  • y do u put them on thier fronts?

  • 2 people(dislikers) has been crushed in the MSL

  • Thank you for all the vids. Will you be doing some from the week after christmas this year?

  • You're welcome, and I am going to try to get some of the after christmas cardoard carnage on here, but it will depend alot on the weather and stuff...

  • That sounds awsome. I totally understand the weather. Are you expecting snow over the next few days?

I will look forward to your Christmas aftermath and destruction vids. I hope you have a great christmas!

  • We got lucky here and avoided the snow thats been dumped on alot of the areas around us, but its bitter cold, today especially. I dont mind the cold at all but it really becomes painful when the wind blows hard like it often does here, and it was very windy this morning.

I aint complaining though, it still beats sliding around on ice!

  • We got almost a foot of snow here. It was enough to stop garbage service for the area. That was yesteday now it is -2 and all of the snow that melted on the roads and allies has formed a glaze of ice. I feel bad for the drivers when they have to work in those conditions.

  • Snow is fine, I dont mind that, but ice sucks for sure. It makes the day much more stressfull. We had a major ice storm here back in january 2005 and we were the only trash company out on the street that day, all the others took the day off. It was a nerve wracking experience, In 12 hours I only completed 3/4 of my route, normally it would take me 5 hours to do the whole thing. The next day I had to finish what was left and then do the route for that day.

  • I can only imagine how stressful that must have been. I have seen the trucks around here slide the tires on dry pavement, that had to be hell on the ice.

Our driver was telling me last winter that it took him almost 4 hours to do one ally because he kept getting stuck in the snow. He was saying that it wasnt the amount of snow but the type of tires they had on his truck.

  • Jeese man!! I saw what looked to be a 2 or 3 hundred dollar outdoor grill get crushed to ribbons!! The guy could have SOLD that.

I've actually made hundreds of dollars on ebay wandering around, finding good stuff that people leave out. Steamvacs, Outboards, luggage

Then a crapload of recyclables after the grill. *shakes head*

I'm glad they're making it the law now in a lot of places that the garbage truck CAN'T and WON'T take such things.

  • Dang man, you made me reailize how much trash is wasted. God bless you and keep up the awsome work. Its sweet to see crap compacted

  • What's the most intresting thing you found.? that you did'nt get why people throw it away.

  • you got a badass job

  • I've found some cool little random things in my time. I once found a sega dreamcast in the box, with some games, that worked fine. I gave it away to a friend.

  • Actually, when I watch your videos I'm in an another world. Hours just run, 3 hours feel like 15 minutes!

Eric, you are the man. the Idea of your videos are unique. I bet nobody else would do videos about driving the truck, destroying all the shit. Thanks for these

  • Thanks alot I appreciate that.

I figure if anything, at least I have an original idea here, and if at least a few people out there like it, I'll continue doing it.

  • Hey Eric, I wanted to ask you, can you get some more footage of you driving the truck, like the behind the head shots in 720 Best MSL ever, and the one where you wave to the lady and she comes out and tips you later. I love that shot. You make the best garbagemen movies, it makes me want to get a decent camera and start taping like you guys on the web, but I'm not that computer savy, and a work a bunch of hours that my free is limited.

  • Yeah, I can get some more shots like that no problem. I always figured that they were the least favorite of most people that watch these vids. The driving shots are much easier to get than the hopper shots. Glad you like the videos, thanks!

  • crushed like styrofoam!

  • That's a pretty interesting pay scheme, so if you go assist another driver, does that take away from his pay for that day, or does he get the same rate no matter if he picks it up or you do?

  • Well it depends on how many stops you take from the driver and how long it takes for him to get done, usually it can be worked out so that both drivers benefit.

  • hows the mack

  • I worked in a recycling place for a little while, rode on the back of the truck, ect.

Can't say it was fun, but I guess it needs to be done.

  • Hey guy, Been a while since I have had time to visit. But, this vid showed me your old truck is working harder than you that trip. LOL Hopefully the landfill only charges by the load and not the weight. Ha Ha. Still working hard. Good video. Brings back the old memories of my Dad.

  • Thanks for stopping by and commenting!

  • Do you like your job?

  • For the most part, yes. It has its crappy moments (what job doesnt?) but overall it suits me just fine.

