  • is this hemlet made of simple paper or some kind of special paper?

  • @cepomwa It's called cardstock, you can buy it most anywhere that sells paper.

  • @GreenMapleStudios thank you mate, and it prints on normal printers then?

  • i meant "fiberglass", sorry

  • Please answer: so you put resin inside and outside, then fibreglass inside (strips) and then puts another layer of resin over the fibreglass strips?

  • @nemseimsm yes, you put a first layer of resin so that the fiberglass to stick to, then you paint a layer of resin over it so it has no where to go.

  • as it is called the liquid you put?

  • @dangeremiliano what? Ok, you mix FIBERGLASS RESIN with LIQUID CATALYST, then you have 15 minutes before it begins to cure.

  • Quick question: What is the mixture of resin you use? I couldn't make that out in the video.

  • @SergantTinkers1 Fiberglass Resin, Elmer's brand

  • What were the songs used in this video?

  • @BlotofBlood Both of them are songs by the pillows. I think crazy sunshine and something else. too lazy to look it up. Don't get used to them. I'll need to take them out of the video before too long.

  • @GreenMapleStudios thank you :3

  • Oh and you guys are kinda fiberglassing with just gloves on isnt it itchy? Ive never fiberglassed, just rondo, so i wouldnt know. but from what ive heard it hurts like sh**.

  • @Mgvjr Its itchy yes, but not terribly unpleasant. The gloves are mostly to make sure the resin doesn't get on you, if it does it tends to have a mild burning sensation and when it begins to cure it pinches the skin. DOES NOT RECOMMEND.

  • i realize this video is from a while ago but which master chief pep file did you use?

  • @Mgvjr i get all of my halo files from the Halo pepakura wiki. I'd post a link but youtube doesn't like that. Just google search Halo Pepakura Wiki, and it should be the first thing that comes up. Tons of files there.

  • Hey What kinda of paper did you say that you used in the beginning i couldn't catch it and using reg paper seems to not work as well. Also note for some people dint try to use form fitting Styrofoam it doesnt work to well, and cost to much this is a better and way to do it.

  • @kattra6420 Cardstock, I'll try and post a video of how to construct the pepakura files before too long, but i need to track down some good/cheap video editing software first.

  • this vid answered a lot of question, thanks and keep up the good work mate.

  • @nickthenorseman Glad it helped ^_^

  • should i put fiberglass resin inside and the firberglass or how?

  • @yones888 that wasn't even a question. What?

  • thumbs up if gigafide brought you here

  • @1Meandfriend the hell is gigafide?

  • @GreenMapleStudios /watch?v=aThqI4LJAZE

  • Hey i was wondering is it dangerous to wear a fiberglass helmet i heard its toxic but idk if that meant only the curing stage or is the cured on dangerous too. Is it safe to wear a cured fiberglass pepakura helmt? id appreciate it thnx

  • @bowser1252 I haven't had any problems, and the fiberglass is a pretty standard operating procedure for this kind of thing.

  • @GreenMapleStudios

the fiberglass RESIN is toxic while in liquid foam, because it fumes (evaporates). Once the resin has hardened, it is no longer toxic. don't eat it though.

  • @bowser1252 You should be fine. Tons of things are made out of fiberglass, including some motorcycle helmets.

  • @bowser1252 I haven't noticed anything, but the helmet is probably the one piece you could do without fiberglassing. I'm gonna be working on a costume for "The Darkness" that requires a face mask that I think I am gonna avoid fiberglassing out of paranoia alone. If i get a confirmed one way or the other I will let you and everyone else know.

  • Nice video, a question, When you fiberglassed the inside you first put a layer of resin then the fiber and then another layer of fiber ? or just the fiber then the layer ?

  • @stav3ng3r Resin, then fiberglass, then a layer of resin

  • Resin fumes are extremely hazardous, short-term effects of these fumes are dizziness, nausea and skin irritation. Long term effects of overexposure can include nervous system (brain) damage, asphyxiation, and cancer related hazards. Wear a gas mask or at least work outside in a well ventilated area, not a closed garage.

  • beck?

  • thank you for the video.

  • I'm new at this.

So is there a specific paper you use when using the program "Pepakura"?.

  • @Mallwiil12 Yes, It's called cardstock

  • @GreenMapleStudios Actually, let me rephrase that, Any paper will work, but if you are trying to make costumes use cardstock

  • Gigafide Brought me here!

  • donde se consigue la fibra de vidrio

  • @def847 Lo Compre en la tienda lowes

  • will putting aluminum foil on my work space prevent my piece from stick to the work surface?

  • @bilnabiln it wont stick to the table, but it'll stick to the foil. I have yet to find a good surface to resin on. I'll let you know if i discover one.

  • @GreenMapleStudios get a silicone baking mat

  • @mf9120 Where would I acquire one of those?

