you running on it. Would just a trolling motor suffice, Or is an outboard necessary?
Hi, great work done... congratulations... a question: This outboard motor, the Briggs & Stratton, How is it performance with this boat with all the desks installed and you driving it? I mean Can it move the boat in a good way? Thanks.
question is how did it do in the water....seems like you added a fair amount of weight to the boat...watch out for the wake of some idiot coming over the sides....let me know how it did in sea trials
SWEEEEEEEEEEET video ok this is about my 50th time watching this video lol. But it is way worth my time they give me so many ideas. My jon boat that i got is set up like yours. If your middle bench seat was taken out and it was a big open deck it would be just like mine except mine has gray carpet and it has a 2001 25hp johnson. I cant wait for spring to come so i can get it out and go fishing and enjoy the wildlife and water. But once again this is a sweet video and keep it up. Great ideas!!!!!
Hey i really like you video and i have watched it so many time. I think you should make another video and post it. Maybe of you fishing or running the boat or an overview on the water? I dont know but you really should do another video of your boat. Hope to see one soon. :-)
I have a 25hp evinrude that keeps missing and jumping out of geat at full speed only not at half or less. If anybody knows the cause or a way to fix it please comment and let me know.
Great video. I dont know how many times i've watched this video for ideas. They are great little boats. Great job on the boat. By the way what is ""academy"" or something like that, that you got lots of those parts from like the live well water pump and the 12 volt cigarette lighter. Please comment and let me know. Once again great job on the boat.
Awesome!!! I just bought a little project jon and i came on youtube looking for some ideas.I got exactly what I was looking for from your video. I will def have to use the bow build. Thats awesome! Thanks for posting this video!!!!
GREAT JOB!!! I'm currently doing research on how to mod my aluminum boat and your video helped me greatly, I hope you don't mind but I'm going to steal some of your great ideas. Thanks for the wonderful video.
How does all the weight of the wood affect it? My jon is rated for like 350lbs and is low in the water with just me and my buddy. All that plywood, both motors, gas and the battery must add over 100lbs. Do you fish with 2 people a lot?
Great job though. I just bought a jon boat clamp today so as to put a seat on it, but now I'm thinking about returning it and getting busy on some customization.
Great job! It's amazing what you can do with a simple small aluminum boat. I just bought a brand new (2008) 12'1" aluminum (Crestliner) v-haul with a Yamaha 4 hp outboard. I was going to buy a brand new 14' 9.9 hp outboard but with current gas prices just getting to work every day, I was forced to cut back on how much I could spend on a boat, especially since I wanted to pay in cash (no payments). Your video inspired me to do some special work on my new boat. Thanks for some great ideas.
Very nice job on the boat and video. It is amazing what a few beers and some free time can accomplish. I hope to do something similar in a few years as a winter father/son project.
Looks good but doesn't it drive you nuts having the seats so low? I fished a day on a 12 with seats like that for a 4 hr shift once and it was torture on the sides of my legs.
No not really the seats are actually pretty high because in the back you are putting your feet where the mid decks are, in the front it is really base to face rear and you are also seated quite high then. It is about like sitting in a typical office chair.
I often pull the front seat as I fish alone and just chill out on the front deck taking a snooze drift fishing etc. If you were sitting in front facing front it would get old I am sure.
@jjspirko nice boat man i just bought me a 16fot johnboat with a troling motor and an center concel with a trailer for 200$ and im hopin to turn it into somthing as nice as yours
Very nice... Great job.Looks very good. IM getting ready to start on my boat this weekend. May have to write you to ask some questions on how you did yours. How much did you end up spending?
I am not totally sure what I spent as I did not keep real good track but I would say under five hundred dollars minus the motors which I already had. If you have any questions just ask I am glad to help where I can.
Agreed great job. So how is that Briggs motor, I have a 12 foot Jon and have been thinking about getting one. How well does it push you boat with all the weight and all on it.
That is the number one question I seem to get. To me the Briggs is a great motor. I would rather have a 10-15 HP on the boat just for the speed factor and I fish some lakes where I like to cover quite bit of water. That is a limiting factor but if you are going to go with a 5HP of any kind then the Briggs will do what any of them do, it uses very little gas, always starts and runs like a champ. It is a bit noisy but at 40% of any other 5HP it is a small exchange to make.
Nice video man, and your web page is really cool lots of details and ideas. Thanks for taking the time to document all this. When can we see some footage of it out on the lake.
