  • How come his dad doesn't sound like this?

  • Hes the only one in the series with a british accent

  • @ZenSeizure

Jamie Bamber has a british accent, too.

  • In season 4 we find out his dad speaks in an Irish accent and he's speaking Yorkshire here. What the frack continuity?

  • this show deserved awards as well as the actors.

  • holy shit i talk like that lol

i must be from Aerelon :D

  • It's Aerilon, not Aerelon.

  • @AnonymousAnimus Aerelon is the alternate way of spelling.

  • zajebi...y serial Baltar wymiata i Caprica :-)

  • Pro Actor :)

  • James Callis is GOD!

  • Sounded like a West-Country accent to me. Cornish or Dorset.

  • @Shyhoulud its a yorkshire accent

  • I'm guessing he was drawing inspiration from how they talk in the Yorkshire Dales... Gruff, pastoral... Bob on.

Up the Northerners! ..A've it! :)

  • i want to learn how to speak like that

  • didn't he speak Aerelon again and mentioned going to the pub?

  • funny that, he speaks with a posh southern English accent - well looks like us and the yanks are human / cylons all things considered.

  • Truly loved this scene. Grew up in one of the deepest places of America's "Dirty South" and since I was ten I consciously decided to not have a Southern accent. Now more people assume I'm from Great Britain than Alabama.

  • @Zerrin Heh, you too? I've gone so long without a southern accent that I can't even convincingly fake the sound anymore. Sometimes I almost feel a little sad about it. Almost.

  • Northern English general dialect

  • @StasisClungeFlux more yorkshire than just general northern i think

  • I so feel Gaius in this scene having been born in a small Southern US town. I had to escape.

  • @anarimus try learning German it doesn't matter what part of the States you're from you sound werid

  • @nhahtrebor91 HA! True. I have a friend from Ireland and he's developed some bizarre Irish/Southern American accent.

  • James Callis is a great actor! Should have at least won one Emmy for his work on BSG

  • @93n371cfr34k He should've been Doctor Who also :P

  • 1 dislike, must be from Lancashire... I p!ssed my self laughing at this scene,I live 20 miles from where that accent comes from, spot on job Mr Callis. BTW,his fathers "accent" was just the usual Dick van Dyke bit of oirish, bit of cornish bit of canadian bit of frakkin albanian :)

  • I want gaius baltar speech videos and i want them now

  • core of the series

  • i was thinking" i want to remember what his aerelon accent sounds like" and the second i type in gaius baltar the scene i wanted pops up for me, how wonderful!

  • Aerelon is forever condemed to be the food basket of the colonies. Gaius Baltar.

  • gaius frakking baltar is frakking excellent

  • James Callis, the man is soooo great, yes, this scene is i tremendous one. Goosebumbs all over my body. I have the bluray dvd box, its the best thing the human race has ever made. The new battlestar galactica,.... Thanks for the upload, i needed this scene for a moment , not at home, great vid good sound and quality,, thaaaaaaaaaaaanks

  • Brilliant acting. I love this scene.

  • That's the difference between Received Pronunciation (ie. The Queen's English) and a Yorkshire accent. One's definitely considered more posh and civilized.

  • A very moving scene. Generations of people have done just that and have often been condemned for it.

  • Maximus! Maximus! Maximus!

  • I started out hating Baltar (who wouldn't?), and he ended up being my favorite character at the end. I think we can all relate to him in some respects.

  • It would appear Baltar is from down t'pit. Tha knows.

  • I do preffer Aerelon accent to be honest :) Soundfs much more badass

  • @mormonmilitia You can't always be exact with accents - as long as he doesn't sound like an English (not British) northern accent, he won't be thought of as being from Aerelon.

  • So...what accent did Baltar acquire??? and why not a Caprican accent if he was so fond of Caprica? I don't recall any other characters with a British accent.

  • @mormonmilitia He acquired a Caprican accent. I can't think of any other Capricans whose accents sounded quite British, but it's irrelevant, there's no Britain in BSG. :P

  • @OJtheModerator Theres no America either

  • @TheLahness That's... True, no one was talking about America, though.

  • @OJtheModerator Yea, but you said "There's no Britain in BSG" so I said "Theres no America either"

  • @mormonmilitia There were other British accents in BSG. l remember Jamie Bamber's real-life wife using her British accent that one time

  • @Ivansama94 I know. Baltar's fake Caprican accent still sounds more like a "real" Arelon accent than a "Caprican" accent. Jamie Bamber is British, and he pulls off an American accent perfectly. No matter. James Callis's performance was still brilliant.

  • @mormonmilitia Indeed it was. and l think that accent kind of makes him stand out a little which he likes.

Jamie Bamber is awesome. British people posing as Americans are so epic. They're taking over you know.

  • @Ivansama94 Ever watch True Blood? Stephen Moyer (Vampire Bill) is British, Ryan Kwanten (Jason Stackhouse) is Australian, Anna Paquin (Sookie) is from NZ, and yet they all pull off great Southern accents.

