I'm not one to know much at all about track driving, though it is very interesting, but while you were behind the pace car... Why were you doing the swerves back and forth? Were you warming up the tires or were you just bored?

Cleaning and warming the tires. Though it doesn't help all that much at those speeds... it still takes another half lap o so at full speed for the tires to really get up to temperature...

But I was having oil issues back then and could only get about 2 laps out of the car at full speed before my catch cans filled up, so I needed to get the tires as warm as possible as soon as possible.

A "normal SUV" would have flown off the track much sooner and faster for lack of handling, then smashed through the wall due to the heavier weight, then rolled down the hill due to the high center of gravity. The problem here was not "off road handling" it was "entering a corner too fast".

Do you believe anything with big tires has infinite traction on dirt because the laws of physics don't apply to them? I think I've passed you in my car while your "normal" SUV was stuffed in a snow bank.

With the speed disparity between the cars at these events, I can catch the slower cars in just a lap or two, so I need the tires to be at max grip as soon as my 1st hot lap starts because I usually only get one flying lap before my times are compromised by traffic.

This can't be SCCA racing, since the track isn't yet passed it's inspection. It's only legal for "time trials" or what used to be the old Solo I events. Must have been a NASA event.

It's not an SCCA race. It's an SCCA Time Trials (I didn't mention it in the comments for this video, but if you check out my other videos you'll see that they're all trials events).

We're hoping to have SCCA race certification for the track starting in '08.

The track is Reno-Fernley Raceway.

They've got a ton of configurations, but due to all the different roads merging at that one spot where the pace car wrecked, there seem to be no "good" turns there. They're all a bit scary, or simply not fun to drive.

The best part of the whole track is the hill climb... as long as you're in a car with horsepower.

The worst part is the lack of sightlines. With the hills and dips in a desert, there's nothing to use as a marker. Even the cones were hidden half the time. A small haybale stack a few metres off the inside of each corner would be a start.
