If you haven't played American football, football/soccer or rugby then your opinion isn't worth anything. Most people who put american football are to close minded to atleast try to understand it. But like I said unless you have even played it, your opinion is worth sh*t.
People need to be quiet talking about what sports are 'macho' and what sports are for 'fags'. Different sports suit different people and we should all respect that different sports all require some kind of tactics, skill and heart exceed in that sport. Let's stop being childish . . .
@bleedblue69 The US did not enter the tournament in 99 or 2003. 07 was our first attempt and we won. "USA Football used a strict criteria to select team members. Interestingly, this does not allow the top American football players in the United States to compete as the restrictions include:

The British empire took the game everywhere, pretty much.

Imagine going to the movies, and every few minutes the movie was interupted for advertisments! That's how most feel about NFL so never give it a real chance.
I don't like the breaks but it doesn't kill the game for me. I would love it though if the whole game had to be like it is when they do a hurry up offense.

Well you get used to it, especially if you've grown up on it.
What I'm really saying is to really understand why NFL has little international following, you have to look at it from the perspective of the people who don't watch it.
I'm sure most sports fans, atleast rugby fans, would thoroughly enjoy NFL. But it's real hard to get past the breaks. They are annoying as shit if you aren't raised on them.
Remember that in most sports, there isn't 1, not even 1, single commercial break.
you havent seen a sports party until you have seen a queensland state of origin party me and my mates have held 2 so far this yr was MASSIVE cause of qld winning 4th straight serises
in queensland(state in australia) rugby league is the #1 sport and origin is a religion
Wales England South Africa New Zealand Samoa Ireland France Tonga Fiji If you add the populations of all those countries combined, do they even compare to the USA? LOL BTW, Those were all under the British Empire (except for France) Bububub..Its not just the English empire!
god, i've seen stupid people all over the world but calm down people. you have to be extremely literal minded or completely simple to actually think that because its called FOOTball its played with the feet. Chill man, chill.
Another part of why its called FOOTBALL in america is because when it was first organized they had a bunch of immigrants and they needed a universal name for the new sport, so they called it football
whats the point...the sport is called american football so what do you expect..in sport terms this should be the most prestigious american football tournament
He was being sarcastic. Because of the fact nobody outside of America really cares about it. I've never heard of american football being played in the UK and i live here.
The problem with American football growth is the American people. As a culturally ignorant and arrogant nation most American fans have no desire to grow the game internationally. That's why it fails internationally.
You misread my statement. Clearly the NFL want to go. The money they spend on advertising outside of America is blatant. Their attempted NFL Europe. As you mention the game in London every year.
I was referring to the American people. Who seem content with an international football tournament being held in Ohio.
How can you compare international viewership with a major international competition, and a domestic competition? To be honest with you it is amazing that the Superbowl has any international viewers at all. I love international sports but I don't think American Football needs to be internationalized.
Why? Because you think so? Lucky the rest of the world disagrees. Other countries are adopting it. Yes it can be complicated but take it in baby steps, then walk, then run. Any sport can seem complicated at first, but the more you watch, the more you learn and the more you understand.
In America we are adopting Rugby League. There are some idiots there who won't support it but like you, hopefully they will be the minority. Both are great sports to watch and more is better.
Wow im glad to hear you guys are starting to adopt rugby league cause once you get to know the game you will love it just as much as we do. Im a HUGE rugby league fan and also a big fan of the american football now, im starting to learn more from watching local & nfl teams. also jono210 you will find the same amount of rules in rugby league, aswell the aussie comp NRL has dif rules to the world cup rules
I am really looking forward to watching the Rugby League games live. We will have one of the first 8 pro teams right here in Jacksonville Florida.
This will be a spring sport here starting in March. So this sport does not need to compete with Football. How can it, they are two different sports.
people need to stop the dick measuring contests and those who like Rugby and have never played football need to STFU and stop talking about it as if they know anything about Football. Enjoy both.
I play football and rugby here america, they really balance out. During summer/fall i play football and during spring i play rugby, I dont think ive ever been out of shape.
US should taken this competition seriously or many people around the world that know a little bit about American football or never heard of it get the wrong idea that Japan is better that US.
I think America should just stay out of the World Cup because it not very fair. I mean we grew up on it and they are just getting started. Why should we spoil everyone fun.
yeah, but they got invited so how could they refuse. and team usa is made of college players i wonder how much damage they would deal if it were NFL players...hmm....HAVOK
im from switzerland, football is for us that what you see here, soccer is what they play with the round ball and what they play in new zealand or australia we dont know because its not on tv here anywhere. when we talk german its fussball for soccer and football for the nfl or college. and thats a fact
Why does American football continue to copy Soccer in its naming of events. First they try to say its "football" like soccer when its "American Football" to be more correct and know they are trying to copy soccer's WORLD CUP title. i mean you cant name it "World Cup of American Football" when only one country plays it.
First of all there are several games called "football". Second the U.S. did not start the American Football World Cup. This was the first year a U.S. team competed in it.
its called the superbowl in the united states...this is called the world cup of american football because about 30 or so countries played in it..the U.S. just beat japan in the video..germany and switzerland were beat by these two teams...p.s. soccer is a girly fairy childs game
