great song! I was lucky enough to get a ticket too watch Tin Machine at Cambridge corn exchange in 89 I think, absolutely brilliant gig in such a small venue and Bowie was as ever the quintessential showman!!
@hellstomper88 Yep, Harley was funny that day. ..he even got Bowie to announce a CroMags show for him...good times! I miss the secret video tapings in the 80's, it was great!
EVERYTIME i hear this BADASS tune, i yell: "you're dead,ya just aint burried yet". as a drummer its my pleasure/DUTY to hate guitar playin/spot light hoggin/VOLUMEDOGS!!!!! but, i say but, REEVES!?!? WOW, gotta tip my(many)hats. 10 steps into the crazycrazy. HEAVENS IN HERE.???? solo from hell at the end!!!!1st time i heard it my jaw dropped. would LOVE to have the F.U., I LOVE TIN MACHINE t-shirt. thanxxx 4 posting for sure.
You got it... Great Idea... Design a shirt that they are... Like some Fkd up Tin man from Wizard of Oz Teeth, claws.. etc. Get Bowie to do it all again..They were really Fkn good....
You know what? I know what an institution he is and respect Bowie as a major Rock Icon, but he has never been my cup of tea, BUT I love him and like him A LOT with Tin Machine.
I was lucky enough to see Tin Machine at The Sting in New Britain and they nearly blew the roof off the place. In retrospect, Bowie's involvement is kind of macabre, but he obviously felt a need to express himself with a harder sound at that time. For a short-lived project they made quite the mark. This video is tribute to the "tear'em up" musical stylings of the group. Good stuff!
I saw Tin Machine at the Tower Theater in Philly in November of 91. They rocked the house! I remember Reeves tossed a chrome dildo into the crowd and let audience members hold the thing up to his guitar strings while he held the various chords. The vibrations on the strings made the coolest sounds! Bowie was shirtless through most of the show. He also got rather nasty with Tony at one point for missing his cue. The T-shirts they were selling said in HUGE PRINT, "FUCK YOU, I LOVE TIN MACHINE!"
This Band was a freak of nature. Nothing Bowie ever did sounded anything like this. Hell, he had Soupy Sales son playing guitar (or bass?) with him. This band was hard.
Alot of people didn't like Bowie and Tin Machine but they rocked and hard. This is damn good music.Ziggy be damned here.A number of Bowie "classics" came out of this era in his career IMHO. I can't read,This jewel here, video crime...yes Tin Machine shorted lived but not forgotten in the long run....
Hmm. I thought this was the video where Bowie played a headless guitar (very trendy in the early 80's), but it isn't. Anyone know what video I am talking about?
Best fucking Bowie song EVER.... really puts Bigotry and Hate out in the forefront. "This is the west, get used to it, they put a Swasitka over the Door" and "You're dead, you just ain't burried yet!" ^_^
this project was somewhat written off by critics and some fans at the time, which is amazing because it was Bowie finding his muse once again after about 7 yrs making streamlined records that were becoming less and less successful. It was Reeves Gabrels who brought him back to where he needed to be. in fact, this is the hardest he's ever rocked in his entire career.
On that note, he's not afraid to step outside of the "box". Look at the variety of styles throughout his career. He doesn't chase styles or fads trying to keep up, he's far ahead of the crowd, setting standards to be reached by ordinary acts.
oooh yeah.....exploding energy with this great song!!!!

One question: where is their security to keep all these muppets from invading the stage? Or did Tin Machine let this happen deliberately?

The first part of this song was based on an incident in Portland, Oregon, in which skinheads murdered an African immigrant.

I think Tin Machine kind of goes back to Bowie's punkier Berlin/Scary Monsters times, but it does have a harder edge.
