  • This actually scared me a little. We're so small. Things exist that are bigger than us. OMG.. D: Dx

  • ur anus is 51 thousand kilometres big

  • WAR IN IRAK

  • Was shown this in school and I freaking love this video! I wonder how big VV Cephei would be as a Red Giant! or how bright it would be as a supernova~!

  • اظن ان الاخيره هي نار جهنم والله اعلم

  • الي جاي عن طريق تويتة مالك النجر يعطيني لايك

  • Thumbs up if Nejer sent you here

  • سبحاااااااانك

الله اكبر الله اكبر الله اكبر

    :"(

  • I loved it

so great and scary in the same time =)

سبحان الله وبحمده والله احجامهن مرعبة ="(

  • MY ANUS IS 51.118KM IN DIAMETER !?!?!?!?.. i call fake

  • And still people don't believe in God after they've seen this?

  • @Sjeweetzelluf hahahhaahahhahhaa this wont make me believe, didnt see a god only starzz and planetzz watn lullen zeg

  • And I thought the Ikea was big :(

  • Dumpert!

  • I dont get a headache bcause the size and thougts... But the music :P

  • someone told me that sirius is smaller than the sun

  • @jaxxrr Can you make this video (Energy vs Information Stars and Planets size video) to High Quality/High Definition or you make new one? :)

  • I had to stop the video...is this the boss level of a nintendo game or a science video? Turn off the crappy, unrelated music and maybe juts talk or something!

  • Venus: Why did you get to be bigger?

    Earth: Because

    1) I am able to support life

    2) You're stinky

    3) YOU ARE FRIKIN HOT!!!

  • The other day on National Geographic I read that it's fact that there are only four stars in the galaxy. And that what we see in the sky are simply reflections of light off of space water idling in the middle of the universe.

  • @rockonzeppelin now that, my friend, is bullcrap; just because you read it on National Geographic doesn't mean that it is true; NG probably just reported that some no-good scientist had a theory of what you sad; btw this vid is not about the universe; it's merely about our tiny solar system and the tiny galaxy (milky-way) that we live in; in this galaxy there are many other solar systems (planets + stars) and singular stars (and of course the mysterious galactocenter) and there are many galaxy's

  • How long would it take to fly around the largest star in a 747? I would guess a few hundred years...

  • @tek87 quoted from wikipedia at VY Canis Majoris page:

light would take more than 2.7 hours to travel around the star's circumference ergo:

    speed of light = 299 792 km / s = 1 079 251 200 km / h

    Boeing 747 = 920 km / h

    1 079 251 200 * 2.7 = 2 913 978 240 km circumference

    would take the plane 2 913 978 240 / 920 = 3 167 367 hours to go around that means

    3 167 367 / 24 =~ 131 973 days

    131 973 / 365 = 361 years

wow your almost right.. i expected it to take longer lol

  • @jaxxrr Thanks for going through the trouble to get this information. 300-400 is a few hundred years. I was thinking around 400. My guess was pretty vague so it was easy to be right.

  • @jaxxrr Try with the Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird?

  • @jaxxrr

this calculation is wrong, im sorry

vy canis majoris has a diameter of 3.063.000.000 km. (i.e. 3 billion km). Its circumference would be 3 billion times PI (3 billion times 3.14) = 9.42 billion km. A plane travelling with a speed of 900 km/h would take 9.420.000.000 / 900 = (about) 10.47 million hours, which is almost 1200 years

  • @Cruzzzzz1988 my bad.. i will inform the crew to take more fuel

  • @jaxxrr

    I lol'd.

  • @Cruzzzzz1988 Ever seen a plane traveling on surface

  • @LOLLIEGEEFMELOLLY Yes. Are you stupid?

  • @MrDjJDK plane has to fill up their fuel too

  • @LOLLIEGEEFMELOLLY A plane had to take off on a concrete road. So it drives and travels on the ground.

But your stupid. IT IS JUST FOR THE MATH. idiot

  • @MrDjJDK how would you place concrete around that star, u stupid?

  • @LOLLIEGEEFMELOLLY Ik weet al waarom jij op jouw niveau zit met denken

    Fryslaaaaan domme boer.

  • @jaxxrr more like 1100 years my friend.

  • Comment removed

  • @jaxxrr no it takes 1100 years

  • Comment removed

  • @tek87 It takes 1100 years to fly 1 round in a 747.

  • Why are some of the stars blue?

