your a sad misguided soul, go study buddhism and find the path that trancends sorrow and death, after that you will again find jesus.... you say your logical but your silly ramblings make no sence and you have made no points, mabye practice zen too, empty your cup and quit listening to eveybody else... quit being a poser and admit that you know nothing.
@5thWatcher i cant believe how someone could "like" getting a negative reaction? i must apoligize for feeding it to you, but on the other hand why envoke such foolishness. the world is suffering enough as is, why confuse others with your "sarcasam". dont forget friend there is a little truth in everything we say. hope you find the path, god bless.
Believe it or not, theism nor atheism have anything to do with fact or knowledge.
AT ALL. Probably the reason many theists I've had the displeasure of knowing have NO knowledge of anything and why atheists confuse their disproving of religion for disproving of a deity.
Heck, what do I know about theism? I was kicked out of my church, because my dad beat the shit out of my mom and step-dad in front of me and the entire youth group ^.~
Lol an atheist that believes in god and jesus, uhu. Well I'm glad you picked the right side. I was raised as a christian but when I was 5 I told my to go to church by herself cuz I didn't like to hear the same fairytale over and over. Then i received a bitchslap from hell and everything went black. But I never went again ;D
The funny thing is, you really *are* an atheist in regard to the thousands of deities you dismiss without any serious consideration. Can you explain, using reason rather than ancient texts of obvious nonsense or ridiculous threats involving an obviously delusional afterlife concept, why I should not just as easily dismiss *your* deity?
5thWatcher, I have a feeling that if you were to get out there and see some of the world, like go and travel round Asia, experience other cultures and beliefs, I think your mind would be blown open, in a good and beautiful way. I suspect that Buddhism, and specifically it's practice of meditation would mean quite a bit to you. What happens in the brain when one meditates is fascinating, all faith and "beliefs" aside meditation is very intriguing to people living with awareness.
@5thWatcher You see or realize that preying and meditation or serving a similar purpose? Also do you not think that living life with heaven in mind is a desire? Taking into account the role of desire in the Buddhist (and Taoist) philosophy.
I ask because I am curious to how Christianity fits into peoples lives..rational people's lives. Not saying it can't because I have a friend who also has trouble with other Christians like you do. Most of the time he is quite rational.
@Indie9999 Entirely correct. Churches only exist for the sole purpose for those that wish to gather and share a common belief among those that share it. it is simply a gathering place. that is all. a Concept that the Catholics seemingly never got.
@Vidise I have always wondered about this, believers can go to the church/synagog/mosque and talk to the imam/priest/vicar/rabbi for free about things on their minds. If an atheist want an impartial non religious chat to work out problems they have then aside from talking to friends all I think of is a psychiatrist. I was thinking about setting up a table in my city center with a sign saying I'm offering just this, help and impartial advice from an atheistic point of view.
@Indie9999 and I see no problem with that. In fact, I think it is a fantastic idea, no matter the group, people that live here should enjoy one of the other aspects that define our country, and that is freedom to gather. if you think there is a substantial amount of atheists then go ahead, but if you know that there is the opposite there instead, then one will tend to (and quite honestly so) assume you would be doing it to cause a problem. (just to get in their face about it.)
@Vidise I live in England, not sure where you was thinking I live. Here in England there isn't many places where I would come across an aversion to what I was doing. Probably I'd have a problem if I did it in the Muslim area! I love England for it's multicultural aspects though!
Yes you are an atheist, yet you believe in a god? Much like how I am a man who loves men and I am totally straight. Videos like this show people how very little you understand about religion and you pretty much debunk yourself.
This isn't a very good video, i don't believe it.. Do i hear sarcasm? For you being a theist, you sure do not look very animted. You look very down, or is that just fear of the camera?
@Indie9999 Nope i do not equate anyone being anything.. I know one thing, every one is different.. Being theist or athiest has nothing to with happy, down and sedate... Either agnostic, athiest or theist... can do bad, harm, good, be happy, be down, and be sedate... No one is perfect and no one is the same, even within a a set of a "group"...
your going to use logic what logic do you have there is no logic in Christianity or any religion in that matter all of it is stupid sorry but its true
My beliefs are identical to yours. It's hard to find!! I too get frustrated when I hear Christians sounding so illogical. I often think, "no wonder atheist are calling this guy stupid, I am christian and I think he is stupid!"
Anyway, thanks for the post..it is really comforting to see someone who has the same views I do. Gonna subscribe!!
@Frab2001 Hey man, I'm an atheist and I'm glad I meet people like you, because I feel like us atheists get a bad rap for always calling religious people stupid! It's not that we call them stupid because of their beliefs as such, it's just some specific beliefs that ARE stupid, like creationism and the war on homosexuals, Westborough Baptist Church......and Kent Hovind. However I know there are intelligent believers because I know a few.
