  • I watched this freshman year in high school for health...

  • this is a movie? i thought it was only a book.

  • AND IT STARTS WITH JOGGING!

    *Shocker*

  • I just did an upload of this whole movie in 7 parts. The quality is still not that great, because of the age of the film, but I do have most of the sound and the part that had to be edited out (all of part 2 in this series) is captioned s you can tell what's going on (and is only 4 minutes long in mine, instead of the whole clip).

  • And sorry this links to part 7 instead of 1. I linked parts 1 & 2 to the video with the sound messed up and it won't let me put it here, too.

  • i wish the quality were better

  • Juuuust a quick Helen Hunt.

  • Movies like this help me stay on track in keep my body in shape. Nothing but triggers

  • these movies always start with a girl running

  • these movies always start with a girl running

  • do those sit ups she does at the end actually work? :/

  • @xXxXInspireMeXxXx you have to do a decent amount. also sit ups don't make your stomach fat go away, it builds muscle, and flattens, you gotta do other shit too

  • I love this book.. so time to watch the movie

  • The book is much better than the movie.....

  • i find her parents control her anyone agree?

  • This book was so amazing, I've never read anything like it.

  • lol! I love the dad,I think he is hilarious. Reminds me of Red from 'That 70's show' :-)

  • im over weighthave been my whole life iv also been verbally mentally physically abused most of my life someone called me fat at school one day i threw away my luch but when i got home i hid in my room ate like a pig in my closet i had taken enough abuse at home to deal with the ppl at school

  • ppl need to realize obesity is an eating disorder it kills just as many ppl if not more ppl then anerexia and bulimia.. the only difference.. i wouldnt recomend continuing to read my coment if you ar anerexic or bulimic.. the difference seems to me that anerexia bulimia are caused buy change or tramatic event if life.. obesaty theyve lived with tragity if you ask me bulimics and anerexics seem kind of spoiled.....

  • @TheNightsxlight you do not know that I have had friends who are bulimic and have one who is in treatment for it now. They were never spoilt so stop generalising.

  • her parents are so weird...

  • @chocolatekiss608 Not so weird for the times in fresh out of the 70's working class America. Parents had grown up during the Depression and come of age during WWII and the Korean War. Many were a bit on the tough, stoic side. This movie was a first in showing how it could affect girls...and movies such as these can actually be motivators in a way for those who struggle with eating disorders.

  • i lost 33 lbs 6 years ago and made it down to 100 lbs and was a size 1 i starved a lot i know it wasn't as dramatic as other people who go down to the 80s or 90s but i did feel sick and looked horrible, i gained all of the weight back and am thinking of ways to lose it all again in a healthy way and maybe not 100 lbs but maybe 105 lbs

  • @sexya863254 first of all how old are you and how tall are you? im 17 and im 5' 5'' a healthy weight for me is 130 my best friend is 5' 2'' shes 105 shes underweight shes saposed to be around 110 115 she has adhd runs cross country and eats everything in sight lol jelous

  • helen hunt?

  • At 4:44 she seems so happy and excited. Why did that asshole have to ruin her moment? She was so confident in herself...

  • @TheSkatingGirlDream don't do it I went thru it for 2 years so hard to stop.. Just exercise that's what im doing now im so happy I stopped.. I only did it because an ex boyfriend would always call me fat.

  • tell me again how peope can honestly dislike this . . .

  • haha the whole burp part is exactly like my family! I always burp and my dad would get so pissed! haha

  • OMG I remember reading this book. I had no idea there was a movie on it. I will be watching this in parts, but starting tomorrow- I'm too tired & sleepy today.

  • I'm starving myself...i did so for 5 days, gave up, ate for 6 days, starved myself all this week, threw up my dinner today.....grr :( I dont wan to deal with this disorder.

  • @TheSkatingGirlDream hun dont do that to yourself; it isnt worth it. i cant stay stop since i have never experienced it but start finding things to do to make yourself happy.good luck

  • 2:02 ... doesnt she mean not feeling well ... :/

  • Is it just me, or is the music really creepy? D:

  • OMG!! Thank you so much for posting this movie. I haven't watched it in years :)

  • 240p...we meet again.