  • Another 5* vid. Even though i do this everyday it still facinates me to watch yours and others trash vids. Like the nw views. Im searching for new ones myself

  • Eric, I didn't realize that you guys get paid by the stop!! Is there a union involved here?? Is there bidding involved ??? Then you coulld bid on a route with more stops to it. I'm assuming that with more stops that would mean more money. What would be a good route to have when you have more senority?? Mike

  • There is no union here, and for the longest time I wasnt sure if that was a good thing or not, but I've decided that it is indeed a good thing. Waste Connections is the only trash co. in town that still has the "incentive" system. I used to work for Waste Management (1999-2003) and they had a similar system but have since eliminated it, and alot of their drivers make half the money I do now. WC really seems to recognize that they can only keep the best drivers by paying them well so...

  • That's pretty damn good, you know that bigger isn't always better and that certainly applys here. Benefits are always a big issue, how are yours?? Probably better than mine!!!

  • Unions can be a tricky thing. If you're with a company that realizes the way to avoid Unions coming in is to make them unecessary through fair business practices then you're okay without one. If they try to keep the union out so they don't have to pay as well or provide benefits that's a problem. Sounds like you're with a good company.

  • You nailed that one perfectly. Its a tricky balance indeed. Some people swear by unions but I think its better if business can be fairly conducted without them, because a union is just another entity involved that will ultimately only be concerned with its own interests and will be open to corruption. Things are much simpler without a middle man.

It all depends on the situation though, I am not slamming union folks at all, but in many cases it simply is not needed and only complicates matters.

  • @WasteCnxsideloader are you getting a good pay

  • Good vid, thanks for sharing sir!

  • there is another person with the same footage only its 2 min long thats why i was asking

  • The grill and nothing but the grill !!! Good one, Eric!!!! Eric, how much pressure does that blade put out???

  • damn you got 2 accounts on here

  • Eh?

  • What a cool sound when that LE pulls up to a stop! Awesome vid Eric!! Wish I could watch this all day :D

  • Well, it WAS a barbecue...

  • Hey...light iron @ :50 LOL. nice vid bud

  • One word to describe this video....

    AWESOME!!!

Dr Pepper seems very popular in the USA, It seems to be in your videos quite a lot Eric. The BBQ at the begining of this video put one hell of a fight up.

  • I am really jealous of your truck. Are you liking the Mack alot better than the Peterbilt? I can't believe there isn't a trace of snow left there...lucky! Did you get alot this year?

  • I do like this Mack better than the Peterbilt, they are similar but the Mack has a little more power, and I like the new exhaust filter system- no more diesel smell. The only thing I dont like is that it rides a littele rougher than the Pete- the cab is considerably more bouncy.

We have had an easy winter this year, alot of warmer days and not much snow. The weather here can be unpredictable and brutal at times, so I've been enjoying it!

  • chadrick hamilton has the same video i was asking if thats your 2nd account

  • You should send me the video, or a link to it because whoever that is dont know them and they shouldnt have any of my video

  • dude scroll down on the left you will see chadrick hamilton he has this on his site just a shorter version

  • Oh, now I see- its one of those spammers that steals other peoples vids. Do me a favor and flag it- I just did.

  • That's nice not having to smell that all day. It does seem that in general, cab-overs ride worse. Mack LE's are the most popular around here and I wish I could drive one...but maybe I'd like my International better. Who knows. Glad to hear you had an easy winter. It's not done here yet...we are supposed to get 6-8 inches of snow tonight.

  • Internationals are'nt that bad, its just that the ones that we use are old and have the crappy bodies on them. I personally prefer cab over trucks, they seem to be easier to maneuver in tight situations, but it really is a matter of opinion on what you prefer.

I bet if you drove a Mack for awhile you would probably like it.

When it comes to trash trucks though, the real issue is with the packer body, and how it performs!

  • I think I would prefer cab over as well. I've driven our small MSL that has a Craine Carrier chassis and you are right, you can maneuver in tight spots alot better. I would love a Mack LE, but I don't think I will ever get one at IROW. The owner has a thing for Internationals. Another excellent point with the packer body...I wish everyone thought like that because then I probably wouldn't be driving an '08 chassis with a '00 body on it. Grr.

  • an entire grill?!?!??!?! simply awesome!!!

  • Great vid once again. I'd like to know if you have any vids of collection after Christmas. If you do have any, could you post them. I know you talked about that recycle bank prgram starting up. Have a lot of people signed up for it or are they still just throwing it all away.