Saying you're an atheist and believe in god is a direct contradiction. That's like saying I'm dead, but also alive. However, I guess we do have zombies...
@intothevoid0208 That's it man! I'm an atheist which for me means I totally don't believe in what the bible says. I very much doubt their is a conscious mind behind the workings of the universe, I could be wrong. There might be more evolved beings, like with a lot more control and power of manipulation over the universe, but I believe that that would come from evolution, and self development through learning and logic, through understanding the universe through science. But right now, no god.
That guy that you say makes religion look bad is actually right (mostly). If you are truly logical then eventually you will be an atheist. You are in fact an atheist when it comes to Allah, Thor, Osiris, Krishna, etc. Right? You are in transition when it comes to the one god that you were brought up to believe in, but it sounds like you are already on your path to letting go of that fantasy, as well. You stopped going to church because you realize it is full of fools. Good luck on your journey.
Yes, you are right. People like that are the reason why many people don't go to church anymore. But realize that you remain a Christian because you believe that Jesus died for your sins. Don't let people like him ruin your Christianity and rationality bro :D
This video was good. I liked how it wasnt condescending or calling either side dumb for their beliefs.
Putting others down because they dont believe like you shows you lack self esteem.
In all Honesty I dont believe in Atheists in the sense they don't believe in God, yea they aren't religious, yeah they dont know if there's anything out there.
But deep down everyone knows there is a God.
Jesus did die for our sins you guys should read the Bible with an open mind and an open heart.
@Jamespot24 deep down people know there is no God. Christians are often filled with anxiety and doubt and they must cling to faith to feel better. Atheists don't do that and don't feel this way. Letting go of fairytale beliefs actually means the world makes sense for a change. Why is there no concept of a Christian god in Eastern religions if deep down everyone really believes in "Him?"
I don't think atheism is arrogant when it stands in opposition to the christian god, because the sole base for that god is the bible, and the bible is contradictory and shaky.
No, saying there can't be "a" god, that would be arrogant. That we don't know.
But to insist that eventually, of all the possible gods, jhwh is the exact right one and that out of all the religious scriptures the 1900 year old ones from the middle eastern areas will turn out to have been true all along - that's arrogant.
@masteroach According to what I've heard, the bible was compiled starting about 1920 years ago until about 1700 years ago by people who I suppose believed the messiah to have arrived, lived and died years before they were even born. Of course these scriptures were not writtern by their god, their god is a myth like all the others.
I don't see how your post relates to my earlier one. I didn't suppose that the god figure of these people wrote the bible, that would be stupid.
@ac1th The sole base for God in christianity is not based on the bible alone, It is also based on sacred tradition and personal growth and experience. All religions are trying to reach the same God, however they disagree on the NATURE of God. There is no material proof for God because God is essence. We cannot prove that a work of art has any essence but we know without a doubt its there.
If every Christian was like you, I'd have absolutely no problem with them. It seems like you can actually talk about something in a calm manner without exploding all over someone. It'd really be a lot better if more atheists shared that quality with you.
i am personally an athiest, but religion is like saying, OH I BELIEVE IN AN ALL POWERFUL BEING THAT I CANNOT PROVE EXISTS SO HE IS REAL BECAUSE U CANT PROVE HE DOESNT HAHA I AM SO SMART
i don't go to church cuz i hav better entertainment at home, so iin tune, i get a happier life. A happier life without worries of asking "what really exsists out there?".
Agnostic is probably the more appropriate term. You have moderately strong belief in many principles of organized religion but do not appear to have blind faith in all of it's doctrine. If you honestly want to understand and find justification for your own beliefs it's important to "vet" those believes. Watch a few videos from Christopher Hitchens and see where it leads. Admittedly you may find some of his comments offensive, but he does bring a great deal of knowledge and insight to the table.
Dude! I like ya, but I just don't fuckin get ya! ????? You're one of two Theists that I can take seriously on YT, You've got more likes than dislikes which annoys me because I'm sure that breaks a logical absolute somehow. You don't have glazed over eyes or prozac smile. wtf? If you're not at least deist by fourty I'm gonna fuckin' flag you as SPAM!! or worse! fucker
@5thWatcher He breaks the mold because he is real. He was probably found, not raised. He was probably pulled through ridiculous amounts of shit my miraculous impossible circumstances. we do exist, Brother, but we are usually busy spreading the love than to sit around judging and being hypocritical. We got shit to do.
@5thWatcher You are an atheist with respect to all religions except for Christianity, of which there are thousands, So yes for the most part, you are an atheist.
@5thWatcher not really break the mold. there just isn't that many of the type of people like yourself. it is perfectly plausible to Value Logic as a strong virtue and still have a spiritual side. it just means that more than likely that you won't just follow blindly into something just because it has a "Jesus Stamp" on it. I firmly believe that if a god wanted a stupid flock, he wouldn't have given them free will and the ability to become more intelligent.