lol at least in REAL "FOOT"ball they don't wear gay gear and sissy protection. I don't mean to sound so harsh, but american football clothes r really gay. And in no way is it football lol. The foot touches (or can touch) the ball once every touchdown, or during field goal attempts. So it's like only for like a couple of minutes of total time in the game.
American football is a pretty awesome game, but it's not FOOTball, and the clothes r creeping me out.
@derrickSL11 Actually, it is called football because it derived from Rugby Football, which had the same parent as soccer had, which was also called football. The same parent also gave us Gaelic Football and Australian Football.
not even that its liek ur wearing compresion pants too also why would i want to run with loose clothign that someone can grab on rly easy too finally the tightness doestn feel tight at all there rly comfortable lol
No, I don't give a fuck, I can run around the feel naked if need be xD, but as an answer to ur question, I'd rather wear shorts ya, not compression, but normal shorts. And I only post the comment about "FOOT" shit, 'cause ppl saying real football (soccer) is shit and for pussies. Well lemme tell you, then American football is a sissy game, compared to Rugby.
And about clothing, I guess I actually don't give a fuck anymore =P I just wanted to find something negative about A.F. but I like it=)
sometimes yes, but at other times A.F. can be cruel. Few restrictions on tackling and no restriction on force applied. But hey, i've never watched rugby completely, just seen highlights and whatnot. But search "Turkey Jones sack Terry Bradshaw" Thats why im a Cleveland Browns fan : )
haha, no thats completely illegal. the only time it ever happened.
the only restrictions are grabbing a guy by the face-mask, helmet to helmet contact, grabbing underneath the back of the shoulderpad(broken legs), and "spearing". Thats being airborn and hitting with your helmet to the other guy's chest. You'll get a broken neck and he'll be paralyzed : (
Football is an expensive venture. Most high schools in America have Football teams. Think of the cost for other countries to do that. Soccer on the other hand is a very inexpensive sport. A ball and a couple of nets and that's about it. Every time I see Soccer I think of Hockey. At least in Hockey they get in fights and stuff.
Why can't you get it through your thick skull? You are making yourself look like an ass. Just shut the fuck up, before I get pissed-off even more. You fail, now go kill yourself, because you are lowering the overall intelligence of mankind.
Just shut the fuck up! You are wasting my time. You are not worth the effort of fighting, since you are a stupid fucker that doesn't realize that you are making yourself look like an even bigger ass than you already are. Bottom line: Soccer sucks. Only faggots play soccer. American football kicks soccer's ass. Baseball also kicks soccer's ass. Now shut the fuck up, because I am no longer wasting my time with a stupid fag that is making himself look like an ass.
Fucketh thee. I hath already pwned thee. You fail to realize that kicking a crappy ball around is not exciting, the card penalties are truly gay, no hands is gay, and soccer players are weak bitches, and American football players like Dan Marino and baseball players like Hank Aaron or Stan Musial would kick soccer players' asses. Also, baseball is fun. Play baseball with people that can actually play, and you will find it fun. Also, most games end in a shitty tie of 1 to 1. STFU, n00b.
I predict that someday this will become like basketball in the Olympics. What I mean is, other nations will learn more about it and start to catch up in talent with America. This is like 20-30 years down the road or something, what I'm saying. And who knows? We might have to start sending some of our best players. Not NFL, but seniors from college or guys going into the NFL or CFL.
20-30 years!!! wow!!! American football was a demo sport @ the 1904 and 1932 summer olympics!!! the US had that opportunity to spread the sport globally in 1904 and 1932 if they did. football wouldve been easily been recognized by the IOC in the 90s and would have been a full medal sport starting in Atlanta 96!!! we really screwed up!!! that time!!! right now american football would become an olympic sport @ the 2024 summer olympics
huh? I never said anything about american football becoming an olympic sport. Soccer isn't an Olympic sport, either, but it's the world's most popular sport. What I'm saying is that in this, the American Football World Cup, Japan and Germany and other countries will continue to get better and start challenging the US more.
Real classy, sharky. I'm sure you can forgive someone if they don't watch soccer often enough to know it's an Olympic sport. I thought it had the World Cup and then had to wait a few years for the next one. No need to be a bitch.
Rest of the world? the Uk is the only english speaking country on earth that calls soccer football. thats probably because your in europe where its called futbol. can you name another country?
lol i serch american football world usa put a team out of divion I II III colleges and not the good player the no name 1s and they still won the world cup
Don't under estimate the Japanese! They really are beasts, they almost beat us at our own game! Of course, these are all the guys that didnt make it in any of the leagues (NFL, AFL, CFL, ect.) so they're basically our 3rd stringers, plus the D2 talents. So really, it's even. It wouldn't if we had the likes of LT, Brady, on the field!
Fuck Tom Brady! Japan could kick his ass! Now, if you said Dan Marino or Joe Monatana (as they were in the '80s), or the entire 1972 Dolphins as they were in 1972, then you'd be correct.
Im glad to see this exists because the US needs some national pride.
And you cant compare soccer and american football. They are completely different. Same with Rugby. Rugby is free flowing, American Football isnt, why compare?
Also the rugby players won by so much in rugby because there is no such thing as a dwon you cunt. American football is slower paced.
Fuck you! American football rules! Soccer is for faggots, homos, gays, closet cases, the feminine, and anyone who was rejected from far better sports like American football, baseball, ice hockey, or basketball.
look....no one is gonign to win this argument....its everyones opinion english players are 90% going to say that rugby is beta and that american footballers are pussies etc and american football players are going to say that rugby players cant give good hits etc they are very diffrenet games anyway....american football is a pre-tatic game with set plays and hard hits and rugby is a free flowing game with hard hits also lol
If you haven't played American football, football/soccer or rugby then your opinion isn't worth anything. Most people who put american football are to close minded to atleast try to understand it. But like I said unless you have even played it, your opinion is worth sh*t.

