  • HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO GET THREE PAGES FROM THAT?!?

  • @thekatie93: We might be in the same English class.

  • I have to right a 2-3 page paper on this dumb video. gahhh...video, why do you have to be so stupid?!

  • amazing. incredible, astonishing!

Could have used more sausages, though...

  • this is perf

  • Two men have a disagreement over that guinea pig which blows up out of control into mortal combat with giant sledgehammers. There are repeated images of mouths being pierced or broken. Teeth, being a symbol of power, these repeated images of oral destruction keep reiterating a metaphor of man trying to physically destroy the power of his fellow man. They both kill each other in the end therefore man's ultimate desire for power is shown to be his own undoing. I could be entirely wrong.

  • GENIUS

  • I like it, but it's frightening.

  • Greeet! Lovs the little piggy. Work of art. Me family the best. Atsawaytodoit!

  • O.O WOOOOOOOOO ese Corto de Svankmajer No lo había visto...

  • awesome !! thanks for posting !

  • so everyone who likes this is on which hallucinogens?

  • Don't be stupid, everyone and everynation has its ups and downs, we are not God, nor island. It means we are not unique or alone in the world!

  • Yeah, american's clever... who needs China to say: we are not bankrupting! Are you employed? Cause I know that USA is the most inequality "developed" country in the whole world hehehehe Have the power of war, but can't use it wisely. Poorcitizens... Watch out, heart attack fat nation!

  • me encanta el juego de las miradas que maneja aqui svankmanjer.

  • ..........................my cat is scared

  • fucking dumb, this is why america is better than these moroons. We dont waste our time on this shit.

  • @85rch america created hanna montana, remember that......

  • You must be one of those stupid 30 year old jersey shore fans who live at mommys basement and have a non deserved high self steem,if you cant apreciate art go back to play call of duty we dont really care

  • @85rch The F in fucking should be a capital, the first A ion America should also be and what's a moroon?

  • @85rch apparently you did...

  • When guinea pig ownership goes horribly, horribly wrong.

  • I think it has something to do with Chaos vs. Order

  • This was the creepiest video I have ever seen in my entire life. I think that I will now have nightmares.

  • The monkeys were creepy and ugly

  • its adorable when punch carries the guinea pig to the bowl

  • its adorable when punch carries the guinea pig to the bowl

  • totally brilliant !!

  • This is positively terrifying.

  • Those monkeys are going to make me have nightmares....

  • @tom1993712 Because of this entire video

  • You know whats funny? I think id murder someone to own one of these puppets

  • Nice guinea pig!!!I believe Punch shows a few psychopathic tendencies! Shades of my last evil roomate....

  • this guy is the god of stopmotion

  • this is scary as fuck!

  • Who's going to care of the guinea pig now? Everything in that world is words, diagrams and old things. The guinea pig was alive...At first I didn't like this, because of all the flashing images, but when the story came about, I really liked it.

  • That animated guinea pig right at the end sure looked realistic, I hope the real stunt guinea pig used in the beginning didn't meet an untimely end for artistic expression through taxidermy

  • this like this.. are what make it so i cant sleep... i love it

  • This is the way to put Disney out of business pretty damn fast. Great idea to use hamsters, cats, for example, would never behave for you, I tried. Whenever you do animations like this, things get violent pretty fast. Note, the man got all this going without dropping much acid, as far as I can see, I can't stay that clean...

  • spooky did u see those monkeys... dont watch this on mushrooms thinking it'll be alright!!! it wont.

  • i love jan svankmajer!!!!!!

  • I plan on re-making 2:45 to 5:10 :)

  • @MrSeekerOfPeace Really?

  • I remember channel four showing this one Sunday morning when I was a kid. It weirded me out. Watching it again it's even weirder than I even remember it being.

  • Is that a little automaton playing in the beginning?

  • @HackneyEquine where you bougth them?

  • marvellous & superb intro (gordy brown at 1:04)!

  • that'll teach you

  • A profoundly prescient puppet parable.

  • High quality. IF YOU ARE UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF HALLUCINOGENS, DO NOT WATCH THIS FILM!!!

  • a too late advice u_u

  • @prophesize why presuppose the tripping capacity of the audience? maybe they can handle it

  • Fine then; if you are under the influence of hallucinogens, proceed at your own risk.

    Happy now, switch607?

  • o _ O

  • this and death of stalinism in bohemia-- svankmajer's best

  • Creepy bastard

  • Super horror

  • Zdeněk Liška-the best czech music composer, primarily movies music.

  • cute guinneapig!

  • As an artist, more as an illustrator/drawer, i'm completly jealous and envy his work.

I'd love to know where he exactly inspires from. But when people see my insanly crazy art they ask me and I respond 'I have no clue...I just do it.'

I love his shorts. AH! haha.

  • I bought the collected shorts of his works, totally worth it

  • i love these. all his videos are spectacular

  • Something about this is so eerie, I love it.

  • so fucking great! i love the details

  • that was amazing. true art.

