Not quite, the "K" means "Kurs" or "small". The CLK is a smaller less expensive CL, which is the big luxury sports coupe.

Any proffesionally prepared race car will destroy a road car with double the hard figures (ie hp, torque, 0 - 60, slalom, etc.)

Yes, but thats not the first time that has happened on a track like that, and they changed the TRACK after that accident, instead of asking mercedes to change their CAR

It's hard to ask someone to change when they've already quit.

After the Porsche flip at PLM the previous year, it was painfully apparent that GT1 cars were generating too much lift in the front end creating dynamic instability. MB should have changed the front end aero before the first flip, instead of whinning after the third.

The engine was based on a racing engine. The car is a purposely designed piece.

Porsche designed the V10 for F1 in the late 90's. The project stranded however. Next they decided to enter this engine in a newly designed car at Le Mans in '98 or '99. This car was actually built and tested but is not the GT.

Volkswagen wanted to enter Le Mans too. So they bargained that Porsche withdrew the Le Mans car in trade of the designs for a SUV.(Touareg/Cayenne) Porsche sadly agreed and withdrew.

In '99 had Porsche een LMP gebouwd om Le Mans te winnen. Maar VW/Audi had ook net de R8R/C geïntroduceerd. VW/Audi wou niet tegen Porsche rijden omdat ze eigenlijk hetzelfde bedrijf zijn. Om Porsche over te halen om niet naar Le Mans te gaan heeft VWÁudi het ontwerp van de Touareg gratis aan Porsche gegeven.
