His philosophy about humour is absolutely spot on. You've got to find the humour, even on your bad days; otherwise your mind starts thinking old. Brilliant comedian, one of the last of his generation too.
why would you title this video Ken Dodd 1927 - ? don't you feel that's a little rude, and a bit like a vulture, it looks to me that cannot wait for our ken to pass soyou can fill in numbers. why not just say Ken Dodd, you offend me
More of today's comedian's should take a leaf out of Ken's book - he proves that you don't need to swear and call every name under the sun to get a laugh. I'd be delighted to pay good money to go and see him - he'd be worth every penny.
@CriZzaxXx if u are a teenager then he will be coz all they like is swearing that is not comedy and young people wont get him all coz he dont swear
KEN Dodd is a liverpool legend long overdue KNIGHTHOOD I have seen him over 7 times met him twice love the gentle man that he is Ken dodd is a real legend been doing it for 57 years he is 84 and still to this day stands on stage from 7pm untill half past 1 in the morning going to see him may this is my opinion that is your opinion
@CriZzaxXx how dare you ! all of your so called modern comics class this man as one of the greats . His timing and his delivery are classic .If you have nothing respectful to say then dont bother!
@CriZzaxXx I'm not surprised why you love Lee Evans, you both have "being a twat" in common. Lee Evans is only hilarious if your 12 years old "hahaha look at this guy he's all sweaty and he's making a pratt out of himself, who cares what jokes he's got look at his face, priceless hahaha that's comedy gold" I bet that's what you sound like, dick. Out of all the funny comedians out there you had to pick one of the worst, he's second on my list after Russell Howard.
My grandparents took me and my sister to see KD at the Blackpool Tower in 1980.
Sis and I looked at each other in dread, but went along with it.
Well. He was just absolutely amazing. The repartee with the audience was unforgettable. He'd stop at a moments request to sing any song and when he sang My son, my son there were some women in serious tears. We still talk about it and remember our dear Gramps and Nana.
Please no silly abuse-but i just dont find him funny! And Im from Liverpool. I just fiund him annoying. Only old school comedian I really liked was Dave Allen, and maybe Hancock.
We saw Ken at Worthing 2009 - best comedian ever - long overdue for a Knighthood - why has it taken so long?? Surely can't be sour grapes from the Taxman after all this time?
We went to see Ken Dodd a few years ago on hallowe'en - went in October, came out in November - his stamina was amazing.
The programme 'An Audience with Ken Dodd' is one of the funniest things I have ever seen. And NO bad language.
He's also a very nice man; he mentioned us in his show and replied to a letter we sent afterwards. Ok, he had some issues with the Inland Revenue, but if Jeffrey Archer can be a Lord, Ken Dodd can be a Sir.
This man is a national treasure. His act today remains as the last living link with the old time, twice nightly variety that took place in theatres all over the country. Although variety is now dead and most if those old variety theatres are now demolished or are Bingo Hallls, Ken , at an age when a lot of people would be putting their feet up, still tours and appears, mainly on one night performances, at venues rented for the purpose (as distinct from being engaged by theatre proprietors).
Come on Ken should be made a Sir he deserves it, give him a Knighthood he has made generations laugh and he is clean, ive never heard him swear. Going to see him at Glasgow Pavillion 5/6, looking forward to it.
@MegaTaurus777 I'm going to see Ken Dodd for the 1st time at the Glasgow Pavilion on 4th June 2011 and I cannot wait, I feel priviliged to be able to see Ken Live!
I think about it every day I've neer been so excited in all my life by jove :)
Please take away the Bracketed part of the title. Just name it Ken Dodd I think it's disrespectful. You obviously (as I do) love Ken and think he's a comic genius, so please don't take this the wrong way :)
saw him in Warrington last year and it was 4 hours of constant laughing Not smut or vulgar great whole family fun if you don't see him soon he wont be here as he is getting on in tears sad to say
I went to see him in Derby a few years ago. 7.30 the show started.... 11 40 he finally went off stage. My bum was numb and my belly was hurting with laughing so hard and so long. it was worth every single penny he really gives his all. I have seen so many good comedians over the years but his was without question the most memorable for me. If you go see him you will understand...Brilliant.
@quattro610 lol We went to bridlington spa theatre and yer he started at 7.30 but we came out at 1am lol good job we got fish and chips before hand haha
@calum769 Saw him at Hull ABC in 1971 (I was 11) and still remembering and laughing now! Missed last bus and train, got taxi home but it was worth it. Mind you, to be fair, Dad paid!
Doddy always manages to raise the spirts whether its his comedy or fantastic voice. he deserves his knighthood . Hes is this country's last great entertainers
One of the last, great entertainers left with us. Grew up with Doddy's comedy in the '70's and lived locally to me in Knotty Ash. Great to see him still going strong!!
How does he do it?!! The man's a genius, and his timing is faultless. Plus he doesn't do a 30 minute set like most comics, he believes in giving value for money so his stand up routines are known to last for hours on end. At his age that's incredible. And as has been said, he doesn't have to resort to swearing etc to get his laughs, he's a natural funnyman and.quite brilliant.
The thing I like about Ken Dodd is the fact that I could take my whole family to one of his shows, we would all get plenty of laughs and no one would be offended. A rare talent these days. Long may he continue.
This man...is definitly THE!!! best comedian alive atm...never a bad word in his material...he always makes his audiance laugh!!...and by god he entertains...i went to see him a few years ago in blackpool...9pm showing...i didn't get out of the damn place till 3...3!!!! in the morning!!! :D Why that stupid cow of a queen hasn't knighted this man...is feckin beyond me!!!
@Eluneya its because he still ows the taxman! But the Queen Mum died owing the country about 300 grand so I dont see where the problem should be to give one of Britains greatest comedians a knighthood that is obviously long over due!
ken dodd is the best comedian i have ever known (through the media) as a boy , we as a family used to listen to the radio on a sunday afternoon and ken was on shouting! "wheres me shirt" he was on with entertainers like kenneth horne, kenneth williams and hugh paddick (julian and sandy) . brilliant days. we finished off our sunday with a bath, and a listen to the "stargazers" (the stargazers are on the air). ken should definately be knighted.
KEN RULES!!! NEVER FAILS IF YOU NEED A BLOOMIN' GOOD LAUGH....God Knows WE ALL DO...!!!!! KEEP WATCHING THE MASTER OF BRITISH COMEDY AT ITS BEST!!!!! CHUCKLES KEEP YOU YOUNG!!!! MORE MORE MORE KEN!!!! LOVE YA..!!!!
I'm a 21 year old student and had come to think that Ken Dodd was a clapped out old geezer who just played shows to pensioners but this is quality stand-up! Books and covers etc.
Ken is at the Birmingham Hippodrome in May 2010. I've booked but seats are nearly sold out. It's about 43yrs since I last saw Ken at exactly the same Theatre.
Sadly Ken is joining a long list of people the UK government has overlooked for a nomination for a knighthood! Ron Goodwin and Eric Coates from the music world! Tommy Cooper? I am currently organising a campaign to get the composer Ron Goodwin belatedly knighted. Someone should start the same for Ken! You will have my support for one! Happiness! Happiness! And use those chuckle muscles!
ken dodd, is part of of my life, i'm so pleased to have ben born when i was, growing up with me, kenn, cilla, morcambe & wise, tommy cooper, des o'connor, max bygraves, dave allen, so many more, like or not, they are part of british life.
Ken is brilliant. Our school class of 1962 is making a list of 'Things To Do Before We Die' - I have recommended we all see Ken Dodd in a live performance then we can all die happy!
thats why i want to see him, all the people i no that has seen him say that he just stays on stage until people start leaving. he did a 2h show in the 80's that lasted for over 4h because he just keeped on going
Ken Dodd is great, but he'll sadly never be Sir Ken, most likely due to his 'Tax issues', which he eludes to at 7:35 in this clip. Even though he was acquited of an offence, he still had enormous problems with the Inland Revenue. In fact, furing his court case, he revealed he kept £336,000 in a suitcase in his home. The Judge asked 'What does that feel like', to which the great comic replied 'The notes are very light, M'Lud'! Classic Doddy!
we saw him last night in worthing the show started at 19.30 and he walked off stage at 00.50 he must have done about 5 hours on stage
what a performer when you hear the so called stars of today moaning about their workload and an 81 year old man can do that it puts it all into perspective
Ken has always been like that. His show ends when he finishes not when the poster says so. He often goes on for at least an hour longer than he was booked to do.
The last of a great breed of British stand up comedians in the tradition of Les Dawson, Tommy Cooper and Eric Morecambe. If you've never seen him live, do so , but check the local bus and train times and then book a taxi. Also, take a flask of tea and your sandwiches. It was said of the late great James Brown but trust me, THIS is the hardest working man in show business and the tax man has had plenty from him in his 50 odd plus year career in showbusiness.
Britain brings the best comedians out into the spotlight! :-)

