Technically, it wasn't in the fries. McDonald's frying oil used to be composed of 97% beef suet and 3% cottonseed oil.

Now McDonald's fries are cooked in more heart healthy oil, but are artificially flavored to mimic the the beefy taste that so many McD's junkies have been hooked on as children.

@DaughterxOfxBlaze Beef tallow (fat) used to be used to fry McDonald's french fries.  Everyone said it's what gave their fries that "extra something". But they switched to using vegetable shortening now. :,(
