Although Miyazaki's works are slow-paced and relying more on friendship-family views and of course, derivative stories, he gives more life and expression through his characters. Miyazaki's works are indeed more beautiful and meaningful. Steamboy was a great movie, but lacked some power that Miyazaki's movies gave. That's why Miyazaki's movies are so popular. Steamboy did not fare well.

Spirited away is only good if you like mythical creatures and bullshit and Ghost in the shell is ok, but since I am a mechanical man and I am studying steam power and thermal dynamics this movie is great for me, although most of the machines in Steamboy didint exist in 1866 or wouldent work at all, the idea is downright beautiful. And its too bad not everyone can see that.

I have the movie, "tekkonkinkreet." one of the animators from steamboy was working on that movie. In the interview, he leaned on his work station, looking all depressed, and said,"i threw away my youth. 10 years working on steamboy." I could not believe it. And he was the head animator. So he was on that shit all day and night. Animation is hard. We're talking about 14 work days. You're health always comes at risk. So i hope people can appreciate this movie just a little. Even if its bad
I love how the Japanese people see the future or fantasy. It's like a John Stienbeck novel. The future aint all sexy aliens and plasma guns. Fantasy can be just as f'd up. Think of fairy tales, witches eating children and shit like that.
I thought this film sounded allot better in Japanese then in english. Listening to the film in english was good too yet I thought that hearing it on Japanese sounded allot better. I must've seen this film more then a few times. It really has to be 1 of Otomo's best anime films around! :)

This is the most expensive anime film of all time.
it consumes about 20 million dollars (In animation only)
You notice that the framing of this movie was the same as disney (I mean the fps )
Yet bleach and naruto throws more than 30 million dollars on their film but iexpends a lot 4 promotion on japan and US
The story was also great.
Until now no other anime film can surpass the effort that has given for this film

Actually, the anime movie called Red Line surpassed Steam Boy in quality.
It has taken 4 years to complete and it is by far the best anime production ever.
Check it out ! It is really an exception to the crappy animes we get to today.

Mmm, this one was just okay for me.
The animation was amazing, but the story seemed a little all over the place and oddly anti-climatic. The characters were just downright boring.
I mean, by the end of the movie, I simply didn't give a crap about the main character. xD

This type of anime style is called steampunk. If you really liked this try out Last Exile its a 26 episode series that has a very similar feel to it.