  • So in fighting over the one true example of beauty (the adored guinea pig) man destroys himself and all things...

That's my artsy fartsy analysis of it anyway, though it uses such ambiguous and surreal elements you could interpret it many ways. Nonetheless, Svankmajer is a genius. His use of form, mechanical imagery (which pops up in his other works) and puppetry is masterful.

  • @skullketon No, no, you have it all wrong. The verisimilitude of man's folly is only buttressed by his essence to err. The beauty is in the ugliness and the light is, actually, in the dark. Who are we, but to ask not what our art can for us, by hitherto, not what our art do for us. Robert McNamara, in his prison manifesto, The Man Inside Me, previously discussed such proprieties &, by hithero, not what our art can do for us. "Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men?" - Bret Michaels.

  • @ConstantineRobbins By essence you mean proclivity, and using the word hitherto over and over again doesn't make you sound smart. Your reaction to this avante garde short film has no no coherence let alone any substance. Furthermore, if you intend on being pedantic and pretentious to prove your intelligence try choosing your words carefully. Remember what it's like to be a child and don't charade your vocabulary or understanding. Be honest when you react to art, not convoluted.

  • @skullketon The red cap man loved the guinea pig so much that he felt offended by the white cap man's offer.

  • are there any books worth buying on him....incredible

  • its just brilliant, ive watched it millions of times and it always gets better, theres so much emoition going on without one raised eyebrow....

  • how if he does that???? I LOVE HIS MIND

  • yeah... we all're wonder about the inside of svankmajer mind...

  • OMG!!!!

    mee too!

    but i was about 4

  • I know he used archimboldo as inspiration

  • the first time i seen this was back on Alive from off Center...ive been lookin ever since...awesome!!!

  • Who was the music by and what was it titled?

  • its someone svankmajer has benn working with for years- i dont think you can really find any of this music seperate from the films

  • Music made by Zdenek Liska. Great czech movie music composer.

  • see you in your nightmares

  • wtf???

  • One of my favourite Svankmajer short movies!

  • at 2:15... is that the same portrait used in Svankmajer's other film Jabberwocky?

  • Yes it is, also seen in the 'Brothers Quay' work titled 'Cabinet of Jan Svankmajer'.

    Valkyrie Ziege Mourne

  • That has gotta be the weirdest thing I've ever seen. Weird, yet awesome.

  • svankmajer's alice is brilliant.

  • buenisimo!!!!!!

  • my god i saw this when i was 4 and ive never benn the same,

now i am obssesed with all things puppet,

this film is a antithesis on materialisim and how it inevitably can destroy people,

    svankmajer outs dali hands down

  • And Thus spake zathusura...This is so much better the CGI,HANDS down,DAli...ELEPhant

  • @zathusura78910 I know I saw a lot of amazing stop-motion film as a kid, samurai fliks too. I think, creatively it was a great beginning. Poetic in a visual form!

  • tellme please who made the music

  • Zdenek Liska.

  • In response to the inquiry over the composer.

  • best short film ever made

  • That is one mellow guinea pig. o_O

  • That was bizarre. It was beautiful, and horrible, all at once. Honestly.....

I think I just got super-inspired...I can't quite explain it....

  • They weren't sexually assaulting it. They were checking the quality, like checking livestock. Now, if you really want to see bizarre sexual behavior in a Jan Svankmajer movie, I suggest "Conspirators of Pleasure".

  • The sexual assault on the Guinea Pig... was weird

  • amazing stuff, love t o know more about svankmajer

  • as i was a child, films of this kind, made me had nightmares, today, they are weird for me, but i can´t look away

  • really interesting!

  • It's punchish... so I can see why someone would retitle it after Mr. Punch... doesn't follow the right formula for Punch and Judy though.

    I love Jan.

  • This is a great film, thanks for encoding it! I've linked to it on my puppet video page:

    ithacan dot wordpress dot com

    "videos of puppets

    singing, laughing, dancing, crying"

  • Punch and Judy (or Coffin factory as it was originally know) is actually a story about greed, jealosy and the anger shown in business, its purpose is to show the legnths people go in order to get what they want. In this case the two characters end up killing eac other.

  • Like a wonderful,beautiful nightmare.

  • Extraordinary strange & unique.

  • Actually Punch and Judy is someone else's idea of a title. The title of this film translated into English is roughly The Coffin Factory. I think when they gave it an English title, they thought they'd be funny or confusing. Besides, this film is only confusing if you don't know how to think about what it is you're watching.

  • I suppose Mr. Svankmajer didn't know that Punch and Judy are supposed to make people laugh, not utterly confuse them.

  • In fact it all depends on the way one perceives the story ; have a look at Svankmajer's version of Alice in Wonderland, for example. It's also quite interesting.

  • lol, i love how you said "interesting"... anyways... svankajer is awesome, the creepiest stop motion animator there ever was. im so glad to see his work alive. all hail youtube.

  • @leightosis creepy? meh. i blame the parents.

  • Thanks for posting this; Jan Svankmajer's work is awsome.