  • @GreenMapleStudios bed bath and beyond

  • @GreenMapleStudios maybe try waxing the surface ur working on

  • im starting to get money for this all i need is to know what paper i needed to use and where did u get the helmet cut outs?

  • @oldmanz49 @oldmanz49 Cardstock, the heavier the weight the better. And for whatever reason youtube won't let me post the link so google search "Halo Pepakura Wikia" and it should be the first thing that comes up.

  • can you fiber glass again after you fiber glass b4 like a 2nd coat?

  • @narutorendan024 I suppose you could, but there's no reason you should have to. Try fiberglassing your piece first and see if it needs to be stronger than that.

  • I'm having a hard time fiberglassing. I cut my pieces into about 1'' by 5'' pieces, and I started with the shin (which im on now) any tips?

  • @HyperSniperCo What aspect are you having a hard time with?

  • @GreenMapleStudios I figured it out. Turns out I wasnt cutting my strips long enough and when I would try to get to the middle with my brush, I would always screw it up. I'm going to have to cut out the mess up and re-do that part :D But this time it should be easier!

  • @HyperSniperCo Just remember that they don't have to be solid strips and you can lay them on top of each other, it's not terribly critical that everything on the inside of your helmet be flush.

  • @GreenMapleStudios Alright thank you :) I'm loving this project right now, and currently have most of my pieces painted. Just have to pep and resin a few more, and they should be good to go!

  • so i'm just getting into this sort of thing for making another kind of helmet, the fiberglass, what kind do you get? like what thickness and everything?

  • @TheWillRogers That's a good question, I use what is called Fiberglass Cloth, there's also something called fiberglass mat but I've never worked with it. As for the thickness, I'm not sure. I have another project I'm about to start on that calls for it so I'll let you know when I figure it out.

  • @GreenMapleStudios i'm makeing a daft punk helmet and just bought the fiberglass cloth the other day. the choices got much easier as i saw what the stores actually sold. everytime i searched online i only got big ol rolls of fiberglass insulation. are you intending on painting your papercraft helmet here and calling it good(apart from visor lol) or are you gonna do a casting of it?

  • You need a respirator. End of story. If you don't want to buy a respirator use something other than fiberglass resin, like Aqua Resin or Smoothcast. You can also try paper mache or foam.

Just remember to use a respirator, better safe than having cancer.

  • @TheFunnythings09 1)The fiberglass makes it solid, like a thick form of plastic.

    2) Yes

    3) I still haven't mastered the art of visor insertion. The one suit i finished I simply pushed it into place. The shape of the helmet kept it in place.

    4) Yes you can wear it, and you only fiberglass the inside because if you put the cloth on the outside of the piece it will lose a lot of its details.

  • ur irish :) im irish to

  • @LEGOBIGESTFAN11 That's nice

  • buen vídeo me sirve para un traje que estoy haciendo

  • is the song from the pillows?

  • make a halo reach airsoft gun

  • That aint a respirator thats a cheap paper mask dude. Get a face sealing respirator, you shouldn't be able to smell the resin AT ANY POINT

  • @TenebrusI07 I don't know why people are so hung up on this little bit. Yes it is a cheap face mask, unfortunately I do not make a whole lot of money. And I know I've said this before, but I'll say it again. There are no apparent health risks to being around the fumes, so its more of a comfort thing. The mask does prevent the odor from getting to you. After a while though you get used to them anyways, now I don't bother with the masks.

  • Where can I get the resin and fiberglass at?

  • Tio solo por poner de fondo la musica de FLCL = FOOLY COOLY te agrego el video y te pongo un punto positivo xD

  • hell yeah the pillows

  • okay i got it all figure out from another video sorry about that last comment

but how many drops did you put in for the hardener and how long for the fiberglass to dry off

also did you ever bondo your helmet?

  • @freshbreath3 for your first question, watch the video, I say it. And no, I'm not familiar with the use of bondo, so I avoid it. It shouldn't be necessary if your model is high enough res.

  • @GreenMapleStudios 7 drops?

  • WAIT A MINUTE I THOUGHT YOU HAVE TO PUT FIBERGLASS RESIN ON THE INSIDE NOT OUTSIDE

I THOUGHT YOU HAVE TO USE AQUA RESIN ON ON THE OUTSIDE CAUSE DOESN'T FIBERGLASS RESIN WILL LOSE THE DETAIL OF THE ARMOR

  • @freshbreath3 first of all, don't yell it's rude. Second, the resin I use is called fiberglass resin, not because it has fiberglass in it, but because it is the resin intended to be used with fiberglass. Aqua resin is a different kind of resin, and as I believe I've said before, I've never used or even seen the stuff. If you watch the video, you'll see that I don't use fiberglass on the outside because it will destroy the detail. You'll also see an end result clip at the end of the video.

