  • Fat BABY I can't wait until mine gets that chubby. I hope he's better.

  • I love how chubby he is, you just want to give him a hug.

  • Thank you for filming this and spreading awareness. Now people know how to identify it.

  • Thanks for the post. I'm sorry you had to go through this with a child, but it was very helpful to me from an academic aspect. There is no substitue for actually hearing it on a real person. My kid had croup, but we caught it with the bark cough and treated before stridor developed so I never got to hear it. Thanks again!

  • how sad i hope hes ok now

  • It hurts just to hear that sound.

  • I am glad our video helped you. This video was actually used on an episode of the daytime show "The Doctors" to help people distinguish the "Stridor" sound. Connor has never had it since then and he is now 2.5 years old. I hope your son recovers from it OK and never gets it again, it can be a very scary thing. How old is your son?

  • Thank you for posting this video. Our son is going through croup right now and we were completely unsure what it would sound like. Our doctor explained the sound from stridor however having this video really helped us. I am glad to hear your son is doing well.

  • oh hes so lovely and chubby!!!

  • my daughter was placed in an induced coma and put on a ventilator for croup last sept, she is doing great now but its a sound you never forget!

  • Thanks everyone for the comments! Connor is doing fabulous now and has not had any Croup episodes since this incident. I am glad that this video has helped so many people.

  • I HAD CROUP WHEN I WAS A BABY

  • Thank you for posting this. Useful for learning! Hope you and your family are doing well.

  • he so chunky :D hope he's doing better :)

  • thanks for posting. i am a medical student and found it very helpful!

  • I don't know which one sounds scarier, this or the whooping cough.

  • That is the cutest baby!!! Thank you for posting this so we can see and hear what it sounds like. Much appreciated!!

  • poor baby he looks like he is suffering

  • how do they get croup ? he sounds so ill poor fella x x

  • @Missgemini2010 it's a virus, which also means antibiotics don't help. Oral steriods such as dexamethasone or prednisolone do help, or in worse cases, adrenaline nebulisers.

  • Omg....I have a 6 month old & to see this baby boy like that makes me so sad...I hope that everything turned out ok with him. God Bless you & ur beautiful son.

  • Aww he's so cuteeee (:

    Poor baby.

  • i got croup when i was like 3 months old i still get it frequently. as a matter of fact i have it right now

  • Thank you for sharing this, I'm doing my paeds rotation at the moment and just getting my head around croup and stridor. I hope Connor is alrite now :)

  • I don't think that is croup exactly...

    He's just wheezing.

  • @secretme127 that's not wheezing....it's called stridor

  • this is painful to watch :( poor baby!

  • This brings tears to my eyes. Poor baby!!!

    I hope he's doing better!

  • Bless his sweet little heart. This made me tear up. I hope he's doing much better now.

  • This is a video of the breathing that happens when babies have Croup. This video does not have the Seal Like barking cough, just shows what the breathing sounds like.

  • Eleo1 is right-this is inspiratory stridor which usually accompanies croup. The actual croup cough really does sound like a barking seal.

  • Thanks for your post. Yes I know this is inspiratory stridor which accompanies Croup. I didn't have any video of him coughing but I thought this would be beneficial to anyone wondering what breathing sounds like when they have Croup.

  • It was definitely helpful... I just thought it would be helpful to some people who seem to be confused about the whole "barking seal cough". I am having a hard time finding good audio or video of it, but now that my daughter's cough has gotten worse, I'm sure that's what she has. I'll post a video if I can catch her "barking" but so far she's doing pretty well today.

  • @jaclynjacobsen This is useful. Thanks from a medical student.

  • Thank you for posting this - I hope your little guy got better quickly and it was very helpful to hear the sound of a croup cough.

  • bless his little heart. i hope he had a quick recovery. he's so CUTE!

  • poor little love :(

  • I just came down with this not long ago and I'm an adult of 35. Also have the same barking cough and when trying to inhale, I gasp for air because my trachea is blocked with mucus and does somewhat sound like a barking seal. It's quite frightening when I try to inhale and cannot because I'm afraid I may lose consciousness and there will be nobody around if and when it happens.

  • That sound is actually called an inspiratory stridor that is also characteristic of croup. It's causes by the inflammation that he has in his airways, plus a buildup of mucus from the infection. The barking cough is heard when he actually starts coughing (which he doesn't do in this video) because he basically will start to choke on the mucus that is blocking his airway. It actually sounds exactly like a seal barking (unfortunately) Hope this helps!!

  • Thanks for the upload. It clears the concept for me... don't understand quiet well what barking cough mean...I hope your baby feels better.

  • Yes, thank you as well. Not what I had in mind when text books described seal like barking.

  • Thanks for this, first proper croup i've heard, so much better than what the textbooks describe!
