  • How did u get that fat , crisp tight vocal sound on this track aswell?! its incredible

  • Im thinking of buying the K440 to use it for vocals, acoustic guitar, and a drum room mic. What other options are there on the market at similar price in a multi pattern condenser?

  • are k240s better than k141s?

  • @VictoriaStrehlau K240s are bigger then k141s. this means K240 have an around ear design and some prefer a around ear design like the K240, and some an near design like the K141s. Philipp from AKG

  • NICE voice.

  • I love her voice. Sounds great on the 420.

  • I want P170!

  • Beautiful voice with song. Thank you.

  • It would be nice to know what those mics are plugged in to. Probably some million dollar channel strip. It would be nice to know AKG. I like the tone, I'm just curious.

  • @Timzsk8 We did record it in a nice small studio in Austria. They own affordable equimpent only.

  • @AKGAcoustics Wonderful. Thank You for clarifying that. AKG rocks!

  • I bought an AKG Perception 420 but I can't figure out if the bass cut filter is switched on if you turn it to the right of left. Can anyone tell me?

  • @sabathiel01 Move the switch to the left to activate the bass cut filter

  • @joncmaxwell Yes, it would work for small distances up to 3 meters. For bigger distances we recommend so-called shogun mics e.g. AKG C 568 B

  • So these two headphones are perfect then? I wanted to get a good set of headphones for recording.

  • @Destroysall The AKG 271 MkII have become the standard for studio work (playback, mixing, mastering)

  • @Destroysall i own the k240mkII, there pretty decent

  • Who wrote this song? i love the song, your rendition .... you able to share the guitar chords?

  • @hulakruner Have a look in the credits in the video

  • Do you have any recordings of just the P 170? I'm thinking of buying one, but want to hear it on an acoustic instrument first without anything else (ie VOX) if possible. Thanks :)

  • @Charlie18061 @Charlie18061 sorry we have no recording of just the P170. Check out our other perception video I can fly at at 0:53 you can hear the P170 just with a Hihat.

    Hope that helped.

  • What mic pre was used for vocal recording of this demo?

  • what do you reckon would be best for vocals?

  • PREAMP AND INTERFACE USED FOR THIS VIDE????

  • Is this a good mic to record distortion?

  • I have the AKG Perception 200. It's an awsome mic i bought it brand new in 08. I just need to get the right audio cable for it so i won't keep getting the static sound when i try adjusting it... Any sugestions?

  • @BigVStudio There are some good cables available on the market e.g. Klotz, Sommer Cable, Cordial,... but please also consider high-quality XLR connectors e.g. Neutrik, Switchcraft,...

  • I am producing trance music, sometimes hip hop beat orders..I need good monitoring headphones..Which ones can you recommend?

    Thanks you.

  • @madedd02 AKG's most successful studio headphones for monitoring are K 271 MkII, K 240 MkII and K 702. If want the best performance I would go for the K 702. The K 271 MkII are also a good choice for playback because they are closed-back headphones and automatically mute the signal when they are not in use.

  • hello i am french

    i have a question please !!

i have perception 420 but why its not same quality sound that the video please lool ?

  • @mirsa7878 It should have the same quality due to our quality control. Please note that in the video all signals are mixed. Usually sound engineers use EQs and compression to fit in the mix. Moreover, they also use effects like delays and reverb. In case your product is defective please get in contact with your dealer.

    TomStu from AKG

  • Which one is better for vocal recording.

    820 or 220 or 420?

  • @hellgirl1512 I would go for the Perception 820 Tube. It is the best in this class and it is the best in its class.

  • how could such amazing musicians fail to invoke any feeling from their music

  • song was bad. but mics were awesome!

  • Please tell us wich pre-amp was used?

I'm planning to buy whis mic a.s.a.p.

  • @vZamfir I used my Vintech Audio 473 I found on an well known auction site. Really nice preamp!

    Thomas from HeadRoom

  • this is awesome!!!!!!!1

  • Is this recorded live? If so, how do you get it to sound like that, I know the mic may be good but what are doing to make it sound already recorded?

  • @CastleRecordz Hello! It was recorded live to DAW while filming and I mixed and mastered it afterwards, no edits, a little EQ and compression and some reverb as our rooms are pretty dry!

    Thomas from HeadRoom

  • What preamp was used?