  • I wounder how many movies the composer that worked on the musicfor this movioe got after this one? anyone one would find it hardto eat in this girls situation

  • The girl that play's Gail, also played in the movie Jenifer the snake Goddess.By the way that is a good movie.

  • Does anyone else think her bedroom is really sad? It's so bare, there's nothing in it

  • oh look , it's a light saber! (like/dislike bar)

  • Hello, I'm the priest from The Exorcist, and I will take away your eating disorder! The power of Christ compels you!

  • what does she say at around 7:50?

  • @laurenheartscouture she says you were busy.

  • @laurenheartscouture She says "you were busy"

  • the starving is hard at first, but when the weight starts coming of it becomes very easy

  • @Bittersweet21222 Not a good idea to be motivational toward anorectics.

  • Jodie Foster???

  • ADD THE DESCRIPTIONS TO THESE MOVIES PLEASE.. I Have to keep googling the summaries

  • crazy ass trace from eyes of a stranger shes so hot

  • The best 'Little Girl' in the world?

Umm looks like a teenage girl to me.

    Fucking retards...

  • @ErikaCn100 But she is a little girl. She may be a junior in high school, but inside she's still a little girl. She doesn't get attention from her parents, she feels bad because of that, and she needs a lot of support. Just like a little girl.

I think it's one of the better titles out there.

  • I hate this family because in a way it reminds me of mine.

  • I love this song by Joni Mitchell...gorgeous harmonies.. so delicate... and the words... mezmerizing

  • ..not as beautiful has anything to do with it..Anorexia is very bad either way

  • man! Jennifer Jason Leigh was soooo gorgeous!! ...what a horrible disease Anoresix is..btw..that is the same mom and in "Nothing In Common"

  • I think Ally Sheedy is this movie too

  • the music is such a turn off

  • @pinkorangesoda What a stupid statement! This isn't a porn movie. Why do you have to be turned on while watching a rather well-done television movie about anorexia?

  • I just found a People Magazine article from October 1982 in which Jennifer Jason Leigh's sister said that their father, Vic Morrow, managed to see this film before his tragic death on the set of "Twilight Zone: The Movie", and that he was very proud of Jennifer's performance. I was wondering if he saw this movie and it's nice to know that he did. Sad that they didn't have the chance to reconcile, Jennifer was hoping to be close to her dad again and work with him.

  • @honeydewandpixiedust where did u get the BOOK thx now i want the book

  • @honeydewandpixiedust where di du get the BOOK thx now i want the book

  • Helen Hunt @ 4:00

  • Is that helen hunt wh wants to lose 5 big ones??

  • does anyone know what the movie is called where a little girl is bulimic and the movie starts with her eating lunch with her dad and a fat lady walks by and she pushes her plate away? Her mom was like a therapist and at one point in the movie she buys a ton of candy and when her friends ask her if she eats she tells them " it only makes sense if you put it in you can take it out " PLEASE I NEED TO FIND IT!! THANKS!!

  • @mileycyrusistheshiz You're thinking about "Sharing The Secret" with Alison Lohman. It's here on youtube.

  • @mileycyrusistheshiz Sharing the Secret is the name :) hope this helped!

  • @mileycyrusistheshiz Yea, I think I know the movie you're taking about...is it "Sharing the Secret"?(with Allison Lohman) :)

  • Is this place ottawa ??

  • hahahh do they?

  • great movie:=)

  • jodi foster?

  • I have the full She's Too Young lifetime movie on my channel. Hopefully You Tube won't take it down.

  • boy what a dysfunctional family

  • @softballchick20010 this is my first time watching it and I think it's about some anorexic chick or something?

  • ok this suprised me .... why aren't the cheerleders bitches like in all the other movies ??

  • I remember this from a long, long time ago. Thanks!!

  • The made us watch this in high school when it came out in 81...it gave me nightmares

  • When that girl starts singing and dancing, and that dude in the background does too...I busted out laughing. Oh gosh, this is cheesy :)

  • @JemixShani ancient? Lol

  • the sound is bad

  • the song in the beginning is scary

  • need an ana/mia buddy

  • @bbha84 i'm here :)

  • @bbha84

How about a full frontal lobatomy instead?