  • @GreenMapleStudios i don't know i have fiberglass resin but the other video said to use fiberglass resin meaning you fiberglass the outside i don't want to sound rude but can you show the result video

  • @GreenMapleStudios ah shit...i fiberglassed the outside only lol but whatever it was my first helmet so next time ill do the inside only

  • What do you mix the resin with? Thanks man. I'm gonna have a shot at Zant from Zelda: Twilight Princess.

  • @MrHornyWii

Also can you spray paint a model after the whole process?

  • @MrHornyWii yes

  • @GreenMapleStudios

    Thanks a lot bro.

  • @peterbehler Thanks, but how much does the fiberglass cloth/resin cost?

  • @Vadersown like 5 bucks for the cloth and the resin is like 8

  • all the fiberglass i could find is the thick crap, yours looks nice and thin, and easy to bend, whered u get it?

  • @madmoo313 lowes or home depot, the stuff is called fiberglass cloth

  • @GreenMapleStudios so it's just the generic fiberglass cloth size? because my old man had some i dug out of the barn, and it was thick as balls, and what you used looked like paper thin, thanks bro

  • @madmoo313 yeah, what your dad had was probably fiberglass mat, which you could use as well. But i prefer the cloth.

  • @GreenMapleStudios thanks bro

  • hey, could you give me a link to the fiberglass and resin you used, i want to fiberglass some cardboard. and 10/10 on the song selection bro, brings back memories

  • @madmoo313 its elmer's fiberglass resin. I think it may just melt through your cardboard though

  • @GreenMapleStudios what if i were to coat the cardboard with, say, wood glue first, or what if i glue some of the stuff you made the helmet out of on the outside of the cardboard? (what was that stuf again?) i really want the thick look of the cardboard, so i'd really like to make it work, any help would be wonderful, thanks bro

  • @madmoo313 I use card stock for most of my models...and that may work, but the amount of wood glue that project would require would be rediculous

  • @GreenMapleStudios well, yeah, i guess it would, i might be cheap and just use rubber cement to glue card stock to it, not sure tho... thanks for the help anyhow, hopefully, it'll all work out for otakon

  • Where can you get the resin and fiberglass?

  • @Vadersown You get the the fiberglass resin and fiberglass cloth and hardener at walmart in the auto repair section. Pick up a cheap low/high temp glue gun while youre there too. And don't forget the respirator that is certified as protection again Organic Fumes, I got one at Lowes for $40

  • Fiberglass and resin are the same things.Unless you use a different resin than fiberglass resin.

  • Halo is the worst game. It's storyline is just bad.I imagine halo as a not-so-famous futuristic world of warcraft.Which is why i cut up my helmet and used it as paper mache. And then cover it up in fiberglass resin and bondo.

  • @LAFFProductions2 cool story bro

  • what is the name of the songs

  • @ahpuesbru the first one is "come down" the second is "Crazy Sunshine" both are by the pillows

  • I've been looking for a video tutorial like this the whole night, thank you so much

  • @ahpuesbru you're welcome ^_^ glad I could help.

  • @TheTransformerguy1 there's really not a whole lot, you can resin without fiberglass, but you can't fiberglass without resin.

  • do you need to resin the inside to?

  • @Mattexus yes

  • i used tape to hold the paper togther will still get the same results or will it not work

  • @10dragon456 The resin will melt the tape, I suggest going back and super gluing your model back together.

  • will u also show how to put in a visor

  • @joealtair3000 Probably not, but your best bet is to buy a motorcycle visor and simply slide it into place, you can attach it if you feel more comfortable that way, but in my experience you can usually just leave it and the pressure of the helmet should keep it in place

  • thank you so much man this is the only tutorial on youtube that actually helps

  • thats a particle mask, is that good for fumes?

  • @FutureLaugh the fumes aren't that bad, so the mask is just a little bit more comfortable to work with.

  • Is there anything else like a plastic that hardens but remains slightly flexible? or do I just put more layers of resin?

  • @1zacster i'm not sure i understand the question, but resin tends to not be very flexible. I'm not sure of any products that behave in the way that you describe.

  • @GreenMapleStudios Strong like if you drop it but slightly flexible so it has some give before it snaps?

  • hey im new on the pepakura front but can i spray something like a laquer instead of resin?

  • do u fiberglass tje outside

  • @allSaLTwater no you do not. but you can if you want

  • @allSaLTwater you resin the outside but fiberglass and resin on the insiide

  • the fat guy is a loser, at one part he was touching his crotch! ewwwww....

  • Do you apply both resin and fiberglass to the outside and inside?

  • @BowKaiser No, you only fiberglass the inside. If you fiberglass the outside, you'll lose a lot of detail.

  • @GreenMapleStudios But you resin both right?

  • @BowKaiser yes.

