i got a demo down load on it today its cool like to tell you of a tool that would be cool to have for us guitar players look into it lot of youtube vids on it call (you rock guitar midi controller) midi controller that set up just like a guitar and you would rock ass off with this vst and nice song you play hear
I gotta tell you, I just got electri6ity which is certainly the best and most complete guitar library (It's around 22gb, really heavy) and it isn't that good, it's hard making it sound good at all, I prefer using my Epiphone LP, for now it still sounds better.
@Liquadia the vst used in this is slayer 2, hes just simply stating he is improvising a lead guitar, Via a virtual guitar (slayer 2) hense the "Virtual Lead Guitar Improvisation" hope this helps
Amazing!!!... By the way, any idea why the pitch wheel on my midi controller does not make that bending effect?? (slayer 2 with m-audio keystation 49)
i tried ewql ministry of rock for example, and it sound much much better and real than slayer.or musiclab real guitar.or some sample libraries...pettinhouse direct guitar, chris hein guitars, prominy sc electric guitar and so on...
I never thought I would find someone that could play the guitar on a keyboard almost better than me. Yes, you can play the guitar on the keyboard ALMOST better than me. Great job. Sounds great....
My opinion is, if you want it to sound real, you gotta play a real guitar, if you're usin' vst, it just has to sound good. And I like the sound of Slayer 2, so why shouldn't I use it? But that's just my opinion.
I don't understand how I got 2 thumbs down, I mean, I'm not like 'Uh, piss off if you don't like me' but I don't get it, did I say anything wrong? I think not, and if I did, please tell me, but I don't seem to see it. Also, as I said, it's just my opinion, if you're not with me, fine, I don't care, I accept everybody's opinions, I didn't wanna insult or bother anybody or argue against anything, I just stated my opinion^^ Thanks for reading if you did x3
No I'm not a racist, but if you wanna insult somebody, do it right or don't do it. Better don't do it at all, you'll get sued. Because it's stupid. Critic = Good. Insulting for no reason = Bad. Get it?
Yay a portamento effect with a midi wheel and some overdrive, why the heck do I need a special software synth to do that, I bet I could do it with ZynAddSubFx + JackRack in linux. The background stuff can be done with fluidsynth and a cheap Yamaha keyboard. Of course, not many musicians can manage linux, so I guess in the words of Billy Joel "You pay for your satisfaction, somewhere along the line". Me I'm not paying for it.
I've always been very good at firsts.. I just constructed my own computer, on camera, start to finish, XFX 750i mobo, Pentium D extreme (3.8 Ghz, OC capable to 4.2 Ghz, no coolants). 1GB High Speed Ram, Ubuntu is so memory efficient it doesn't really need much more.. 630Watt PS, SLI ready . I videotaped my construction. I don't have a 10 minute limit on my YT account, so you might see a 3 hour video. Check out my 400+ vids, many over 30 minutes. Then I'll demonstrate the guitar effects.
Did I say that.. What I meant to say is Ubuntu Studio has everything needed to do most audio production work. Just, not very many people know it. And the jack asses such as yourself who are so weak with any technology are subject to point out that I'm a idiot because of your insecurities with Linux, because it makes you feel better about yourself. I'm all too familiar with your kind. Often when I get a guy like you, the secret is it's someone who wasn't successful getting Linux to work.
rfthorax - you've made some good points about Ubuntu. Thing is, if you use a PC or Mac and can do everything you need to do without fuss, what would be the point of going through the learning curve all over again? I've often thought about trying Linux then I think - but why? I mainly use a Mac and I think we've reached the point where stuff works the way we always wanted it to a few years back. I still fancy having a play though!
You can find comfortable positions on any OS, but when they break down you are either left with someone who doesn't really know a lot about what goes on inside. However with linux, there is a better chance you will, and beyond that it is designed by people who use it. Whereas with the other OS's I'm sure the developers go home and use something else. When developers spend time designing for the OS they use, it affects the design. Also Linux tends to be is codec/format agnostic.
I know what you mean about getting comfortable. When I used MS, I used to put up with stuff but what could you do. Since moving to Mac in 2005, all the frustration stopped - completely. When things go wrong, you need help - I just do not have that problem anymore - that's why I can't see any need to change. I do think that to be open minded, you need to understand the alternatives. For that reason, I will give Linux a try.