Likewise, Idris Elba, who plays Stringer Bell in The Wire, is British but pulls off a thuggish Baltimore accent perfectly.

Elba is like Jamie Bamber...I had no fucking clue either of those guys were British until seeing interviews. That's great talent.

  • @GozerTheGozerian Hugh Laurie! We can't forget him. l didn't know he was british for quite a while too.

  • @GozerTheGozerian Anna Paquin had a lot of experience with Southern accents playing Rogue in the X-Men movies.

  • @roguelead72 True. I only saw the first two X-Men movies and I don't remember her in them, but Anna Paquin is amazing in True Blood. She's perfect as Sookie.

As for the "Caprica accent," it's confusing because other Capricans and the cast in the spin-off all speak with American accents. BSG mentions the Adamas are from Caprica, but Caprica the show explains that they got there by way of Tauron.

Either way, Gaius Baltar is absolutely epic.

  • @Ivansama94 Baltar's father was in the series, and he did a Norfolk accent (a Rhotic accent similar to Cornish, one of the contributing accents to modern American accents). The two should have matched really.

  • @NoFaithNoPain Actually if Baltars Father did do a an accent similar to cornish then it would be safe to assume Baltar would have had the same accent if he had not of changed it. According to James Callis his accent was based on a Northern Yorkshire accent not cornish. So it's actually a yorkshire accent.

  • @shaunberry1982 It sounds like you make my point for me. Callis's accent is pretty much North Yorkshire, his Father did a Norfolk accent - yet both were supposed to be his Childhood accents? The RP that Baltair speaks is indeed a changed accent, which is the whole point of RP, to disguise where you come from.

  • Sounds like a Yorkshire accent....

  • Love Gaius, especially when hes interacting with his imaginery friend and everyone else is like wtf?

  • aerelon near leeds is it?

  • One of the best scenes in one of the best series!

  • Amazing scene, thanks =D

  • Damn James, I would have probably had a bottled water on the ready if I had to repeat the lines from the scripts many times over. That 'Aerilon' accent is definitely gotta burn the throat, and it's bad enough to do it more than one time.

  • Did you mirror the frame because it might be considered copyright?

  • thats a thick yorkshire accent

  • lol he sounds like he has a cold, that's not even an accent

  • @thirstbasket Yes it is. It's the accent of people from Yorkshire in England.

  • I so get this scene. I've been trying to forget where I come from as well.....

  • he sounds like charlie from lost

  • He sounds like Atrus from Myst.

  • Anyone who understands the struggles of the Irish would instantly understand this scene.

  • @rmeddy1

    it's not an irish accent

  • @doesnotcompute81 Of course it's not an Irish accent,it's an Aerelon accent.

Did you even read my comment?

  • @rmeddy1 yes, I did, but I fail to see how being ashamed of your accent and changing it for a more "cultured" accent has anything to do with "the struggles of the Irish", so I posted a comment as pointless as yours instead.

  • @doesnotcompute81 Well not only did you put a place a pointless comment but showed off your ignorance as well; my former professor who was Irish had to change his accent to assimilate to survive in London.

The scene illustrated , the strong caste-like nature of the colonies.

  • @rmeddy1 What a waste of time to do that.

  • @MrStig691 Do what?

  • @rmeddy1 my husband who is irish had to live in london for 10 years and he didn't have to change his accent, he got a lot of shit but he's still alive today

  • @wolfpaw05 Was he in high society?Maybe his pressure to assimilate wasn't as high

  • Sounds like a Manchester/Salford accent, like Christopher Eccleston's Doctor Who.

  • Now that was damn good acting and it shows what a genius Baltar was to be able to go from being some farm boy from the Breadbasket of the 12 colonies to becoming a leading Cybernetics genius who was rich, successful, friends with the President and got more ass than a toilet seat.

  • For odd reasons, I was anticipating for Baltar in his native tongue to yell out

    "I'm Batman"

  • sounds like a normal accent to me

  • Oscar for this speech!

  • @mkPraetorian You mean an Emmy.

  • Ever since I first saw this scene I've always regarded it as one of the greatest in the whole show. Love it, love it, love it!

  • @digitalfolio Why?

  • @digitalfolio

The best scene is when John Cavil shoots himself in the face. I've never laughed so hard at a suicide.

  • @NoRegretsForOurYouth ROFL!! Me too! I laughed so hard and so long, my girlfriend thought I was evil and I enjoyed people blowing their own faces!

  • @NoRegretsForOurYouth

    FRAK! *shoots*

  • @NoRegretsForOurYouth Hahahaha I laughed so much too... It was so randomly hilarious.

  • Thank you for uploading this video. I've been looking for this scene for a while.

  • @MinorThingsInLife I kinda love this scene... I hope it'll not be removed...

  • @Frozareus dear friend, SOPA & PIPA will pwn this video and it will be removed. am so sorry.

  • lol Chief felt stupid.

  • So hes just white trash from aerelon