THawkoo 2 years ago
I don't know where you keep getting this 15 million viewers outside of N. America watching the Super Bowl from.
The Super Bowl was broadcast in 232 countries worldwide and the NFL estimates 850 million to 1 Billion people watched the Super Bowl last year.
150 million people in the USA watched it. There's only 30 million people in Canada and 100 million people in Mexico.
That's at most 280 million viewers for N. America. That would leave atleast 570 million viewers worldwide.
THawkoo 2 years ago
Well the NFL estimate is completely wrong. LMAO.
The superbowl didn't get anywhere near 280 million you idiot. It never has.

Remember that in most sports, there isn't 1, not even 1, single commercial break.

god, i've seen stupid people all over the world but calm down people. you have to be extremely literal minded or completely simple to actually think that because its called FOOTball its played with the feet. Chill man, chill.
Another part of why its called FOOTBALL in america is because when it was first organized they had a bunch of immigrants and they needed a universal name for the new sport, so they called it football
darthnegate 2 years ago
whats the point...the sport is called american football so what do you expect..in sport terms this should be the most prestigious american football tournament

sming01 2 years ago
He was being sarcastic. Because of the fact nobody outside of America really cares about it. I've never heard of american football being played in the UK and i live here.
The problem with American football growth is the American people. As a culturally ignorant and arrogant nation most American fans have no desire to grow the game internationally. That's why it fails internationally.
z0mgrugbyreturns 2 years ago
yeah thats why the NFL has games in London every year... speaking of no desire to grow it... no what youre talking about
sming01 2 years ago
You misread my statement. Clearly the NFL want to go. The money they spend on advertising outside of America is blatant. Their attempted NFL Europe. As you mention the game in London every year.
I was referring to the American people. Who seem content with an international football tournament being held in Ohio.
Hardly shooting for the sky are you?
z0mgrugbyreturns 2 years ago 2
fair enough
sming01 2 years ago
Give me a break.
Rugby is only popular because of the british empire.
Anyone outside of the former British Empire, don't care about Rugby.
For instance, Asian countries prefer American sports to British sports.
Hell, even Germany likes our Football more than Rugby.
THawkoo 2 years ago
You obviously failed history. Soccer is popular in British much every country in the world, regardless of previous empires.
Obviously you haven't been to Asia recently. Football(English) is way more popular than any American sport. And Rugby is growing rapidly there.
The u20s rugby world cup was getting 20,000 + every game in Japan. Your world cup is being held in Ohio. infront of 8 fans. Don't kid yourself.
z0mgrugbyreturns 2 years ago
And nobody gives a fuck about Germany. That's one country.
The superbowl only gets about 15 million viewers OUTSIDE of Canada and America, so obviously not many Germans are watching
Rugby sevens soon to be an olympic sport. Rugby 2019 world cup to be held in Asia.
Rugby is growing rapidly in a ton of countries that were never under British rule.
So stfu and stop trying to argue because your world cup is held infront of 12 people in Ohio.
z0mgrugbyreturns 2 years ago
By the way, your 4.2 Billion Rugby World Cup viewership was ESTIMATED.
If you want to play that game, then the Super Bowl has 1 Billion people watch just one game.
Of course, that's estimated as well.
Oh and it was the first Junior World Championship and some of the crowds it drew were bigger than your first Rugby World Cup!
So eat a dick!
THawkoo 2 years ago
I didn't make any posts about a 4.2 billion viewership.
As it happens that number is pretty much accurate. As it reffers to CUMALATIVE viewers for the ENTIRE TOURNAMENT.(not just one game)