  • @Gretaolala Young stars, are the ones in blue colour, they become blue because they are very hot, some of them can reach 30.000 degrees. In order for you to have a prespective, our sun is currently burning at 6300 degrees, red stars like Betelgeuse are now at 3500, and blue stars like Rigel (Orion) and Spica(Virgo) are at temperatures between 20.000 and 30.000. The bad thing about these blue giant and hot stars is that they live 1000 times less than sun. And red giant tend to form black holes.

  • @Gretaolala The colors depends on the temerature

    blue= hottest

    red=coldest

  • LETS GO TO THE PISTOL STAR (=^~^=) b

  • Great video, I was shown this in a Physics lesson and came back to watch it again :) Really makes you think about how insignificant our solar system is compared to stars such as Betelgeuse and Antares... Thanks for uploading such an informative film, very entertaining when you have some spare time! :D

  • :)

  • I f we dont find a way to harness Sol's energy,we arent gonna be around much longer, anyway.

    Check out the video "HOME"

  • @souljaboy321000 & you know this because you watched a video on youtube, right?

  • you know already that VY canis majoris is the largest star humans have found but you could fit 1,000,000,000 suns inside that monster now that is scary

  • @souljaboy321000 in other words does he need to update his video everytime they find a new star?

  • i have to say, i dont know much about stars and the universe beyond what ive read.

i know about the workings of the universe, just not what they ahve found by name.

wonderfull presentation and discription. the music im not used to but i got into it fast.

    5/5.

  • ummm... ARE YOU SERIUUS!!??

  • tomorrow i will go to vv cephei for only 100 $

  • They forgot to edit in my cock at the end

  • @CrzayMazy you mean begin?

  • still the woman next door has ass bigger than v v cephei lol.

  • Very nice video!! Good job.

And everybody: please stop complaning about size! We know by now you got the biggest star! (that is you know what the biggest star is;)

  • Canis Majoris is bigger then VV Cephei.. shame its not in your movie. the rest is nicely presented.

  • alright... no one?

    ur anus BWAHAHAHA

  • 5/5 great vid.....inform your self

  • all the argueing about size of stars is such nonsence....can´t you see the message of this video....in my opinion this vid is great...inform yourself..illuminate your mind PEACE

  • u spelled iraq wrong.

also betelgeuse is the same size if not bigger than antares

and aldebaran is only a little bit bigger than arcturus

  • There seems to be a bit of a debate on which star is larger out of Betelgeuse and Antares can anyone give a final and correct answer. Also there is never one of these star comparisons with the famous Green Star Zubeneshamali (Beta Librae). Comon Zubi Baby!!!!

  • very very nice video

did you consider to remaster it to HD quality? and on that occasion you could update some new known stars

  • what about to remaster this very very nice video to some kind of HD quality (720p) and on this occasion update some new known stars

  • WOW

  • are those star colors authentic or just artists interpretation?

  • fuck teh stars and this video

  • U.S.A's Goverment dosn't wanna progress into Space because they wanna keep us right where we are, on Earth. So things wont get any more complicated. They wanna keep us blind and stupid to how much there actually is out there. Which there trying to find new ways to do every day. I dunnoi about other Governments though.

  • Why dose it say that Saturn is bigger?

  • for measurement, our moon, being strangely enough among the largest moons in our stellar system, is almost as big as mercury.

  • @imnazhole LOL...

  • Ебааать!Ё!!

  • i do feel small we are smaller than atoms beside the vv cephei and by the way biggest star is vy canis majoris

  • Also, don't forget kids, we are waaaay out from the center action of our own Milky Way Galaxy. we are the ugly girl at the prom set out with the trash on the sidewalk (actually, we are the only glad bag on the sidewalk).

    Anyone feel small yet?

  • I don't feel myself so small in front of these giants, but it would be fine if the author would post an update video with Canis Majoris and the other missing stars, with the same identical style and animation, like this one...

  • we are all tunnocks teacakes

  • We are like the size of GERMS compared to these ginormous stars!

  • the melky way is about 111111111118880 tims biger than canis magorus

  • @jacqueslewandowski How old are you?!