  • WTH,,,,they could have left me at the table and I would have sat right there and ate up all the food.....SO u mean THIS was the start of her feeling fat and wanting to loose weight and purge....... W Kids....

  • first part is borin

  • OMG!! Helen Hunt looks sooo young here!!!!!

anywho, the main girl kindda looks like Emma Watson!

  • how old is this movie ?

  • @JemixShanie I'd say 70's? not sure though

  • what's the song in the beginning called?

  • what's the song called?

  • Her trampy sister got all of their parents' attention. No wonder Casey developed an eating disorder.

  • This must be the poorest quality the world has even seen.

  • @norwaygiirl

lol ikrrr. at least the sond is okayy, although it suckss.

  • @norwaygiirl seriously

  • I have ana for two years :-(

  • The music is SO awesome!

  • @Joyness333

no if i were you i'd be upset that society has caught on to douchebags like you and that comment, if i were you i'd read a textbook so i didn't look like such a dumbass.

  • i would do anything t get better to my arents have been put through hell for 3 years back and fourth from impaitents :(

  • I wish they would make a modern ED movie, which isnt about trying to be skinny to be popular, more about wanting to be good at something and be special.

  • Hey! My name is Kessa! hope I don't end up like this chick...

  • and the purpose of gail is?..........

  • @AlexzondraCT , LOL, I guess the purpose of Gail is to be loud and obnoxious, to get all the attention to the point where Casey feels the need to starve herself. Casey is the "good kid" and therefore taken for granted by her parents, and pushed into the background. Hence her cry for help with the anorexia and in search of an impossible quest for perfection. Sad, but there you have it.

  • @Muirmaiden I mean you can't really blame Gail. She's a whiny attention hog because she got no attention as a kid. She wouldn't be so desperate for something she can have. Her mother is the overly permissive but always absent parent. Her father is an insensitive bastard. Whatever Casey's going through is due to an accumulation of circumstances, not just Gail's faults.

  • @xsardonyxmemoirsx , I agree, the parents are no prize. Gail seeks attention, even negative attention, because it's better than nothing. As a result, Casey was neglected and ignored.

  • Anyone ever see Strangers With Candy? They spoof this nicely.

  • why do all ed movies start with girls running?

  • @Heatherhb03 I guess all they do is run 24/7. O_O

  • @Heatherhb03 "The Karen Carpenter Story" doesn't. She runs in it later though.

  • @Heatherhb03 because that's what anorexics do, they exercise? kind of a dumb thing to ask.

  • @TheThinspirationlove Considering I got 76 likes I cant be the only one who wonders this. I know anorexics run. It just shows a lack of creativity in the writers and directors of this era. Just because bulimics throw up doesnt mean they start all the movies about it with people throwing up.

  • @Heatherhb03 lol

  • @Heatherhb03 what do you mean "ed movies"?

  • @TheEsperanza243 "Eating Disorders"

  • @Heatherhb03 I was just going to say that! I just watched two other ED movies that both start out with running!

  • @Heatherhb03 lmao, on part 1 of the movie "for the love of nancy", that was the top comment qeustion as well. i guess directors have no better way to start it off

  • the book is so much better!

  • It is NOT about body image. It;s about wanting to disappear; wanting to die,

  • starts with principle heroine running, just like in For the Love of Nancy

  • im reading the book for the 15th time within the past 3 monthsss. (:

    i love ittt. <3

    kessaaaa. (:

  • why do they all start off with someone running? Don't get me wrong here.

  • Thanks for uploading this movie!! I've been looking everywhere for it!!!!

  • Ummmm just a quick Helen Hunt at 4:02

  • Dear Gail,

    shut the fuck up...thank you

  • Dear Gail,

    Stfu...you always get the attention.

    sincearly, (sp?)

someone who thinks you are a brat.

  • OMG! I LOVE this movie so much - wanted a proper copy but sur youtube will do for now! thanks so much for posting it! seriously havent watched it since I had an ED when I was younger

  • Why the hell is the sister still living at home shes making it worse

  • d-didn't "For the Love of Nancy" start with a jogging scene as well? 0.0

  • @redododiculous did you know that tracey gold's (the actress in for the love of nancy) Eating disorder started because she watched this movie? its in a lot of her bio's..now girls are starting ed's because of "for the love of nancy"

  • Poor Casey is always left eating alone

  • Most realistic portryal of A.N we will probably ever see.