@MrLittletomdj Hahaha totally agree. I'm an atheist and I keep watching his videos because they adress the issues with inteligence. And his sarcasm... and i just love it. I remember his video about jesus historical evidence "Aristoteles can be santa claus in this scenario" so fucking funny.
But I will loose my mind if he doesn't become at least deist.
haha i'm kinda kidding, i'm starting to like his the torture device in his neck.
Hey that's funny I was also turned into an Atheist by this argument from a Christian, but it worked for me, as I realised that the Christian was right. Basically it was my ex who also said that the holy Spirit had told her to split up with me because I was a baby Christian, whereas I had thought God had brought us together.
@mikefromwa he is obviously trolling the fact that a man called him atheist for using his logic to prove god so quit making a fool of yourself and dont comment unless you understand what is going on
Marx, Lenin, Trotsky and Engels were NOT Atheists, they were practicing Satanists. Google it.
Then watch: "The Secret of OZ", "The President Who Told The Truth", "Juri Lina, in the Shadow of Hermes", "Aquarius, the Age of Evil", "The Obama Deception" and "Freedom to Fascism".
Read: "the Naked Capitalist", "Brotherhood of Darkness", and "The Deliberate Dumbing Down of America".
@anticlimatic21 INTJ. Good guess though. You shoulda known though by how I'm always talking about what I think sucks about things. INTPs have more passive opinions, usually.
I hated church becuz of ppl like that homie ...it still gives me a dispostion about goin ..but i didnt find the Lord in the church .. i found at the low point in life ..people like that i ain't got time for ...God = Unconditional Love
Lol Christian dude even other Christians dislike you hahaha. I'm sorry really I am. Listen don't disregard this; I believe in God but I'm not a Christian. I actually feel bad for you because most churches basically teach you to NOT teach anything, you have a brain and that makes you unusual. I know you don't need my approval but I approve of your decision to think and stay Christian all the same. Good luck my friend.
My problem is that omniscience and free will are contradictions. God knew when I was gonna be born and when I will die. He knows every single detail of every moment whether its happened or not. So if God knows that I'm going to die tomorrow can I make a single choice now that can change that? If he knows I'm going to eat a sandwich in 3 hrs can I make a choice to change that? Omniscience goes hand in hand with fate which means no choice.
@silviasr20det If God knows that in 10 yrs I'm gonna murder a family there isn't a choice I can make that can make God wrong (that whole infallible thing). If he does nothing to stop that does that make him benevolent? If I can't choose is it just to send me to an eternity in hell? If God is the creator of the universe and he knows everything, that means he created everything from the beginning until eternity. That doesn't leave any room for choice.
I know about those people, who apparently god will allow to drive you from his house and further from his love yet he doesn't smite them for being idiots. hence my reason for becoming atheist. i lost my silly childhood faith when i saw that the evils of the world extended to a place where god is supposed to be prevalent. from then on i picked up logic and reasoning. I wouldn't say i don't believe in some ??? but what i don't believe in: dinosaurs, the Bible, the Bible's God, smart Christians.
Just to clarify, you are more like an Agnostic or Diest. Atheist reject the supernatural or have no proof to believe in an invisible being. Atheist is the lack of a belief in a god or gods. You stated that you believe in a god and the jesus mess.
I think both athiests and those who subscribe to certain beliefs are equally blowing smoke. There is no solid way to prove or disprove God. There is too much ego for them to be thinking logically. If they were truly secure in themselves, they would say "I honestly don't know if there is a God or not, but as long as I am here I will attempt to contribute to the human race." Simple as that. No trying to compensate for things we don't know...
@JuliaExtrapolates That IS what an atheist is. An atheist, by definition, is not someone who claims to KNOW there is no god. An atheist is simply someone who does not believe. I wish people would educate themselves on the actual meaning of the terminology before bashing it.
@123454321qcat Well, technically there are some atheists out there who -do- assert that there is no god, but I find them to be about on the same level of understanding as believers.
A proper atheist, in my mind, would be somebody who simply does not accept the claim of a god; not one who does assert a claim.
@TuahShinguru Yes, but that's like saying there are some atheists out there who are conservatives. It's certainly true, but it has nothing to do with the definition of atheism. Your idea of a "proper atheist" is exactly what an atheist is defined to be. Someone who does not accept the claim of god.
@123454321qcat Just a subtle semantic thing that I was worried someone might target... but re-reading I better understand the context, I suppose it was a tad unnecessary. Sorry; nevermind then. xP
@JuliaExtrapolates Name me an atheist that doesn't say that. Because I could shout off a list of atheists that actually have said exactly what you want them to say. But you don't believe in Zeus - is that egotistical of you as well? Saying don't know must always be followed by, "But here's the evidence available to us" - and that's where your beliefs run into problems if you subscribe to not only a belief in god, but the myths and superstitions that go along with all religions.
@EllyMcCormack Marx, Lenin, Trotsky and Engels were NOT Atheists, they were practicing Satanists. Google it.

