Thanks for the video guys! I've been considering buying this specific shoulder mount rig as well from B&H, but I've been wondering if it would get too heavy without a counter balance on the back. Do you guys have any opinion on this? Do you think it would be difficult to add an effective counter balance given the shoulder wrapping design?
I heard what you said about the use of the Zoom H4nex for audio quality purposes. But how come its vertical and not pointing to the subject? I own a zoom and use it in the place of the shotgun mic and point it at the object/subject of which I am recording. Also it is set to 90 degrees on the mic position. Thanks
nowhere I guess.. I u won't build that by yourself it's never gonna be cheap I was looking for one for a while and I had to build one and later I buy an expensive one
Hi Guys, I'm a photographer, but want to work the video side of my 7D more. I recently bought a Zoom H1 to keep things light working my old Steadicam JR I got back in the 90s. Any recommendations for good results fast?
i wonder, the parts are mostly plastic and glass fiber. Does it feel really solid or just toy-like plastic?how's the mount which you put the camera on, and which parts of the cavision rigs are metal? thank you!
What do you guys think about this, Worth the upgrade...
December 1st, 2010
This morning, Canon announced an upgrade for the mode dial on the EOS 7D and EOS 5D Mark II. The mode dial on both cameras has a tendency to migrate away from where it’s been set. The dial upgrade locks the mode dial where the photographer sets it. The new dial was introduced with the EOS 60D and Canon will be happy to upgrade your EOS 7D or EOS 5D Mark II for $100 (price is for US customer only).
@alkheltv hey buddy. I recomend the 7d, but if you have the extra thousand $, get a 5d, but only for the full frame. The 7d, records in 24p, which is that beautiful film look. If your budget is short, try a T2i. Its cheaper, and records well, but again, i recommend the 7d. Its the mack for video!!
@richieramone1 Im sure that the 550d (or T2i) records the same as the 7d? I have one it is sure is amazing! When I bought it I was told that it was the same?
Hey buddy. Yes, they have the same sensor, and record at the same frame rates. Although, Im not sure if the 550D has the 60p mode. the differences are in the housings, processors, and firmwares. The 7d has 2 processors that can work much faster. Plus the 7 has 100 viewfinder view, and it has full hd hdmi output. A key factor is also its magnesium alloy casing, which keeps it from overheating as much as the 550d on a long production day. Still, the 550 is amazing. Congrats!
@richieramone1 Oh right I see what you mean, I thought you were talking just about the quality! The 550d does the 60fps in 720p. Interesting you say the magnesium body helps cooling, I haven't had any problems with overheating on the 550d though!
@richieramone1 the 7D,550D and 60D have exactly the same video mode. though the 60D now has manual audio controls, and the 550D have a new audio firmware which isn't from canon. So for a documentry a 7D will be a pain because you'd have to sync it all. and 24p is the standard framerate they use for cinema yes, but 24p doesn't make the look at all.
Why is the audio from the guy on the left in the right channel and vice versa? A little confusing... (And yes, I double checked that my headphones are on right! ;-))
@Mejaymz what the heck? why attack these people for using a dslr crossover? these cameras are incredible in terms of cost, quality of image and lens choices! any traditional ENG camera with all the same capabilites would cost way freaking more! the 20000 dollar HPX500 from panasonic cannot match the depth of field that is achievable from the 5DMKII! and the lenses for such a camera would be ridiculously expensive!
@acroduster I agree. The large image sensor of dslr cameras is great for low light footage. The interchangable lenses/filters are great to have. I am getting my dslr in the mail tomorrow but I do have a few camcorders that do 720p and 1080p but they suck. I cant wait to have quality video yaaaaaay.
Hey guys thanks so much for the video I watched it 5 times. I just had two questions. How is the eye piece, I know you mention the z-finder any idea how the cavision eye piece compares. And how do you find the weight of the rig, I noticed you don't have any counter weights, is that just because the camera is so light? Thanks for you help. Fergus

Love it! Where are you guys based out of? East coast? And yes please - without the digital audio recorder, how much all-in for the components for your customized rig? I really think what you've done will be the future, and may start squeezing out "regular" video shoots...
that is one mean looking rig! great work again! really digging your videos. ill mention you on mynext video regarding good photography websites and tubes.
Thanks for sharing guys. Got the Zoom H4 earlier model, it's pretty cool. I got a high metalic type noise that hard to get out. I think it just comes from the digital recording, not sure, but that's with the Stereo mics on the unit itself. Zacuto is pretty high price stuff. I plan on creating competing stuff soon. First will be a follow focus that will kick theirs in the water followed by stabilization gear. Lay terrrrrr

goRSSTV 2 years ago
We looked at it but we thought we would get better audio going right into the digital recorder.

@goRSSTV That and a BeachTek dosent have any phantom power, meaning any XLR mic (well ones without batterys) wont pick up :/
