Hey everybody! I have released my new album 'Progenitor' which has electronic music inspired by great games such as the Castlevania series. You can check it out and download it for free on my youtube channel if you're interested!
I disagree with the notion that the NES version is worse. Yes, it is "technically" inferior, because its missing the sound chip, but that doesn't mean its better. The famicom version sounds too busy. Sometimes, less is more.
garudoh son you are awesome. been listening to all my fav games for the past two hours. good stuff. your a great person . hope good things happen your way mate :) be good :)
The giant freaking bat can be defeated just by using HOLY WATER!? DAMN! I thought the cross could kill it faster due to the boomerang effect it has. :|
Hey does anyone have a fusion powered Delorean time machine that I can use so I can go back to 1985 and relive the next 10 years of my life in what was arguably the greatest period in video game history???
@gullywoots: That's right; the Famicom version utilized the Konami VRC6 sound chip, which expanded the number of channels from 4 (2 square-wave, 1 triangle-wave, and 1 noise) to 7 (4 square-wave, 1 sawtooth, 1 triangle-wave, and 1 noise).
I suppose Ryu Hayabusa has to always keep running very fast and keep jumping from wall to wall, however, Velmont has to fight the same villian so many times.
You could also try to kneel for 3 years and half in a random spot waiting for a tornado to take you to the final boss with a random object equipped if you choose Simon
Isn't it amazing that this music and those graphics were generated by the 8 bit NES? The MM5 chip allowed for 4x the pixel resolution of previous nintendo games along with superb scrolling ability. By far the best Castlevania game ever released for the NES.
I would seriously buy a Famicom just to hear this games music in its original form... If only I was made of money. No, wait, if I was made of money I probably wouldn't want to be giving myself away to people. :S
That's even further from the real thing. It's like the difference between CDs and vinyl, nothing sounds better than a good 8-bit tune filtered through an RF Switch. :)
I used to be pretty big into home theaters and subwoofers when I was younger and I would play this game through the home theater. Man the songs Clockwork, Nightmare and the pirate ship song(cant remember the name) would shake the whole house! They are nothing but bass! My mom would get pissed lol!
Also the one at 6:27 (I believe it's the opening song?) is a beautifully composed song. It always gets me everytime I hear it. I wish they'd redo it. Thank goodness for OCremixes...
Even without the VRC6 chip, Castlevania 3's soundtrack still is one of the best in the NES library. Only a few companies could consistently produce such quality music compared to Konami, most notably Sunsoft and Capcom
But if they did use that drum channel like they did in the Japanese version, this would be my favorite NES soundtrack ever. Simon's Quest had a better drum sound in my opinion.
Actually they did use the DPCM in the US/EURO version but with a lower quality sample. I wonder why they couldn't put the same sample. Maybe the VRC6 provided some extra processing power which allowed it to manage the whole sound part of the game by itself...
YouTube is dumb like that sometimes. Whenever this happened to me, I checked a few hours later and it magically worked. Hopefully it's not a permanent thing.
Love this stuff! Better than 90% of all music released today!

Best NES soundtrack for me. That is, if you're playing the Famicom version. Too good. I prefer it to the American NES version.

I read the Famicom catridge had some kind of add-on chip that couldn't be implemented for the NES because of hardware limitations.

just curious, what does the block with the number "II" do?
g8282 2 years ago
Doubles your special weapon. Example, if you have the Axe, you can now throw 2 axes at a time, instead of 1. The III allows for 3 at a time.
darianw007 2 years ago
I always figured it was like helping you level up if it's anything like Bloodline and has a RP like platform.

I don't hate CV2 worth one bit. My ONLY gripe about CV2 is the translation from the Japanese version.

kibjohn 2 years ago
I don't think that's weird at all. CV2 is an excellent game and a unique entry into the series.
People don't realize how CV2's innovative concepts paved the way for SotN.

Both were extremely annoying!!!

I suppose Ryu Hayabusa has to always keep running very fast and keep jumping from wall to wall, however, Velmont has to fight the same villian so many times.

Personally, I find 3 to have the best gameplay but 1 and 2 to have better music.

I agree, III is my favorite on the NES, but II just had a supreme soundtrack. Stage 1 on this soundtrack is killer, though.

I wish man. I'd be king super-gamer of the universe, sans the power glove.
I find footage in all kinds of places, usually speed runs to keep things interesting to watch.
garudoh 2 years ago 6
the clips are speedruns but by real people and not 'tool' generated speed runs that are flawless and basicly impossible.