@JuliaExtrapolates very true but people only refute god because the majority of people believe in god. if everyone started telling me there were invisible fairies that tickled their asshole i would refute it as well.
@earthfrenzy You cant disprove the Christian concept of God as their is no universally defined Christian concept of God other than, Jesus is the savior sent to humanity. If your thinking in terms of Evolution, the Theory of Evolution is 100% backed by the hierarchy of Catholic Church (largest Christian population), but disputed by between 3 - 7% of Scientists at Universities (mostly physicists due to 2nd law of thermodynamics). So to answer your question "what does that make us?" Answer: liars
@JuliaExtrapolates To go with your quote "I honestly don't know if there is a God or not, but as long as I am here I will attempt to contribute to the humans race". Atheist contribute as much as anyone else. In fact if you were to look at the numbers on average Atheists are more intelligent than god fearing people by IQ of course. Also here's some more trivia for you, Atheists also on average are more knowledgeable of Religion than their counterparts. Pretty sure it's not a lack of contribution.
@JuliaExtrapolates Well, there's no solid way to disprove *most* stuff that doesn't exist. Even things like saying 'There's a goat next to you', then pointing to an empty space can devolve into an argument where the goat exists *outside* of this dimension; or that he can only be seen if you believe he's there, etc
It's no huge stretch to go from 'god prolly don't exist' to 'dude - are you insane?!' It's not factually accurate to be 'sure', but it's not entirely sane to humour the idea either ;p
@JuliaExtrapolates except athiests generally don't try to disprove god. Some might, particularly the ones who believe a god does not exist, but atheism in general is used as a lack of belief in god, and is essentially a word that really doesn't need to exist in our world because there aren't words for non-politicians, non-conspiracy theorists, non-actors, or anything else.
What you described after your first 3 sentences pretty much is atheism "there's no proof so why follow?"
@JuliaExtrapolates No logical atheist says they are positive there is no god, i am an atheist and believe that ,sure, there could be a god, but im not just going to outright choose one of the thousands of gods that are believed on the earth and follow one of them. I am an Agnostic-Atheist because i know there could be a god, but im not actually going to believe in it just like my gf could have a cock growing on her leg that is invisible to humans, but i do not believe in it.
You can definitely see that you are on a journey to being more open minded than what you have been. Congratulations! :) I used to subscribe to Christianity, but I do not any longer. What I don't understand is why people always believe things to be black and white when it comes to being religious or "christian" versus athiest. I think if people TRULY follow logic, they understand that at all times it can be flawed and CHANGE when new evidence is provided..
I think what you are demonstrating is your freedom to state or believe what ever you wish. You have the right to say you're an atheist and still believe Jesus died for your sins.
I guess the question is; why do you believe Jesus died for your sins. How did you logically come to that conclusion.
YOU are NOT an athiest if you believe in god. And you are not logical if you think that a supernatural being exists with no evidence to back it up. You are still a blind and dumb christian
hey if you wanna believe there's a god and jesus died for your sins thats cool. but a person can still reject what they know to be wrong logically like homosexuality being evil or having lustful thinking is always a bad thing etc. but if your gonna go the route of cherry picking why not just decide for yourself without a book what you feel is good or bad ? do you really need a book? what exactly did jesus save you from? hell? god made hell, but he saved you from it because you believe in him?
WHO THE FUCK CARES ABOUT RELIGION OMG!!!! WHO CARES IF GOD IS REAL OR NOT HOLY SHIT! LIVE YOUR LIFE TO THE FULLEST AND STOP ARGUING ABOUT WHETER GOD IS REAL OR NOT. WHO CARES ABOUT THAT.
@yoyager6567 Bechose nails need to be hammerd down. These people are moderates bechose the ideas where critizised. without skeptics these people whuld be still banging rocks togheter. i am against all bullshit. christianity is no difrent.
Don't know if you read these man, but I just wanted to encourage you to keep with the church. There are many churches (or at least mine :) that respect critical thinking. God is revealed by the pursuit if truth, and your not alone looking for that. Hope you find a church body that will uplift you and encourage you as you continue to seek God.
@Peteyftw207 ever notice how these "martyrs" are generally sent to martyrdom by someone else? If some guy looked at me and said "We're going to strap this bomb to you & then put you on a subway to blow your ass to the great virgin-filled land of the sky," I would HAVE to ask the question, "Why don't YOU do it since it's YOUR idea?" Besides, how you gonna tepmt somebody with 77 virgins?
Now, If they promised 77 sluts....I might have to sign up for that. ;)
@f1471in3r Generally, terrorism is cause by differences of religion, and with some wars. I think people should either agree on one religion, or get rid of it. I think it's quite sad how people devote their entire adult lives to myths! (Popes, Priests, and most religious figures). See, my viewpoint on God is this: Humans many, many years ago thought of religion and heaven because they saw another person die, and not be able to function anymore. Not wanting this to happen to them, they started to