  • @connerschultz12 I used my Vintech Audio 473, I think. Nice Preamp, even better if you find it cheap on a well known auction site like me!

    Thomas from HeadRoom

  • What's the difference between C 214 and 420 in the way it sounds? With 420 the voice seems more "in the face" than the other mic or my c214. Is it a microphone feature or is it an sound effect? What sound interface did you use for recording this?

  • @formatienuntasuceava As the C 214 and Perception 420 are both great microphones. Like any instrument or voice, they have their own character. Regarding the sound interface please ask "TheHead75"

    TomStu from AKG

  • because there are 8 / HALF 0 AND 0

    after there are ( - 20db ) and 0

    after there are - and ( - down )

    sorry i am french

  • what are the best setting for perception 420 ?

  • @mirsa7878 The setting depends on your application. There is a great book which I like. It is written by Norbert Pawera and called "Microphone Practice".

    TomStu from AKG

  • what they don't tell you is the mixing/mastering chain used, along with what hardware outboard gear was used for tracking...

  • @mulletchuck I used a Vintech Audio 473 for tracking and no additional outboard gear for mixdown (just ITB EQ/compression/reverb) to keep it as simple and true to the mic signal and also to make it achievable for everyone!

feel free to ask or go to my website!

    cheers

    thomas

  • @TheHead75

that In The Box EQ and Compression colors the sound. you should've released the video without that stuff on the signal path, if you really wanted to present an accurate version of the mics.

  • @mulletchuck Every EQ or Compressor colors the sound, that's one of it's intended uses! We wanted to show what these mics are capable of and what final result you can achieve with them. If a pure microphone signal is good in itself, it can be enhanced to make it shine. If it is bad, it stays bad, no matter how much EQ or whatever you use!

  • If I'm only using it for voice over, is there any advantages of the P420 over the p220?

I know the p420 has more patterns, but does the p420 in cardioid mode have any advantages or differences over using the p220?

  • If I'm only using it for voice over, is there any advantages of the P420 over the p220?

I know the p420 has more patterns, but does the p420 in cardioid mode have any advantages or differences over using the p220?

  • @gorojo1 The 420 has more sensitivity, therefore is has a better signal to noise ratio.

    TomStu from AKG

  • What is the difference between AKG 220 and 420? Could you do a comparison of both (while singing the same song). I'm looking for a mic for singing (pop, folk, country...) - no rap :P and good for acoustic/electric guitar (which I would like to buy eventually) Thanks.

  • @NatDede The Percpetion 420 is the multi-pattern version of the 220 which is a cardioid version only. Both show the same dual-diaphragm capsule, therefore, the have the same sound.

  • How about recording the same song with different mics? I'm interested in difference between 420/820 in vocals

  • @formatienuntasuceava On the P 820 tube you would notice how the tube circuit would add rich harmonics to the signal. I many cases artist and sound engineers prefer tube mics due to their great sound quality.

    TomStu from AKG

  • I play fingerstyle guitar and I can't seem to get the full sound I'm looking for, capturing all the quality from the guitar like tapping the body and neck-tapping techniques etc. by using a single P240, will the P170 be a suitable addition to a possible stereo or mixed recording of an acoustic guitar?

it sounded a bit too dark and bassy when I record the guitar with a P240 in front of it.

    thanks!

  • Very Nice! What Preamp did you used for voice?

There are much difference with P820 tube?

    Thanks.

  • @osvtorr We did not use any preamps. We just plugged the microphone directly into the mixing console. The Perception 820 Tube uses tube electronics which enrich the signal. Therefore, every sound source might sound a little better than in real life ;-)

    TomStu from AKG

  • I'm about to buy the 420. what would a good preamp be???

  • @SK8AZEVERYDAY The Perception 820 Tube uses tube electronics which enrich the signal. Therefore, every sound source might sound a little better than in real life. A tube preamp is not necessary. I would plug the microphone directly to your mixing console or audio interface.

  • beautiful

  • top..

  • I love my 2 perception 170. I am not a sound engineer, i am just an amateur with limited knowledge and I manage to squeeze some magic out of them.

  • Hi AKG, I asked about recording grand piano here. After that I bought a pair of Perception 220s recently, I really love them! Just come here to say thank you, your mics are really great and the price is very reasonable also.

  • @wiwi10191019 thanks fo buying it. We hope you have lot of fun using it.

    Philipp from AKG

  • i want ask about the sound C1000s with P170.

