Roger Waters, who envisioned the concept to this song, detailed the first part of it a war going on and the last part of it "the mourning for the dead". And David Gilmour must have taken good direction on that part, because the slide guitar and vocal part are extraordinarily mournful, yet strangely inspiring and uplifting. That is what is so special about this piece of music - whatever emotion you are experiencing, it amplifies that feeling. Sorrow and joy at the same time.

I've often dubbed this song the dying song. Roger waters, on wiki talking about the meaning of this song tells of how the final part is "the mourning for the dead". This show was often the final number, and the end of "saucerful has a climatic, forboding meloncholy vibe. The emotion embodied in the final vocal part lends itself to meloncholy and uplifting emotions in our lives. It's a beautiful passage that taps into something deep within the human condition, couretsy of david gilmour.

just a chord sequence but the power in those chords is just unbelievable no other band can string 6 chords together and create one of the most beautiful emotional segments of music imaginable, Rick Wright was a true genious and his legacy will live on in pieces like celestial voices and echoes where his organ playing shines through, it's a shame that he isn't as highly respected because of his less flashy playing style but every keyboardist has the highest respect for him because he was amazing