Ken is brilliant. Our school class of 1962 is making a list of 'Things To Do Before We Die' - I have recommended we all see Ken Dodd in a live performance then we can all die happy!

Ken Dodd is the greatest of all living comedians. If you haven't seen him in the flesh, you've missed a treat.
He's also a very nice man.
I waited outside the Palace Theatre stage door in Manchester for him back in 1958, when I was a lad of 14.
He was absolutely charming, chatted to me for a few minutes, signed my autograph for me and gave me a photo which he signed (I still have that).
He wasn't playing to a crowd, showing how pleasant he was - it was just him and me.
A very great star.

"Husbands; that's a man with a nerve taken out"
:L :L :L
classic comedy genius... legend
"she who must be obeyed"
"don't leave me teddy"
"you mustn't surprise your husband like that; it doesn't give him chance to think of anyone"
"In Britain, a woman is having a romantic interlude, she looks up, and she says "that ceiling needs doing" "
*******KEN DODD FOREVER*******

we saw him last night in worthing the show started at 19.30 and he walked off stage at 00.50 he must have done about 5 hours on stage
what a performer when you hear the so called stars of today moaning about their workload and an 81 year old man can do that it puts it all into perspective
A real genius

Ken has always been like that. His show ends when he finishes not when the poster says so. He often goes on for at least an hour longer than he was booked to do.

my parent were at one of his gigs and the show over ran for 5 hours

The last of a great breed of British stand up comedians in the tradition of Les Dawson, Tommy Cooper and Eric Morecambe. If you've never seen him live, do so , but check the local bus and train times and then book a taxi. Also, take a flask of tea and your sandwiches. It was said of the late great James Brown but trust me, THIS is the hardest working man in show business and the tax man has had plenty from him in his 50 odd plus year career in showbusiness.

I'll be honest, if i had to guess who would be in the audience of Ken Dodd, Wolf from Gladiators would not have been my first thought.
