  • love all your vids James!

  • An absolutely gorgeous show.

  • Give me a weekend with canvases the size of garage doors, plenty of paint and supplies, and a couple of cases of beer...

  • Amazing paintings! It's a sheer joy to look them! I've always enjoyed Willem De Kooning's pictures.Fantastic video of his work!

  • I forgot the one on 25th street was pretty much more impressive.as a "gallery"

  • to be IN THIS GALLERY, will probably make my bathrooms look good anyway...a place to see... not saying any opinion towards the paintings here.

  • Thanks, that was a great clip, I really enjoyed your info and the beautiful Kooning paintings!!

  • thanks..is the "overworking with the white" actually deleting unwanted lines? what do you think?

  • I started understanding a little bit about what art was by reading what De Kooning said about it in an interview with Harold Rosenberg. It is always humbling to be confronted to great art.

  • Txs for posting Jameskalm... great job!

  • Beautiful show! A Master.

  • placed into my playlist of Willem de Kooning, thanks

  • Thank you for this clip!

  • Fabulous video welldone. De Kooning was simply a brilliant artist. An inspiration to see any of his paintings aspecially his early works woman's series and his black and white paintings when at the time he couldn't afford to buy colour oils! Then came escavation and we know the rest.

  • great.

  • Thank you for the video. I think Da Kooning was centuries ahead of his time.Great paintings. Thanks for the journey again!

  • another first class video! the documentary footage of DeKooning painting whilst heavily debilitated from alzheimers is astounding, i would say he was never more focused at any other time in his career!

  • James, thanks for the art history fact at the end of the video. I didn't know that, and wish I had known that the last time I visited NYC. I would have found the house and thought about all the great paintings made in that place by DeKooning and Resnick.

  • where's this again?

  • Gogasian Gallery West 21st Street, September 2007.

  • lofgy was here !!!

  • Great to see some De Kooning's I've never seen before, thanks. Forget the labels, forget "genius", he would have wanted to be called a great painter, maybe the best of his time.

  • Hey JK, Nice work, I enjoy the videos. I also enjoy the commentary from the people who talk, but do nothing else. You keep me up on shows and I grow tired of there no photo, no video rules. Bravo!

  • nice, all that work from different periods together.

u know, there has been discussion about the worth of the paintings from the verylate period, because of DeKoonings's alzheimerdisease. I always thought it striking that within this period he developed his style in unforseen but consistent ways. i think one of his most enigmatic periods. What does that say about the depths of alzheimer disease?

  • Thanks for the video James, very ballsy.

i espeacially like the way u start your films, "another half ass production", thats funny. keep up the good work.

  • nice touch filming your bike first, almost like dekooning had rode down from the springs.........he was a special man. thanks james kalm.

  • um he was dutch

  • He wasnt a fucking genius, only a good painter. Genius was Matisse, Duchamp, Dali, Picasso, Rembrandt, Vincent, etc. WHAT THE FUCK AMERICANS ABOUT ART???? It seems that americans dont have any type of culture!!!

  • You cant compare de Kooning, with Matisse, Duchamp, Dali, Picasso, Rembrandt, Vincent, etc.

The art of the abstract expressionist was affected by the european painter. But its become a totaly different art.

And for me de Kooning is an european painter with a lot of culture. He was born in Rotterdam, dont forgett this.

and he was a fucking genius !!!

  • "WHAT THE FUCK AMERICANS ABOUT ART"........what the fuck you about speaking. dismissing an entire country. your place is what you make of it. your place sounds hateful and ignorant.i am an immigrant to america like dekooning, i like it here, some nice people.

  • once you start calling this one a genius and this one not, you fall into a trap. either its for you or its not. top tens are a very american way of looking at things....top ten singles, top grossing movies, top hottest jerks............just move on.

  • James. Thanks for being gutsy enough to make these videos. I just wish I could be there myself to see them.

  • poor video about a genius painter!

  • Wow, loved it, nice close ups, the idea of "boiled down" makes sense.

  • Very nice show
