@paulineransome So did I, never bought the record, could have bought it ten times over! I have it now in my vinyl collection. Stones first song, they didn't like it much but it did get in the charts and led to much greater things, as we all know.....
If you don't dig this or the way The Stones do Chuck, what are you even doing here? They did it like irreverent white boys. And only invented modern rock a s result.
@TheBrianStones - Yes, Brian was good at most things and certainly was the soul of The Rolling Stones. Too bad the drugs got him like so many other fine musicians.
Sorry have to disagree with you re Brian's harp playing. Little Walter was as far ahead of Brian Jones (and anyone else) it was like driving a Formula 1 car compared to a golf cart!
This was the Stones' first single and it's a fairly tepid version of Chuck Berry's song. Chuck's original was better, but the Stones' covers of "Carol", 'You Can't Catch Me", and especially "Around and Around" are vastly superior to Chuck's.
Come on is the only Chuck's song they really nailed: original was very underproduced, could be related to the fact it was the last single he recorded before prison.
"You can't catch me" is my favourite classic RockNRoll song, stones version is too "unplugged" and the wooden percussion does not fit into modern heavily driven rhythm Chuck created.
brilliant..the birth of the stones..perfect timing at the start of the swinging sixties.. this was their first uk chart entry 25 july 1963 and it climbed right up to no 21!.. it took another year for them to have their first no 1 with "its all over now"...who could have imagined they would still be going strong 47 years later!!!! thanks for this ..i am disappointed so few people have clicked on "like"...maybe they dont know it
There first hit. then everything took off .The rest is history