@f1471in3r (ran out of room, sorry) believe in a heaven, so that they would always be able to experience life. All this, because they were afraid of death. Then, over years, the belief grew and grew and developed in different ways, and now there are many religions. God is the biggest "you're so gullible" joke of all time.
For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities--his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God.- ROMANS verse 1:20
@lepazoga86 It is very common in science to let others do the critical thinking, and accept their answer, because their arguments seem reasonable, or logical. This kind of thinking worked in classical physics for hundreds of years, until someone like Einstein comes along and makes an assertion that seems completely counter-intuitive, yet he prove his theories. At one point in time "everything that couldn't be explained was Ether" if there was one absolute it was this "The Ether is real". LOL
@lepazoga86 And that 15% is growing. There was a trend in the 60's and 70's where scientist types became increasingly secular minded, but now that trend is receding and the number of theistic scientist are once again growing. This trend and reversal in said trend is even more pronounced in philosophy.
With that said, I've known a few theistic scientists, and each of them maintain their religious lives separately from their careers. Religion tends to hold sway over the pragmatic realm, whereas science governs their epistemology.
@lepazoga86 just because 85% of atheist are scientist doesn't mean that atheist are correct, this works with christians too. Just because there are more people to voice their opinion doesn't mean that opinion is correct.
Oh and i wouldn't trust statistics that much; I'v seen much different numbers than the one's your posting; some supporting atheist and some supporting theist.
@letmelookify I really wasn't picking any side. I just mentioned that because it's an interesting thought. It's all about asking the right questions and that is a good question to ask. I don't trust stats, but I think it's safe to say that there are more athiest scientists and there are theist scientists.
I got these numbers from the foremost astrophysicist, Neil deGrasee Tyson.
@lepazoga86 Because it's hard fr people to overcome their childhood indoctrination. Furthermore, logic alone won't do it, unless you use logic to confront your own belief. People can be logic in everything, yet, cannot when it comes to their religion. For instance, if you show a Christian a copy of the Koran, he can show you all the contradiction or nonsense in it, a Muslim would do the same to the Mormon holy book, and a Mormon would do the same to the Bible, yet, neither can do that with
Wait, Christians openly acknowledge that our position is smarter and more logical? WTF, if they think we have more reason, then why aren't they atheists, are they afraid of the dark?
@mrquinnie429 I dunno If I'd say that anymore. Moron atheist trolls are just as common as moron christian trolls. I can now even say that I've talked to plenty of smart atheists who are still able to compartmentalize their logic in such a fashion that they can hold issues of Christianity and/or religion to different standards of warped logic while maintaining a sound rational in other areas.
@5thWatcher Of course they are, it's the same with your religion. People will rationalize things when it interferes with their beliefs. But to be fair (and by that I mean biased) to my people, atheists cared enough about the truth that they believe in things that can be demonstrable (like evolution).
@5thWatcher The behavior you speak of (blind unquestioning theist faith) stems from control. Some time after the birth of Christianity, there was a period when only monks, preists & the wealthy could read. The hijacking of Christianity fallowed. The commoners along with the poor were told God tells you to question not. Reason being, they were asking questions the "authority" either didn't have the answer to or didn't want the answer disiminated. Sad it still lingers today. Subservient ignorance
@mrquinnie429 Disclaimer: I'm neither an athiest or nor am I a zealot. I hve faith in the fact that I'll wake up tomorrow, provided I don't die in my sleep. It's like placing a bet. How much faith do have in your horse winning. Atheists take what they see as the sure bet, because, seeing is believing....right? Some people claim to have seen miracles, so......not all Christians are idiots, nor Atheists, Muslims, Jews or the like..
@f1471in3r Um, I don't have faith, in the words of Benjamin Franklin "To see by faith is to shut the eye of reason". Faith is required when there is no evidence for a claim and not all Atheists say they know 100% God isn't real (at least the smart ones don't). I know not all Christians are stupid, you can't generalize a group because of a few zealots.
@f1471in3r "I have faith in the fact that ill wake up tomorrow and provide I dont die in my sleep" -_- so you compare the trust to a faith? you trust that you dont die in your sleep bechose you have connsistantly gotten up in a morning. that is not faith, its trust on a propability. if you where old, or seriusly sick it whuld be a difrent story. Trust is based on past experience. you on the other had belive in something that there is no verified experience, nither any knowledge. Not the same.
@f1471in3r Do you wanna know the consitancy with all supernatural claims? they have all be wrong. so if i can trust in anything, i shuld expect your god to be falce as well. so even if i go out and say that "god does not exist" its not really even having faith that god does not exist. its mere stament of consitancy. i dont however say that. i am open to possibility of fairies, demons, and rational gods. this however means that most religions including christianity, are out.