The deal is that with the Mac's Apple makes the hardware so they don't have to deal with hardware compatibility issues that Windows and Linux developers do. The problem with Windows is most all drivers are written by third parties, and Microsoft maintains an API for connecting to those drivers. In Linux the drivers are written into the OS, so when you connect a device, most of the time Linux will instantly recognize it. Also Linux has multiple GUI's like KDE, Gnome, XFCE, Enlightenment, etc.
Take a hodge podge of video files and try viewing them on a mac, windows machine and linux. In Ubuntu you can install most all the codecs for video and audio format.. Search on google for "medibuntu". I can view videos encoded for my Samsung video player, for my Sony Webbie I just bought, for the HD camcorder my brother bought which he can't even get to with his windows software. Also I can hookup most any kind of printer to Ubuntu, and any other Linux on the network will see and print to them.
I did have a bit of a problem viewing certain video files but various codecs are freely available, problem quickly solved and HD through my Macbook looks great on my Vierra TV. I think you may be right about your next comment about Mac taking from the Linux arena. Whatever they've done, I now have the computing power to do what I really wanted to do 10 years ago! If Win7 does the same for PC users - great but if I had to leave Mac, I'd probably go Linux. Once bitten and all that!
I've never had it so easy as to get stuff to work on a network with Windows. Also Windows doesn't even support CUPS (printer code), which BTW was designed by Apple developers, for Unix.. Go figure. The Mac is basically NeXT OS (Unix) with a different GUI . I'm sure apple just piggybacks the driver developments in the Linux arena cause Mac's have never had the need to port to many different hardware configurations like Linux or Windows. The only thing that really changes with Mac is the software.
may as well use the space to reply! The problem with many people is the closed-minded attitude and peer-pressure. You would not believe the warnings I had about moving to Mac five years ago, all from people who had never used one. It was a risk but I'm glad I did because being fluent in both OS's is useful. I feel a bit guilty for not trying Ubuntu, but will make an effort to get up to speed and criticise from experience rather than mere opinion! Cheers.
And you know what, often those people I talk to them about it and suggest a CD to use and how to install it.. They get it working, then they feel stupid because all they needed to do was get past the hurdle of getting Linux installed and getting oriented. I had one guy who thought that he was getting CMOS errors was a Linux problem. Not everyone knows how to install an OS. Things stop working and they give up. Buy a new computer. Doesn't do the environment a damn bit of good.
It can't hurt to know something about open source because the more you know the more powerful you become with less. Commercial software will only keep you wanting more and more. The great thing about open source software is you are given only what is really needed to do what you need to do, so you spend less time looking for tools and more time working. Also given that most all the software is free, you are free to collaborate with anyone. Mac and Windows you have to buy all the same packages.
Also given the fact that most every Linux distribution has a single package download manager, you neddn't go looking around the net for the software. Every site you go to download software increases your chance of getting malware, because you don't know where the software has been before. Package managers on linux handle the install and deinstall with a single "checkbox" and "apply". A managed download process prevents inclusion of malware through the use of MD5 and author signature checks.
But I guess its more fun to play with toys and install oodles of software that slows down your computer with redundant drivers and redundant attention hungry deskbar junk, than to be productive.
BTW, if you use Windows. Linux can be configured such as to never bug you about security patch downloads. So say you are creating a great music composition, Linux doesn't say "we need to download a massive security patch right now. Ready to reboot in 2 minutes?" .. Then persistently nags at you.