  • I dont have much vid from christmas unfortunately but I have some pictures that I've been meaning to put in a vid and havent got around to it. Christmas was so hectic this year that I didnt get to film much.

The Recycle Bank program is kicking ass, for a place where very few people recycle, this program is converting alot of people.

My route had a patheticaly low number of recyclers, but that is starting to change- and its only the beginning!

  • In 6 minute a day in the life, it look like just 6 minute you have dump about 100 kilogram of garbage. Thats pretty lot of garbage.

  • at 5:10, who has the soy milk and pizza boxes? People have the weirdest things in their trash.

  • Even the Washington Apple box also there at 5:29.

  • What! TWO grills, that's weird.

  • Great job as usual! That grill leg just didn't want to go it, did it?

  • Sometimes things just dont want to die, they put up quite a fight haha

  • did 743 enjoy the bbq, it looked a little dry & chewy! it took her the 6 minutes to try to chew, swollow, then digest it, it must have been 2 of those low quality BBQ's,well at least she washed it down with some diet dr pepper& some beer!

  • you should have cracked those aluminum bodies off for scrap! i guess they didn't put them out with the recycling or didn't join the recycling program yet???

  • Awesome Eric!

  • Thanks!

  • does sh!t ever spill out the side when the can gets flipped?

  • Sometimes, it all depends on how the can is loaded and how you dump it. Usually if something spills its the operators error, as in you let the can down too fast before all the trash went into the hopper, but it can be the customers fault also when they overload the cans. I rarely spill anything, but when I do I clean it up.

  • Man that truck looks like a pain in the ass, you constantly have to run the blade.

  • Well, thats how it works. Its actually not a pain in the ass except in a few ways, like if you want to pack a mattress or large couch, but even then I can usually manage it with few problems. As far as just regular trash, this truck kicks ass. I'm assuming you mean it looks like a pain in the ass compared to a Rear Loader?

  • Thats exactly what I mean. When I was on trash thats all we used was RL's. I guess if you've been on that style truck for so long you're used to it. Everbody is different. Like the trash guys think recycle is a pain in the ass, and I think it's so much easier compared to trash.

  • You cant beat a RL with two or three guys on it, thats for sure, but for one man operation a SL is the way to go. I've done one man RL before and that sucks- you have to run to the back of the truck- it takes much more effort.

You are correct though, its all in what you are used to, its always awkward at first going from one style of truck to another.

  • Thats right I forgot that you are on the 1 man. Thats the way to go. I work in the city so the trash guys need RL's with full crews most of the time. It's crazy, I work in areas where most people are poor with no jobs but they seem to be able to produce so much trash. I don't know where they get all the shit they throw away.

  • They get it digging through the trash of the people who live in the nicer neighborhoods. Then they throw it out on your route.

  • I think your videos clearly bring their message to us, in a quite simple way, which is, how I think, great

  • we definitely pollute this planet : /

  • Hearing those squealing brakes all day would kill me!

  • cool video bud.from one truck driver to another.

  • Thank you sir!

  • Still enjoyin' the vids Eric! Must be hard dealing with 2 girls and a wife... 3 woman vs 1 man lol You're a brave guy :)

Was that a BBQ getting wasted near the start, pretty crackly and crunchy, the ore the better of course! Noticed some of the carts are emptier than before, recycling seems to have taken effect now... but still a few in there that make it seem some residents are still adapting to the new service. Keep up the great work!

  • Comment removed

  • Haha thats what I thought at first also. Its actually quite a joy dealing with a wife and two girls- they are the best!

The recycle program is certainly having an efffect, I have noticed that most of the people who have joined the program have ALOT less household trash. I am very hopefull that we can convert more people to this program, so far, so good!

  • Eric,

    YOU ROCK!

I really needed some more hopper action tonight and, you came through!....LOL

  • no room for you, Jello.

  • cool video man!!!

  • reuse, recycle, Donate!!

  • do they make leak proof large trash bags?

  • Comment removed

  • Really enjoy watching your videos! 5*

  • Thanks, glad you like them!

  • Another great video Eric! 5***** and favorites for sure! I might be getting a job this summer putting together carts, cleaning/repairing containers, etc. for a local hauler called Basin Disposal, Inc. (my Heil 7000 ASL vids) so I'm excited that I might be getting into the industry myself soon!

  • Thats awesome, you'd be smart to get in the industry early. Get your foot in the door, and when your old enough you can go for a driver position if thats what you want to do.