I am sorry, I have reviewed your application to join the atheists.
I was very pleased with your attitude up to the "I believe in God" "I believe Jesus died for my sins" part.
We here at the EAC (Evil Atheist Conspiracy (incorporated)) take a fairly tough line on these things.
So application rejected!
Please try again latter.

Indie9999 1 week ago
@Indie9999 I am aware of this stuff. I'm a relatively zen dude, but I much prefer Taoism to Buddhism.
5thWatcher 1 week ago
@5thWatcher You see or realize that preying and meditation or serving a similar purpose? Also do you not think that living life with heaven in mind is a desire? Taking into account the role of desire in the Buddhist (and Taoist) philosophy.
I ask because I am curious to how Christianity fits into peoples lives..rational people's lives. Not saying it can't because I have a friend who also has trouble with other Christians like you do. Most of the time he is quite rational.

You don't need to go to church. Even if you still believe, going to church is a whole other thing.
Indie9999 2 weeks ago
@Indie9999 Entirely correct. Churches only exist for the sole purpose for those that wish to gather and share a common belief among those that share it. it is simply a gathering place. that is all. a Concept that the Catholics seemingly never got.
Vidise 1 week ago
@Vidise I have always wondered about this, believers can go to the church/synagog/mosque and talk to the imam/priest/vicar/rabbi for free about things on their minds. If an atheist want an impartial non religious chat to work out problems they have then aside from talking to friends all I think of is a psychiatrist. I was thinking about setting up a table in my city center with a sign saying I'm offering just this, help and impartial advice from an atheistic point of view.
Indie9999 1 week ago
@Indie9999 and I see no problem with that. In fact, I think it is a fantastic idea, no matter the group, people that live here should enjoy one of the other aspects that define our country, and that is freedom to gather. if you think there is a substantial amount of atheists then go ahead, but if you know that there is the opposite there instead, then one will tend to (and quite honestly so) assume you would be doing it to cause a problem. (just to get in their face about it.)

