Sure you can switch it of. But I think what you´re are talking about is an irish uillean pipe. with those you sometimes put the chanter on your knee, to produce seminotes and they are often played without the drones

could you play this one without the drone as well.. i think iive seen that once with some kind of bagpipe.. though the put it on the laps.. and played it without a drone to it.. maybe thats a different version though..
