Can't believe I found this song on Youtube! I really liked this when it was out - nostalgia! Thanks for uploading it - I have added it to my faves! :)
I was not usually a fan of records at this time in 1974 but this was one of the exceptions.
These days you might think that it was an early attempt to convey a message about global warming.
If you can get the complete version, (the you tube version cuts out before the end!)increase the volume as it fades - it is mind blowing - I love the pounding of the same line accompanied by a fantastic vocals and guitar.
Hudson & Ford contributed some amazing songs for the STRAWBS, let alone great songs like this, and the Beautiful "Floating in the Wind". I found out recently that they were part of the 80's Vaudevillian retro band 'HIGH SOCIETY', who's 1981 album was given it's first CD release in 2009. The 7" was the fab "I NEVER GO OUT IN THE RAIN' !

Strange thing, memory. I haven't heard this since the 70s but I always remember it sounding much harder/heavier and not so folksy. In my head I've always had the same song but almost a different tune! Does another version exist or is it just in my head? Great to see this anyway.
On a compilation CD, I have John Ford performing "Carpet Crawlers" from "The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway". His version is surprisingly valid, but folkier than when Genesis does it.
I've heard of these guys, but I usually associated them with early albums of the Strawbs. There was one or two songs played by them on Philadelphia radio shows dedicated to those lesser-known 1960s and 1970s acts, but nothing followed up on it. Along with Dave Cousins, those men knew their stuff!
@YusakuJon3 I have never heard this song but i do have 3 of their albums. They were a lot like the Strawbs but a bit heavier at times.Great song writing and vocals .What happened to bands like this? These days you got to be pigeonholed. Another great band was April Wine, They came off like metal but were so much more! One of my favorite Hudson -Ford songs was "It would only take a little word" It was quite the rocker!
I recall April Wine's single from the early 1980s ("Just Between You And Me", IIRC). There were a couple of bands that were basically fly-by-nighters, one-hit wonders whose output was actually more substantial than would otherwise be suggested. It makes me wonder if they didn't go along with the rest of the herd and mold their style to fit what the suits and cliques were demanding that they do.
The Strawbs are still around, BTW. David Cousins recently did a spot on WXPN radio in my area.
Sorry bout that! This is quite rare and lucky to have. Least we got up some visuals to go with song. Will try to improve the quality if if can be done when we have time to spare.
No worries mate, ... It's good to see a video to this regardless of the quality ;-) I'm a collector of music videos and it just so happens I have after this one for years in decent quality but can't seem to get it ;-(
Ich habe diesen Song von Anfang an geliebt und niemals gedacht, dass ich 35 Jahre später hier bei YouTube einen TV-Auftritt von Hudson-Ford sehen könnte. Wunderbar!
Thanks very much! Yes, watching these long lost videos on youtube is amazing! Happy to know it gave you enjoyed!

imagine if you were in a building and the fire alarm goes off and plays this song on loop throughout the building. Now that would be one hell of a nightmare. Probably the only scenario in which i wouldn't want to hear this damn good song, but it would be sure as hell funny at the same time and would make you think, is this really happening?
really? i'm at work and there's a fire drill in progress. Working in the it dept. i have to stay in the office to supervise the systems. All the alarms are screaming and this song is the only thing that i have in mind right now.
It is actually available on CD on The Strawbs Halcyon Days (The Very Best Of The Strawbs) along with Pick Up The Pieces. A&M Records EAN: 0731454066228
' the most underated track of all time ' ... i know what do you mean... yes it diserve a better place in the charts... but at less this song was in the top 20.. i (& we) know songs (at less) as good who never get in the charts...
I can't understand why their 4 albums are not available in CD... there s a lot of more obscure bands with less popularity who are now available in CD...
i can't find the logic behind that...
I' m curious to see their evolution until their last '77 'daylight' LP
Thanks for this. I loved Hudson-Ford and bought all of their albums. Floating in the Wind is my favourite song of all time. Oh, if only their albums could be released on compact disc. Anyone know if they will be?
Hudson and Ford were previously the rhythm section of the Strawbs. The lead singer, John Ford, was singer on the hit single 'Part of the Union'. They left to form their own band shortly after that.
I remember you guys really well, really ahead of your time ! Pick up the pieces is right up there with "stuck in the middle", if anyone appreciates good music ! Glad you're here !
This takes me back to the golden age of music as far as i am concerned..Its band's like this that got me playing the music which has enhanced my life.. Ah, I remember Nostalgia..

I always thought the verses didn't go with the chorus. It needed a more upbeat rocky feel to the verse riff...

Burn baby burn - absolute classic track.
Reached only number 15 in 1974 - possibly the most underated track of all time.
I think its high time this track was re-released by Take That!