Indie9999 1 week ago
That guy that you say makes religion look bad is actually right (mostly). If you are truly logical then eventually you will be an atheist. You are in fact an atheist when it comes to Allah, Thor, Osiris, Krishna, etc. Right? You are in transition when it comes to the one god that you were brought up to believe in, but it sounds like you are already on your path to letting go of that fantasy, as well. You stopped going to church because you realize it is full of fools. Good luck on your journey.

In all Honesty I dont believe in Atheists in the sense they don't believe in God, yea they aren't religious, yeah they dont know if there's anything out there.
But deep down everyone knows there is a God.
Jesus did die for our sins you guys should read the Bible with an open mind and an open heart.
Jamespot24 3 weeks ago

But to insist that eventually, of all the possible gods, jhwh is the exact right one and that out of all the religious scriptures the 1900 year old ones from the middle eastern areas will turn out to have been true all along - that's arrogant.
ac1th 4 weeks ago
@ac1th God did not right the bible "man" did and "man" told you what they wrote is absolute god never said that
masteroach 4 weeks ago
@masteroach According to what I've heard, the bible was compiled starting about 1920 years ago until about 1700 years ago by people who I suppose believed the messiah to have arrived, lived and died years before they were even born. Of course these scriptures were not writtern by their god, their god is a myth like all the others.
I don't see how your post relates to my earlier one. I didn't suppose that the god figure of these people wrote the bible, that would be stupid.
ac1th 4 weeks ago
@ac1th just felt like expressing my faith, you dont believe, go head
masteroach 4 weeks ago
@ac1th The sole base for God in christianity is not based on the bible alone, It is also based on sacred tradition and personal growth and experience. All religions are trying to reach the same God, however they disagree on the NATURE of God. There is no material proof for God because God is essence. We cannot prove that a work of art has any essence but we know without a doubt its there.

Omniscience goes hand in hand with fate which means no choice.
silviasr20det 2 months ago
@silviasr20det If God knows that in 10 yrs I'm gonna murder a family there isn't a choice I can make that can make God wrong (that whole infallible thing). If he does nothing to stop that does that make him benevolent? If I can't choose is it just to send me to an eternity in hell? If God is the creator of the universe and he knows everything, that means he created everything from the beginning until eternity. That doesn't leave any room for choice.

squintin6 2 months ago
Just to clarify, you are more like an Agnostic or Diest. Atheist reject the supernatural or have no proof to believe in an invisible being. Atheist is the lack of a belief in a god or gods. You stated that you believe in a god and the jesus mess.
csbarnett1975 2 months ago
I think both athiests and those who subscribe to certain beliefs are equally blowing smoke. There is no solid way to prove or disprove God. There is too much ego for them to be thinking logically. If they were truly secure in themselves, they would say "I honestly don't know if there is a God or not, but as long as I am here I will attempt to contribute to the human race." Simple as that. No trying to compensate for things we don't know...
JuliaExtrapolates 2 months ago 9
@JuliaExtrapolates That IS what an atheist is. An atheist, by definition, is not someone who claims to KNOW there is no god. An atheist is simply someone who does not believe. I wish people would educate themselves on the actual meaning of the terminology before bashing it.
123454321qcat 2 months ago
@123454321qcat Well, technically there are some atheists out there who -do- assert that there is no god, but I find them to be about on the same level of understanding as believers.
A proper atheist, in my mind, would be somebody who simply does not accept the claim of a god; not one who does assert a claim.
TuahShinguru 2 months ago
@TuahShinguru Yes, but that's like saying there are some atheists out there who are conservatives. It's certainly true, but it has nothing to do with the definition of atheism. Your idea of a "proper atheist" is exactly what an atheist is defined to be. Someone who does not accept the claim of god.
123454321qcat 2 months ago

@earthfrenzy You cant disprove the Christian concept of God as their is no universally defined Christian concept of God other than, Jesus is the savior sent to humanity. So to answer your question "what does that make us?" Answer: liars

True - agree 100% - but that's no reason not to be an atheist.
I cant believe in weird, fantastical, magical stuff without very good reason - its just not in my nature - so I am an atheist.
That's it - nothing to do with "proof" "certainty" or any of the other standard straw-man.
Cheers!
richo61 1 month ago
@JuliaExtrapolates Well, there's no solid way to disprove *most* stuff that doesn't exist. Even things like saying 'There's a goat next to you', then pointing to an empty space can devolve into an argument where the goat exists *outside* of this dimension; or that he can only be seen if you believe he's there, etc
It's no huge stretch to go from 'god prolly don't exist' to 'dude - are you insane?!' It's not factually accurate to be 'sure', but it's not entirely sane to humour the idea either ;p
jaieet 1 month ago
@JuliaExtrapolates except athiests generally don't try to disprove god. Some might, particularly the ones who believe a god does not exist, but atheism in general is used as a lack of belief in god, and is essentially a word that really doesn't need to exist in our world because there aren't words for non-politicians, non-conspiracy theorists, non-actors, or anything else.
What you described after your first 3 sentences pretty much is atheism "there's no proof so why follow?"

God is revealed by the pursuit if truth, and your not alone looking for that. Hope you find a church body that will uplift you and encourage you as you continue to seek God.

Science flies people to the moon, while religion flies people into buildings.

Not wanting this to happen to them, they started to
Peteyftw207 2 months ago
@f1471in3r (ran out of room, sorry) believe in a heaven, so that they would always be able to experience life. All this, because they were afraid of death. Then, over years, the belief grew and grew and developed in different ways, and now there are many religions. God is the biggest "you're so gullible" joke of all time.

