I was in A-gang from 96-98 and oddly enough I miss that ole heifer! Too bad she's at the bottom of the Atlantic! Interested in whatever footage/videos you may have...and thanks bud!
I'm interested in the Med Cruise vid from 1994. I was USCG TACLET South, LEDET 7A and was attached to the Deyo during that Med cruise. We met the ship in Izmir, Turkey at the end of July or beginning of August and left the ship at the end of September. We trained the Deyo boarding team, integrated SEALs into the boardings and completed many boardings with Deyo personnel enfocing UN sanctions against Bosnia.
THE LADIES ALWAYS FALLING IN LOVE WITH THE DEYO OF 86-89....CRIED WHEN I LEFT...I ALMOST STAYED BUT MY FRIENDS WERE LEAVING AND WE STARTED GETTING NEW SORRY CREWMEMBERS....WHO DON'T NO HOW TO RUN A SHIP.....D-CKHEADS IN CHARGE??? IAM OUT HERE..WISH I COULD HAVE TAKEN MY DEYO WITH ME...I LOVE HER! DEYO-DD989!
MY CREW WAS FUN IN THE SUN KIND OF SAILORS.....PARTY WITH THE GIRLS AND KICK SOME BUTT IN WARGAMES OR REAL WORLD.....DRUNK OR NOT--BEST SHIP IN THE U.S. NAVY.....COOL LIKE STAR TREK 1966! FIGHTING KLINGONS AND CHASE THE STRANGE UNKNOWN PLANET FOR WOMEN!
WE HAD A GREAT SENIOR CAPTAIN I FIRST CAME TO THE DEYO...HIGHER RANK CAPTAIN GET THE BEST SEA PORTS IN BEAUTIFUL FUN EXOTIC PLACE LIKE SOUTH AMERICA.....BEAUTIFUL BEACHES AND BEAUTIFUL SEXY SPANISH LATIN WOMEN.....I DIDNT WANT TO GO BACK TO CHARLESTON FOR A LONG TIME....SOME IDIOTS DID TRY TO GO A.W.O.L. AND WAS MARRIED???
WORST TRIP I HAD WAS ESCORT DUTY DURING THE IRAN/IRAQ WAR A.K.A. THE FIRST GULF WAR--REAGAN YEARS! TALK ABOUT BEING SO BORED TIRED OR HOMESICK MISSING WOMEN? WE WANTED TO SINK ANY "SANDHEAD NAVY SHIP" (IRAN & IRAQ)--ACTION WAS SOMETHING TO DO! SINK THEM SO WE CAN GO HOME...PLEASE? 1987-88!
SPRING TIME GOOD TYPE WEATHER IN ENGLAND 1986----WE WERE GOING TO SHADOW THE SOVIET FLEET BUT MISS THEM BY A FEW DAYS OR WEEKS AND THE WHOLE CREW WAS HAPPY TO GO TO ENGLAND INSTEAD...CHASE BRITISH WOMEN IS MY FAVORITE OPS----IAM CAPT JAMES T. KIRK OF THE U.S.S. DEYO ....MR.SPOCK! SCAN FOR SEXY LADIES hahahaha!
IAM GLAD I MISSED THAT TRIP......ALL MY DEYO FUN WAS IN WARM WEATHER AND BEAUTIFUL LATIN WOMEN----I LEFT IN TIME NOT TO GO THERE....CLOSEST I BEEN WAS ENGLAND-THE BEST 21ST BIRTHDAY FOR ME
Who posted this video? I was on that cruise, 93 to 97, EM2 Kositchek. You had to bring me your cam corder at Tool Issue so I could verify it's UL and double insolation! Ha. Still got your tag?
i was part of decom crew too, that last tour we did will be the greatest memory EVER. We hit bout 7 countries and got extended and shit, it was ugly, lol.
this is SHSN Hudson, onboard the deyo 2002-2004... when we went through the suez canal to the Persian Gulf and back, i miss her so much!! Anybody from the deyo, HOOORAH!!!!
I am a plankowner having served from pre-com in '79 until June of '80. Only time I felt that cold was in the North Atlantic. So sad to hear of her final resting place at the bottom of the same ocean.
I remember both those; it was the same in the engineering berthing area. Apparently we served at the same time. IC3 SW Marquez. The best sandwich I've ever eaten was in Naples!
What a surprise! You never know what a random search will turn up... I was on board Deyo from 87-89 and, yes, it's true that she was sunk. I found an EPA report from 2005 that describes the sinking. If you're extra curious, here are the coordinates of her final resting place:
34° 56' 24" N
072° 38' 47" W
Sad, really, when you think of it. But I suppose she was only "alive" when fully manned; it's the people who lived, worked, and breathed aboard her that gave Deyo life.
Everything I can find says it was sunk as a target. All the Spruences are gone. I think they sold a few to Taiwan. The rest were sunk as targets or scrapped. They would have stripped it of everything that could be reused before sinking. That's probably why it was in Philly.

Was an EW aboard Deyo from August '85 to February '87.
Arrived while Deyo was in Portland Maine (BIW) for overhaul.
The day I left, we were up the river in Charleston taking on weapons.
We spent a lot of time in the Carribean, Gitmo, and Fort Lauderdale.

was on there 96-01. Really was a great crew. Don't think it actually got sunk. Last time I saw her she was on a river in Philly after Decom.

I served on the Deyo from 1987 - 1989. We never went anyplace that cold when I was on it. I understand she's since been sunk as a target.