    How about P170?

because i'm using c1000 as an overhead and it seem to dark for me..

    Thx.

  • @randyzen The P 170 is a good choice because it is a small diaphragm mic designed for instruments and drums. Some engineers prefer large diaphragm microphones like the P 420 or P 220. In my opinion the small diaphragm mic sounds more precise and the large diaphragm mic sounds fuller. Almost all sound engineers are using the cardioid pickup pattern for recording lead vocals because it is a directional pickup pattern which attenuates ambient noise and reflections from the ceiling and the walls.

  • @AKGAcoustics thanks for reply.. i bought it yesterday.. very nice mic for the price.. i like this mic than my c1000.. bright and nice for my overhead.. it's a big upgrade for me.. i have fuller overhead sounds now.. it's cheap but the quality is not cheap as the price..

i'm still shock with the color.. it's same with the duck egg in my country.. hehe..

  • I have P 200 and I have to say big thnx to AKG! Very good quality with that price.

  • I currently use an AKGc2000b to record vocals w/. I am trying to upgrade and seriously considering getting the P420. Will it be a big step up? I am a still learning, but I was under the impression that the vocal mic should be upside down and slightly higher than the singers mouth. Is that true? In the vid it's slightly lower and upright. Same difference?

The p420 mic has a really classic sound to me. I've read on musicians friend's website comparing various perception mics to the neumanu87!

  • Concerning the differences between C2000 and P420:

The biggest difference makes the large diaphragm capsule of the Perception 420. The one-inch capsule is a great choice for recording lead vocals. If you need only cardioid pickup pattern, the Perception 220 would do the same for you because it shows the same capsule.

  • Concerning the mic position for singers: A ceiling-mounted microphone sometimes shows less sensitivity on mechanical vibrations like footfall noise but it depends on the building. It some cases it can be helpful for the vocalist if the microphone is placed a little bit higher because then the singer tends to move his head up which changes the sound of his voice. Some engineers also point the microphone rather on the head or the chest to get a different sound.

  • There are so many ways to find your own personal sound and style. It is worth spending some time before recording.

Our engineers have worked hard on our Perception mics, therefore, they have an excellent value for the money. We are very happy that a lot of customers like them.

    Philipp from AKG

  • @GoodKarmaZodiacs it depends on what you prefer upsidedown gives the artist more room if they have lyric sheet , plus it gives the artist more space to express themself as far as movement of arms

  • By the way ...what sound card are using??

  • we used a rme hammerfall soundcard connected to an apogee ad converter. i don't remember the exact models.

    Philipp from AKG

  • @AKGAcoustics I have to do a little correction here, sorry. We used a RME Digiface with an SSL Alpalink Converter.

    Thomas from HeadRoom

  • man that was beutiful....especially the end vamp..would sound good with a piano.

  • Hi AKG, your mics are great! I want to record a acoustic grand piano, which Perception mic should I get?

  • For grand piano we suggest to use two large diaphragm microphones like to P 220, P 420 or P 820 Tube. In most cases the P 220 will do a great job but if you want to experiment with different settings for maximum performance we suggest a P 820 Tube or P 420. They offer more features like different pickup patterns respectively tube electronics.

    Philipp from AKG

  • how can i get a matched pair of perception 170 microphones ?

  • Our C 451, C 214 and C 414 are available as factory-matched pair. Unfortunately, we do not offer the P 170 as matched pair. Not yet ;-)

    Philipp from AKG

  • i have a question with mic

have more quality the akg perction 400 or the 420

  • the perception 420 is the newer version. it has a slightly updated mechnical design and it is able to handle a 10db higher sound pressure level as the perception 400.

all other features are the same for the 400 and 420.

    philipp from AKG

  • hallo.. can i ask..is the AKG 420 good for male rap vocals?thanks

  • Yes, the Perception 420 is also an excellent choice for male rap vocals. The true condenser large diaphragm capsule has a great sound and is recommended for a wide range of applications. However, vocal mics are always a matter of taste because they have to suit to your individual voice. Usually rap vocals are strong and intensive, therefore, we recommend using a pop filter like the AKG PF 80 together with the Perception 420 mic.

    Philipp from AKG

  • thanks for your answer..i have now Rode nt2a and my problem is taht its no so clear...low frequencies are strong...i have Pop filter no problem...

  • Superb quality i am gonna buy 420 soon