For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities--his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God.- ROMANS verse 1:20

The one you quoted, hit the spot man. You cannot be a rational christian. It's like you put it, and atheist that believes in god. =)

85% of the scientists are athiest. The question you need to ask yourself is, Why are the other 15% thiests? That's the question....
lepazoga86 3 months ago 5
@lepazoga86 It is very common in science to let others do the critical thinking, and accept their answer, because their arguments seem reasonable, or logical. This kind of thinking worked in classical physics for hundreds of years, until someone like Einstein comes along and makes an assertion that seems completely counter-intuitive, yet he prove his theories. At one point in time "everything that couldn't be explained was Ether" if there was one absolute it was this "The Ether is real". LOL
Kromwell2005 3 months ago
@lepazoga86 And that 15% is growing. There was a trend in the 60's and 70's where scientist types became increasingly secular minded, but now that trend is receding and the number of theistic scientist are once again growing. This trend and reversal in said trend is even more pronounced in philosophy.
5thWatcher 3 months ago
@5thWatcher
With that said, I've known a few theistic scientists, and each of them maintain their religious lives separately from their careers. Religion tends to hold sway over the pragmatic realm, whereas science governs their epistemology.
LucCole88 3 months ago
@5thWatcher But you still believe it's a democratic thing? Like, when most scientists are Christians, it'll be safe to believe in a god? Christ.
ideologger 3 months ago
@5thWatcher There is no data that indicates this trend at all. In fact, the rate of non-religious scientists is at an all time high.
ianman6 3 months ago
@lepazoga86 just because 85% of atheist are scientist doesn't mean that atheist are correct, this works with christians too. Just because there are more people to voice their opinion doesn't mean that opinion is correct.
Oh and i wouldn't trust statistics that much; I'v seen much different numbers than the one's your posting; some supporting atheist and some supporting theist.
letmelookify 3 months ago
@letmelookify I really wasn't picking any side. I just mentioned that because it's an interesting thought. It's all about asking the right questions and that is a good question to ask. I don't trust stats, but I think it's safe to say that there are more athiest scientists and there are theist scientists.
I got these numbers from the foremost astrophysicist, Neil deGrasee Tyson.

@lepazoga86 because they are our proof that god does exist, you can believe in god if u havent felt the holy spirit.
shigura12 2 months ago
@lepazoga86 Because it's hard fr people to overcome their childhood indoctrination. Furthermore, logic alone won't do it, unless you use logic to confront your own belief. People can be logic in everything, yet, cannot when it comes to their religion. For instance, if you show a Christian a copy of the Koran, he can show you all the contradiction or nonsense in it, a Muslim would do the same to the Mormon holy book, and a Mormon would do the same to the Bible, yet, neither can do that with
petion2010 2 months ago
@lepazoga86 their own book. They can keep a objective about each other's book because of the lack of indoctrination.
petion2010 2 months ago
Wait, Christians openly acknowledge that our position is smarter and more logical? WTF, if they think we have more reason, then why aren't they atheists, are they afraid of the dark?
mrquinnie429 4 months ago
@mrquinnie429 I dunno If I'd say that anymore. Moron atheist trolls are just as common as moron christian trolls. I can now even say that I've talked to plenty of smart atheists who are still able to compartmentalize their logic in such a fashion that they can hold issues of Christianity and/or religion to different standards of warped logic while maintaining a sound rational in other areas.
5thWatcher 3 months ago
@5thWatcher Of course they are, it's the same with your religion. People will rationalize things when it interferes with their beliefs. But to be fair (and by that I mean biased) to my people, atheists cared enough about the truth that they believe in things that can be demonstrable (like evolution).
mrquinnie429 3 months ago 2

Where do you put your faith, red or black?
f1471in3r 3 months ago
@f1471in3r Um, I don't have faith, in the words of Benjamin Franklin "To see by faith is to shut the eye of reason". Faith is required when there is no evidence for a claim and not all Atheists say they know 100% God isn't real (at least the smart ones don't). I know not all Christians are stupid, you can't generalize a group because of a few zealots.

@mrquinnie429 Hense my disclaimer....
f1471in3r 3 months ago

@gethsoftware 1) "Do you wanna know the consitancy with all supernatural claims? they have all be wrong."
I have a degree in religion...& don't have the time to go into how many ways this statement is ignorant (500 words aint enough)
2)" i shuld expect your god to be falce as well"
This tells me you're not only retarded, but too lazy to read as well, 'cause as it says above, I'M NOT RELIGIOUS, ASSHOLE!
I gotta say, you just brought down the agv IQ of the room down a couple notches.

To believe that there is a heaven designed for humans is in direct contradiction with science.