I also guess you don't care about having access to over 200 high quality reverbs, phasers, formant filters and such via LADSPA plugins. Or even VST plugin compatibility in programs like LMMS (which is a open source Fruity Loops clone, along with several builtin in soft synths and capability for floating point oversampled sound rendering to a number of formats like FLAC, OGG, MP3, MP2, WAV,... OR even access to a real-time kernel optimized for audio processing, with JACK audio/midi patching.
I bet you a million I couldn't give a shit less about Ubuntu or any other OS for that matter. Whatever OS works for you. I care about how a song sounds in the end. Not how much easier (which is subject to opinion) it is on another OS. The OS doesn't make the music, the musician does. Every person has their pref in tools. Should I hate a song because someone uses a guitar brand I don't care for? That's narrow minded. You're narrow minded. Realize that not everyone prefers the things you do.
See my more recent videos.. I demonstrate Jack. It is accessible on the Mac's if you want it for the mac's. But even though it was ported to Windows, it doesn't yet work with anything on windows. The video I just released today demonstrates some of the things the "JACK audio connection kit" can do. Then you can see if your computer can do that, and what software is required to be able to do it. Also I can do this for free.. So could you.
Also, realize I didn't criticize Linux. In fact, I don't know much about it.
I indirectly criticized your childish "use the same OS I do because my opinion means more." Linux is fine. Mac is fine. Windows is fine. Fuck, name an OS and if I can accomplish what I want then I'll love it. If it works for you, then great. Use it. Glad it works out for you. Just don't be so fucking narrow minded and let people choose what suits them. Does it really effect you?
Depends if you use the presets or make your own voices, but something like EWQL Ministry of Rock or Waves GTR3 is still far better sounding from the start.
Though it's really all down to the skill of the player.
Well I just got slayer2, and never really used the original. But if there is not a function, or an effect maybe run it through a mixer channel with a pitchshift, and link the amount knob to you controller? sorry i really dont know either.
haha it works like any other vst. Just load it and viola. I'm not sure if you can get really good sounds out of Slayer2 but you can go to the FX thing and edit knobs. Also to use the slide feature, open the piano roll have like 1 long note and then have a smaller note placed on the note that you want to slide. Then with the smaller note, double click it and click on the SLIDE box.
Great jamming! Just found these virtual guitar videos in youtube today and was surprised how far people have taken the technique. This must take a lot of practice! It also makes me think... what would the playing sound like if you just put the effort in honing your skills with a really real _ guitar :) Of course I can see the great advantages with this technology... It's possible to record this good-sounding stuff at home. It's really impressive, even more so when it's pure improvisation :) GJ!
Thanks for the comment! I always enjoyed playing solo's on (monophonic) synthesizers, with these guitar-like bending techniques. When I play ReFX Slayer I hear the guitar idiom in my head but it works out as a keyboard solo with a guitar-like sound. If I had the skills playing real guitar solo's it probably would sound totally different :-)
It's a strange world, the world of virtual instruments.
mm. I have slayer 2 but I dont use it anymore, sounds too clunky and electronic for my liking, but whatever floats your boat :) its still a good plugin if you like the way it sounds or dont have much in the way of guitar skills.
Is it just me? Sounds like a keyboard player trying to mimic a guitar playing. Damn.. I am not even a good guitar player.. but I know how a real guitar player plays.
Its hybrid synthesizing, so don't expect too much, but well, i'v heard worse than this, :P
but in general this is not too bad :)
but what i prefer is to use a soundbank that is a few 100 MB , and run it trough the best guitar amp simulator you can find.
And by doing programming, i add some humanizing, and variations, seperate notes on seperate channels, so i can individual edit each "string/note" like doing pitch down, a human can't pitch 2 strings exectly the same
Yep, released by Musiclab. It's basically an extremely well multisampled Fender Strat. Crazy good sounding. They do a really really good acoustic emulation with Realguitar.
i got a demo down load on it today its cool like to tell you of a tool that would be cool to have for us guitar players look into it lot of youtube vids on it call (you rock guitar midi controller) midi controller that set up just like a guitar and you would rock ass off with this vst and nice song you play hear