  • i dont no how small i em

  • i em small

  • yeh, ut even so the concept is nice :D

  • Smallest to Biggest: Dactyl, Ceres, Charon, Pluto, Eris, Mercury, Mars, Venus, Earth, Neptune, Uranus, Saturn, Jupiter, Sun, Sirius A, Polux, Arcturus, Aldebaran, Rigel, Betelguese, Antares, Pistol Star, Mu Cephei, V838 Montecitios, VV Cephei A Binary Star, Woh G64, V354 Cephei, VY Canis Majoris, Small Magellanic Cloud, Large Magellenic Cloud, Omega Centauri, Milky Way, Andromeda, The Universe.

  • Don't tell me, You left out the Crab Nebula.

  • Comment removed

  • wait... are you serious or are you joking...

  • I'm joking!! LOL I'm not that dumb xD

    Got ya!

  • uhhhh....like X-Ray telescopes, Infra-Red Telescopes, Light measures....we never went to mars but we all know it is much smaller than earth, and jupiter is HUGE!!

  • hubbley's telescope - sry my english bad!

  • Nice video, thanks. I was into astronomy, and being away from it for so long, watching this felt good.

    Thanks again.

  • you forgot woh g64 and vy canis majores

  • btw it's spelled "Iraq" not "Irak"

  • but there is more bigger than that, WOH G64 then the biggest body is the VY Canis Majoris. But it is not yet finished, there is more bigger than that. The Globular Cluster M3, but there is more bigger than that, the Omega Centauri Cluster and then came Large Magellanic Cloud, but there is more bigger than that, the Milky Way. nix size is subjective

  • I think he was only going uptill the stars, not the clusters, and specially not galaxies.

Not sure if he went upto the biggest star though, my astronomy is very rusty.

  • I would go for VV Cephei. I have searched it myself and found too many papers disputing the true distance to VY Canis Majoris. The lower distance gives lower luminosity and therefore lower radius. Averaged altogether, VY Canis Majoris is just a little over Betelgeuse and may have the same mass. VV Cephei on the other hand may be close to twice being more massive and lies at a farther distance.

  • In that case WOH G64 would be the largest (2000 times the sun radius) VV Cephei is no longer the largest

  • vv chepei isnt the largest star its vy canis majores

  • What's the name of the music ????

    BRASIL

  • humas r able to get free energy just from our magnetic field from our earth. search for tesla+free energy. its amazing.

    free ur mind

  • Salut jaxxrr =] I like your video!

Could you name the music at 3:51please?

    Thanks!

  • The track is James Holden & Thompson - Come To Me (Club Mix) and you can find it also in Sasha - Fundacion NYC awesomely mixed with the (last version) of the same track!! peace everywhere ;)

  • well end the monetary system or change it. thats the solution. mankind is to greede!

  • I liked very much of this video!

    Congratulations!

  • i love the Universe, the Sun, the Earth, Jupiter.. and all the things in there!

J'aime notre beau petit Soleil :)

  • VY Canis Majoris is 4kkk -.- .......and it will blow up in 5000 years :(

  • Maybe it already has ^^ We can never know... Or can we?

  • well...i think we would know...because we got telescopes...and plus the light from that star to us is like...idk 2 years or something....so after 2 years after it blows up we wouldn't see it's light anymore

  • falta vy canis majoris

  • the video is awesome overall though

  • btw Canis Majoris is the biggest, about 2000 Sun diameters

  • in other words I should update the vid everytime they find a new star ? :)

  • nah, but Canis Majoris has been known for a while, im a bit surprised u ignored it

  • vid was made in 2006 and data is from wikipedia :)

  • 2000 solar radii, this person messed up. It's radii not diameters

  • oh yeah, sry my english still cant be perfect, and logic neither

  • @Ajulaks its 200.000 sun diameters

  • wow if we had VV Cephei as our nearest star solar energy would be MUCH more attractive

  • also we would not exist :)

  • but if we were as far as neptune maybe we would survive. Even then VV Cephei would rise and fill half the sky

  • if it filled half the sky, we would be fried chicken

  • yeah, but VV Cephei is relatively colder than VY Canis Majoris, and even colder than some stars much smaller

  • yeah but then in 184 years you'd be extremely close to it instead of far.

  • @jaxxrr i dont think we wont exist, the distane is still 4.4 lightyears and a star like that isnt so big?

  • In 2006 it was? ;)

  • Pluto is not a Planet!!! ;-)

  • Comment removed

  • very nice i agree with these

  • Hey, its me again. I made a new 2009 updated version of the planets/stars size comparison. Take a look of it and feel free to do a 3D version of it =P

  • I;ve seen nixxxon18's video and it;s really worth watching trust me

  • este video siempre me a gustado

  • Wow, that really makes you think...