  • @BowKaiser ok this is exactly what you want to do resin the inside and out as many times as you want then cut each piece of fiber glass cloth or mat in to 3 by 3 squar's then get glue spray and spray the inside of the armor then put your cut peice's in it ounce it's dry resin the inside.. then its done and there you go sand it smooth getting all the shinny off it ok for each lid of resin add 18 drops thats how i do it and its good look up my videos kuckles12305 i dont use that account any more

  • lol furi kuri ost

  • what resin do u use

  • @commandersem Elmer's Fiberglass Resin, I've seen other people use other products, but this is the one that was readilly available to me, and it wasn't all that expensive.

  • This is seriously one of the best pepakura instructional videos I have seen. You guys ROCK. Well done. Perfect presentation just before I head out to the store.

  • good job !

which paper di u use ? how many g/m² ?

  • Those respirators totally look up to grade for fiberglass resin.

  • @taylorlaruehughes Its what I could afford at the time. Also, there's very little danger from the fumes, so the mask is more a matter of comfort. And, as I'm sure I've said before, its better than nothing.

  • good video, audio needs to be tweaked a bit though. I'd rather hear what you have to say rather than a Pillows concert (despite they're one of my fav bands).

    good job! :3

  • hey wat if you cant get to the inside of your model (i made a weapon out of card stock and well its all closed up so i cant put the fiber glass on the inside) ... any tips on how to make it rock hard?

  • @kyle44422 make a little hole and fill it with smooth cast 300, theres a video on that: Halo Helmet - Casting Plastic into Pepakura

  • @kyle44422 I've never tried Diannatena's method, but i'll have to look that up, another method is once you have it resined on the outside, split it in two, prefererably with something that will cut it clean like a rotary tool, then fiberglass the inside, once its dry glue back together.

  • @kyle44422 Fill it with foam. or resin the outside and then fill it full of rondo. (resin plus bondo) for more info go to 405th.com

  • @kyle44422 use a rotary tool, cut it in half, fiberglass the inside of both halves and then super glue them back together.

  • awesome thanks man

  • Hey do i need to resin my helmet all at once or do sertan parts so it doesnt shrink im using the cardstock

  • @zachcyko it shouldn't shrink, as you can see in this video, i do the entire outside of the helmet first, let it dry, then do the inside.

  • Just a tip, you could just cut the fiberglass before using it with the resin.. ^^

  • @daniel304kingkong ....i do...i say to cut it into strips in the video as well....

  • @GreenMapleStudios

Sorry, my bad, had sound turned off >.<

Anyway, I didn't see it properly in the video ^^, Nice tutorial anyway,

Going to fiberglass/bondo my helmet tomorrow.

  • @GreenMapleStudios now... do you use fiberglass mats or fiberglass cloth?

  • @DRAGONIRONFIST either one...i use cloth cuz it tends to be cheaper and easier to find

  • @GreenMapleStudios oh ok cool thanks man!

  • so once your done with card stock you resin then fivreglass?? AN EPIC THANKS IN ADVANCE AND GREAT VID

  • what did you mix with the resin and where did you get it

  • @zachcyko its just called resin catalyst, and you can probably buy some where ever you bought the resin. most brands of resin already come with a tube of the stuff though.

  • like your work and your music-taste... pillows ftw!

  • Dude how come there is only step 2 and not 3 or 4?? Please make them!!!

  • Is it ok to put fiberglass outside of the project or should i just make more layers of resin? im making a pepakura sword and i dont know how to harden it.

  • @Jeff00Boyardee I wouldn't. If you do, it will destroy the details of your model. If you do put fiberglass on the outside make sure you bondo over it and recreate the details again.

  • good effort on the safety but those are just dust masks your using you are suppose to use a carbon rated mask.

  • @IJackCarverI for the most part they worked, but its whatever you prefer. I'm a bit more resilient than most so for me it was more of a comfort thing. If you're working in an open air environment, like a garage with the door/window open, there's really no health concern.

  • did you put more the one coat of fiber resin on there? and should it look gray or yellowish brown when it drys ik the color probably depends on the brand nad im using bondo

  • @thief1111 No, its really not necessary to do more than one coat, and yes, it should look yellowish or so. Whats important is how it feels afterwards. If it hard, and not sticky (giggidy) then you're all set.

  • hey man if u are interested in a halo reach noble 6 helmet email me at transformer9580@yahoo.com

  • now i have a question for you will you go ahead and put a visor on it? and atop that how do you get the fiberglass to stay? do you resin than fiberglass than resin again? or what i dont understand.

  • @Evilgothicking the helmet i'm working on in this video is actually to small for anyone to wear, so no i won't be putting a visor in it. But yes, you resin first, then place the fiberglass down.

  • Could you please re-state what paper it is you're using. You didn't appear to put any fiber glass on the outside, is that correct? Perhaps you could caption your video, the up/down volume made it hard to hear.