Depends if you use the presets or make your own voices, but something like EWQL Ministry of Rock or Waves GTR3 is still far better sounding from the start.
Though it's really all down to the skill of the player.

This plugin sounds like shit,
anything that isn't sampled based, in relation to guitars of course, will sound like shit.

what are you exact settings inc software
SecondLifeSailing 2 years ago
this vst is given a bad name because it sounds cheap if not used right, but you sure made it sound perfect gj!
asssda2 2 years ago
Shit! Your sound is really cool! Is that Ableton Live? How can you do a bending is you don't own a controller? I use FL8.
alancito86 2 years ago
tip: fuck ableton
keep FL. its your best friend
wallpaperkilla 2 years ago
Ok! Thanks! But you know how to do a bending?
alancito86 2 years ago
Well I just got slayer2, and never really used the original. But if there is not a function, or an effect maybe run it through a mixer channel with a pitchshift, and link the amount knob to you controller? sorry i really dont know either.
peace.
wallpaperkilla 2 years ago
use the slide feature.
patrickphan2 2 years ago
I still don't understand this Slayer 2 thing. You know how to use it?
alancito86 2 years ago
haha it works like any other vst.

As a matter of fact, I am a drummer in a band and they did not kick me out yet. Cheers!

PS if you played like that in a real band for more than 3 mins they would kick you outta the band - attention seekers not welcome LOL ;)))))))) ;)

Slayer 2 doesn't sound that realistic :P
RealStrat sounds better :)
tranceemerson 3 years ago

Cheers, JM

you tried the realstrat/guitarrig 3 combination?
keysersozeh 3 years ago
No, but with the Line6 PodFarm plugin, which I use, it could sound interesting as well. I did not try RealStrat yet though.

Errrrrggg overtuigend spel, erg goed!!
ik neem aan dat dit geen standaard Slayer instelling is?
Het lukt mij maar niet om er een goed gitaargeluid uit te krijgen!!!...Misschien dat je nog tips hebt?

Thanks for the comment. I don't use the Slayer lead presets as they are pretty bad. Check the kvraudio site for some of my lead presets. Cheers, Jop
JimAward 3 years ago
what MIDI controller is that?
NV3 3 years ago
The Line6 TonePort KB37. It's a combination of a USB audio interface with guitar amp modeling and a MIDI controler.

slayer 2 sucks !!!
Paxadzor 3 years ago
mm. I have slayer 2 but I dont use it anymore, sounds too clunky and electronic for my liking, but whatever floats your boat :) its still a good plugin if you like the way it sounds or dont have much in the way of guitar skills.

this is sweet.
and finally i know what this slayer thing does ;)

Thanks for 5 minutes of pleasure.

Is it just me? Sounds like a keyboard player trying to mimic a guitar playing. Damn.. I am not even a good guitar player.. but I know how a real guitar player plays.
ezra4no1 3 years ago
Its hybrid synthesizing, so don't expect too much, but well, i'v heard worse than this, :P
but in general this is not too bad :)
but what i prefer is to use a soundbank that is a few 100 MB , and run it trough the best guitar amp simulator you can find.
And by doing programming, i add some humanizing, and variations, seperate notes on seperate channels, so i can individual edit each "string/note" like doing pitch down, a human can't pitch 2 strings exectly the same

it sounds convincing to me, in a very electronic way. This guy got a lot of awesome out of this.

You should hear RealStrat...
RDyt 3 years ago 4
Whats RealStrat, is it a piece of software?
imperialpod 3 years ago
Yep, released by Musiclab. It's basically an extremely well multisampled Fender Strat. Crazy good sounding. They do a really really good acoustic emulation with Realguitar.
RDyt 3 years ago
Cheers chum, I just checked the acoustic version and its VERY convincing, thanx!

Crazy isn't it... Scary for guitarists at least! Haha...

There is a version with Electric Guitar simulation too. It is called RealGuitar.