  • dud check this:

war = fight between different entities.. when one of them thinks they are right -> but this is lack of information actually.. if everyone would agree upon ONE set of rules (no religion and other different code to set us apart) we would be pretty boring but there would be no war

  • the ONE set of rules thing reminds me of Equilibrium, good film.

i admire what you are trying to do, but humanity will always ever know war, no matter what happens, until we eventually destroy ourselves, which is perhaps a good thing, do we deserve to live?

  • well if humans dont deserve to live then who does :) we're the best there is.. (as far as we know :) anyways the vid is called energy vs information also because check this -> the universe is full of energy and no information.. we must spread and change that.. and we have plenty of energy to feed upon.. we just didnt get THINGS STARTED !!! :)

  • nice video!

  • what the title of the vid is also trying to say is: the universe is full of energy but no information (intelligent life) elsewhere than earth.. so.. I hope we will change that and not go extinct...

  • this video make me think how smart we are...

  • Great video. It seems you made it but you got not much views, some other people uploaded also and got much more views than you. Maybe change the title to "planets and stars size" ?

  • I did that, thanks for the tip

  • Hey!!! great video!! :D

i like the song... can you tell me the name??? thanks ^^

  • Stakka & K Tee - Rubber Bullet xD

  • Am uitat sa ma semnez.

    Hey dude, Dorin here. :D

  • lol sup dude.. long time no see :)

  • At the time this video was made, VY Canis Majoris and WOH G64 sizes were not estimated. Therefore they are not in this video. :)

  • Fantastic vid mate, well done!

  • this music is good...

  • u are a fail

  • Sais the Failure.

  • The Music is AWESOME!

  • how far would we have to be if our star were sirius or larger where could life excist in a solar system with the larger stars dose any body know. One size doesn't fit all

  • pls tell me the name of this song pls

  • Read the author's notes, top right of page.

  • the sun and the moon both have a different names wherever you travel on this planet. who cares what the names are, lets get off this rock and start looking around out there, name the crap later

  • Some fairy is whispering to my ear that VY Canis Majoris is the largest of all known stars.

  • i luv the song

  • good vid! And why did u make the Pistol Star green? Theres no way a star can be green, its true colour is white/light blue

  • the sun diameter is right but it is not 342 times earth diameters it is 109 times earth diameter!

  • that vv-cephei seemes to be hot.

  • The comparison was awesome! But that text setting information over energy ... that's mystic from the time before the great Internet bubble in 2001 and the assumption that the Human Genome Project now had all the answers ready about human nature. Both turned out to be utterly wrong.

  • u suck

  • The largest star now is VY Canis Majoris

  • saturn is the best

  • if we go just halfway near the sun .. we burn up :)

  • It's hard to imagine just how much larger VV Cephei is compared to the Earth

  • great vid, thanks for posting.

    five stars (at least :D)

  • thx

  • is the word sun is the name of our star?

  • yes

  • Yes, the name of our star is "The Sun" in English. Very unimaginative, eh? ;D

It derives from the Latin name "Sol".

And that's where "Solar System" comes from - literally meaning "Sol's system".

Strictly, when people say "other solar systems out in space", this is wrong usage because only our star system is "the Solar System", as there is only one "Sol" and that's our Sun.

But enough people have come to say "other solar systems" and "other suns" that, though inaccurate, it's accepted.

  • Really, they are "other star systems" and "other stars". Star is the generic name, not "Sun". Which is a specific name for our own star.

Also, as such, "the Sun" is a proper noun (a specific name), as is also "the Earth" and "the Moon". So they should always really have a capital letter but pretty much nobody does that either.

I think people get confused because "earth" - as in soil or dirt - shouldn't have a capital letter. But "the Earth" - as in our planet - should.

  • Also, "moon" is a generic term for a satellite of a planet, while "the Moon" is the specific name of our moon.

This one can really confuse people but if you mean our Moon, it should be a capital letter. But if you mean any other moon or just the concept of moons in general, then it's a small letter.

  • Another thing that adds to the confusion is that certain derived words should not be capitalised - "sunlight", "moonlight", etc. - because "light" is the actual object of those words and that's a generic term.

Even though the Sun and the Moon should be capitalised, because they are specific names.

Yes, it's all very confusing, isn't it?

I guess that's why pretty much everyone - even, sometimes, some astronomers who really should know better - always get it wrong. ;D

  • love it