The fact is that the Superbowl only gets about 15 million viewers outside of North America.
The recent rugby world cup got 15 million England, 15 million in France, 15 million in South Africa.
Basically the rugby world cup gets ALOT of non British viewers. The Superbowl is mainly americans watching.

How can you compare international viewership with a major international competition, and a domestic competition? To be honest with you it is amazing that the Superbowl has any international viewers at all. I love international sports but I don't think American Football needs to be internationalized.
jono210 2 years ago
Both are great sports to watch and more is better.
imsneaky 2 years ago
Wow im glad to hear you guys are starting to adopt rugby league cause once you get to know the game you will love it just as much as we do. Im a HUGE rugby league fan and also a big fan of the american football now, im starting to learn more from watching local & nfl teams. also jono210 you will find the same amount of rules in rugby league, aswell the aussie comp NRL has dif rules to the world cup rules
rhzyo 2 years ago
I am really looking forward to watching the Rugby League games live. We will have one of the first 8 pro teams right here in Jacksonville Florida.
This will be a spring sport here starting in March. So this sport does not need to compete with Football. How can it, they are two different sports.
people need to stop the dick measuring contests and those who like Rugby and have never played football need to STFU and stop talking about it as if they know anything about Football. Enjoy both.

Thats great news for rugby league, if u have any questions about the rules or rugby league in general feel free to ask me =]

Yeah... I agree.
Coz there are also some people around the world that doesn't know the difference between Rugby and American Football.
Besides, the Japs are clever when it comes to twisting the facts easily in their anime or manga.
And some people easily deceived by it.

What? No.
Besides, its better for the sport for America NOT to CRUSH everyone we come into contact with.
If they feel its hopeless, they'll give up.
If they feel they can win, they'll try harder, and competitive games draw the attention of viewers and grow the sport.
Japan plays excellent ball. They are masters of the trick plays.

im from switzerland, football is for us that what you see here, soccer is what they play with the round ball and what they play in new zealand or australia we dont know because its not on tv here anywhere. when we talk german its fussball for soccer and football for the nfl or college. and thats a fact
robberg99 3 years ago
Why does American football continue to copy Soccer in its naming of events. First they try to say its "football" like soccer when its "American Football" to be more correct and know they are trying to copy soccer's WORLD CUP title. i mean you cant name it "World Cup of American Football" when only one country plays it.
wrightnum3 3 years ago
First of all there are several games called "football". Second the U.S. did not start the American Football World Cup. This was the first year a U.S. team competed in it.
benel08 3 years ago
its called the superbowl in the united states...this is called the world cup of american football because about 30 or so countries played in it..the U.S. just beat japan in the video..germany and switzerland were beat by these two teams...p.s. soccer is a girly fairy childs game
derrickSL11 3 years ago
lol at least in REAL "FOOT"ball they don't wear gay gear and sissy protection.
Seikenguy 2 years ago
story goes that they called it a football both cuz you play on your feet aka running, and because its 12 inches long= 1 foot
derrickSL11 2 years ago 6
@derrickSL11 Actually, it is called football because it derived from Rugby Football, which had the same parent as soccer had, which was also called football. The same parent also gave us Gaelic Football and Australian Football.