Believe it or not this movie actually helped me to get better.

  • @ciaobellakate The book this was based off of was written by a psycologist who specialized in eating disorders when they were just starting to become known I think.

  • Jeez... You're a freaking ballet dancer, jump around or something, JEEZ!

  • what's the name of the song from 0.22?

  • Would you know the exact air date of this film?

  • They made us watch this movie in highschool. Thanks for posting! Love JJL

  • omg that mother >:( the girl made cheerleading squad and the mom didnt even crack a smile! WTF *SLAP*

  • 29 people couldn't beet anorexia

  • @CiemiVerra That's a very apt analogy. Hopefully, it will help some of the sociopathic dummies on here understand what is mental illness.

  • Wow that IS a fail cheerleading routine. I covered my face after watching it....

  • it is one thing to have the thoughts coming back at you, to have the sickness always behind your back waiting for the occasion. It is another to have a desire to follow it, to feed it and to submit yourself to it. I had ED for many years when I was younger and it is a horrible thing, it destroys you in every possible way. But the problem is not only in the sickness attacking us, but in our reaction to it. Girls, my heart is wholly with you and I will be praying for you to the One who healed me.

  • some of these replys to this movies and others ive watched have been disgusting, i had been sick with anorexia and bulimia for 15yrs and nearly found my death bed. It started as a childhood thing which lead to being dangerousally thin and ill. Thing is eating disorders are selfish, but ur not just the illness. I can say that even after all the hospitalization and out patient therapy, i still suffer with the thoughts and thinking patterns of the eating disorder.Eds are serious not to be laughed @

  • dude these movies ALWAYS start with the person jogging...

  • @agee895 LMAO, I'd never thought of that but now I do, you're right. I usually skip the jogging parts!

  • @agee895 What other movie starts with jogging, besides "For the Love of Nancy"?

  • how many years is this movie it looks alot old

  • hw many oyears is his movie it looks alot old

  • @aqueouus Have you ever seen the series "Strangers with Candy"? Stephen Colbert records a new song to the tune in their episode about eating disorders. It's pretty great.

  • Yeah so do I, but I don't use the words Ana and Mia, which are used in the Pro-Ana community, Pro-Ana being people that glamorize eating disorders

  • im not sure why but this film really freaks me out..

its super old and the girl is kinda creepy aha

great story line though! and its a film i could watch over and over again

  • barbra dies lovely name

  • Jeez OCD much?

  • Comment removed

  • Michelle's cheer= massive fail

  • this song is hilarious

  • @hmlm18 Its like Joni Mitchell only shitty

  • @gogosfan ahaaa yeahh it is as well

  • any way to make the resolution a bit better? thanks for posting!!

  • it bugs me in these films showing them obsessing over models, i have an eating disorder n it has nothing to do with models n celebs

  • @041012vic It's because disordered eating is a part of our culture, that they cannot separate their problems with food from your actual medical condition.

  • i really enjoyed reading this book and i just found it's a movie YES! the book was awesome

  • jennifer jason leigh, helen hunt, & ally sheedy!

  • Gail is amazing, haha. "Yeah that about sums it up." My parents would have slapped me haha

  • @ belathequeen, no hun it is Helen Hunt, often mistaken for Jodie Foster

  • Is that Jodie Foster at 4:10?

  • I love this book!

  • I thought she was pretty good at the cheerleading lol

  • Isn't ironic how this movie starts out w/ her running and talking to the dad then For the love of Nancy does the same Nancy running and talking to her dad.

  • whats with the weird opening song?!?!? pretty awful! and all anarexic movies seem to start with people jogging!!!!

  • It drives me nuts how different this is from the book, the book and the movie are two completely different things, different story lines even all of the names are different

  • WARNING!! BEFORE YOU STAR KISSING GABBYJW'S ASS FOR POSTING THIS MOVIE NOTE THAT THERE IS NO PART 2.

  • what is this movie about?