  • That's my plan! This summer all I can do is container maintenance type stuff like cleaning totes, painting dumpsters, etc. since I'm only 15, but starting next summer I can hang on the back of one of their RL's which I think would be really fun!

  • I used to be a swing driver years ago, which means I did whatever needed to be covered, and when it came to being on a RL I always prefered hanging on the back and doing the work instead of driving. Two man RL can be alot of fun, especially if you get along well with the other guy.

  • All the guys I've ever talked to (including the owner of the company I'm hoping to work for) all said that hanging on the back of an RL was their favorite thing they'd ever done in their careers as garbage men! I'm glad I'll be too young to drive the truck for 6 more years, cause I'd farther rather be out doing something than sitting in the cab all day!

  • LOl I agree, but I've been doing this long enough that sitting in the cab of an ASL is starting to sound pretty good to me. I could sit in there, listen to some audiobooks and music, eat some donuts, and go to the gym later.

I've always loved the physical labor and staying busy all day, but it takes a toll on your body eventually. I could jump in and out of the truck for another 15 years probably, but I think I want to get in an ASL or FL sometime before then, before I wreck my back and knees.

  • Hey Whats up with ya?

  • I usually mute the video and listen to musics while I watch

  • Good stuff, and 5 stars, as usual!! Thanks!

  • At 4:47, what is that tan cart used for?

  • That's for their new Recycle Bank program!

  • Check out my recyclebank video, it explains that

  • Nice action there including hauling bulky items in MSL. MSL advantage is great to include hauling bulky items in addition to regular trash.

  • I could watch these videos for hours. What that says about me I don't know.

  • I think alot of people that see these vids think its kind of weird that they are watching it, or that its even posted on youtube, but they find it interesting anyway.

Most people just throw out their garbage without a second thought as to the process involved in picking it up. I figured that since I still find that process fascinating even though I've been doing it for years, that others would enjoy seeing how it works as well.

    Nothing wrong with that!

  • well put brother, i worked for the city of Wacos' solid waste dept. for 6 months, and NEVER grew tired of watching different things be destroyed.

but then again i used a rear loader , and we did couches, and larger household items, so it NEVER got boring.

  • nice. those tan toters look nice 5 stars

  • This jobs sounds fun, because I like destruction. What is the hourly rate for what you do? I live in Wichita too so...yeah.

  • It varies- between $20-30 an hour usually, it all depends on my productivity.

Unfortunately there is a hiring freeze going on because of the economy. In order to avoid laying anyone off they just wont hire anyone to replace people who quit or get fired.

  • Really glad to hear that you are protected in this tough economy! I hear the overall amount of trash is actually dropping, since people aren't able to replace things as easily. Locally our news did a story on how the Orange County landfill is making significantly less than projected, due to the tonnage dropping.

  • that was one shitty looking grill!!!

  • Yeah, no wonder they threw them away, that was some poorly made crap.

  • I hate it when people don't tie there bags. It takes like 2 seconds!! AAHHH!! I get mad and leave the mess though... they can pick it up if they're gonna be stupid . grrrr

  • Yeah, it annoys me too. I clean up the loose trash unless its a repeat offender, and then I will only pick up the stuff that might blow into the street or the neighboors yard, and leave the rest. I return carts up to the house for old people, run up and get carts for people who forget, and clean up the messes left from animals that get in the trash- unless the customer is always a problem. Some people just dont learn until you dont let them take advantage of you.

  • I do the same. people don't think we remember what they do. HA! little do they know! I know where all the jerks are on my route lol

  • Lol yep- even though I may have 600 other customers that day, I will remember the one that filled up the container with rocks and had tree limbs sticking out in all directions, or the one that threw a bunch of pizza boxes on the ground even though the container was only half full, etc.

But on the flipside you always remeber the nice ones too, I have my fair share of people who do everything right, and tip me once in awhile when they have extra stuff, etc- they rock!

  • hell yeah it is ive seen them destroy a surf board not so good with tires need some ribs and chicken or burgers and some hot dogs with chili

  • i am so proud of witchita. i only saw one bag with hieniken cans, a few pieces of caedboard, and a mountain dew can

  • mmm bbq

  • packed the shit outta them grills and boxes whats next a bumper maybe a house or car or roof LOL another garbage truck LOL

  • Big garbage truck eats little garbage truck--that's a great idea for a video!

  • hows the recycle bank goin now?

  • woo first, nice vid