The gear is to protect us. people have died by playing this sport when it first started. so now its a law to wear full gear when playing this sport
aceofspades1092 2 years ago 2

the pants are protection too, it has to be tight for the protective pads to stay in place proberly.... besides, most of them arent white <.<

not even that its liek ur wearing compresion pants too also why would i want to run with loose clothign that someone can grab on rly easy too finally the tightness doestn feel tight at all there rly comfortable lol
koreanpakistan32 2 years ago 3
lol, not very secure in your masculinity there buddy?
you'd rather wear short shorts and compression shorts instead of some (possibly spandex XD) pants?
darthnegate 2 years ago
No, I don't give a fuck, I can run around the feel naked if need be xD, but as an answer to ur question, I'd rather wear shorts ya, not compression, but normal shorts. And I only post the comment about "FOOT" shit, 'cause ppl saying real football (soccer) is shit and for pussies. Well lemme tell you, then American football is a sissy game, compared to Rugby.
And about clothing, I guess I actually don't give a fuck anymore =P I just wanted to find something negative about A.F. but I like it=)
Seikenguy 2 years ago
lol, thats cool man. i play soccer and watch football and have to say that compression shorts are uncomfortable. necessary, but uncomfortable.
and A.F.s not a sissy game imo, 3+ hours(excluding OT) of play. But you're completely entitled to your opinion.
darthnegate 2 years ago
Well I just said compared to something =). You've gotta agree that rugby is more brutal.
Seikenguy 2 years ago
@Seikenguy
sometimes yes, but at other times A.F. can be cruel. Few restrictions on tackling and no restriction on force applied. But hey, i've never watched rugby completely, just seen highlights and whatnot. But search "Turkey Jones sack Terry Bradshaw" Thats why im a Cleveland Browns fan : )
darthnegate 2 years ago
Damn, that's some pro wrestling move there O_O Is that allowed?? I mean I know there are almost like no rules for tackling, but this is just.. =P
Seikenguy 2 years ago
haha, no thats completely illegal. the only time it ever happened.
the only restrictions are grabbing a guy by the face-mask, helmet to helmet contact, grabbing underneath the back of the shoulderpad(broken legs), and "spearing". Thats being airborn and hitting with your helmet to the other guy's chest. You'll get a broken neck and he'll be paralyzed : (

What is amazing is that America won this thing with was essential a B team squad.
southy98 3 years ago 2
Football is an expensive venture. Most high schools in America have Football teams. Think of the cost for other countries to do that. Soccer on the other hand is a very inexpensive sport. A ball and a couple of nets and that's about it. Every time I see Soccer I think of Hockey. At least in Hockey they get in fights and stuff.

Umm American football. We are better at American Football. Thats what we call Football. Not Soccer. Although the US is progressing in that sport.

VaderNES 3 years ago
Fucketh thee. I hath already pwned thee. You fail to realize that kicking a crappy ball around is not exciting, the card penalties are truly gay, no hands is gay, and soccer players are weak bitches, and American football players like Dan Marino and baseball players like Hank Aaron or Stan Musial would kick soccer players' asses. Also, baseball is fun. Play baseball with people that can actually play, and you will find it fun. Also, most games end in a shitty tie of 1 to 1. STFU, n00b.
VaderNES 3 years ago
I predict that someday this will become like basketball in the Olympics. What I mean is, other nations will learn more about it and start to catch up in talent with America. This is like 20-30 years down the road or something, what I'm saying. And who knows? We might have to start sending some of our best players. Not NFL, but seniors from college or guys going into the NFL or CFL.
mcoltrane5 3 years ago
20-30 years!!! wow!!! American football was a demo sport @ the 1904 and 1932 summer olympics!!! the US had that opportunity to spread the sport globally in 1904 and 1932 if they did. football wouldve been easily been recognized by the IOC in the 90s and would have been a full medal sport starting in Atlanta 96!!! we really screwed up!!! that time!!! right now american football would become an olympic sport @ the 2024 summer olympics
jluque111 3 years ago
huh? I never said anything about american football becoming an olympic sport. Soccer isn't an Olympic sport, either, but it's the world's most popular sport. What I'm saying is that in this, the American Football World Cup, Japan and Germany and other countries will continue to get better and start challenging the US more.
mcoltrane5 3 years ago
