awsome so he wants seattle to end up like BC ? he needs to research what happens when you drop your drug laws and have drugs out in the open !! we will ruin our city like Vancouver BC has!
We have American troops in Afghanistan growing heroin and the CIA smuggling cocaine into the country while forging relationships with crack dealers. America will never end the war on drugs because America is the worlds largest drug dealer.
Another officer was shot (in the head) in Washington state this week while dealing with a DUI situation. Thankfully he survived, just another testimony to the violence surrounding alcohol.
You must realize that the illegal drug trade also produces corruption in the police force. Where there is large amounts of untraceable cash there is corruption.
Before it is all over with our economy, created by the bangsters, we all might need a smoke of some marijuanna to cope with the great heist that all of us are experiencing in America.
weed will never, NEVER, be made legal, and in our day and age it's pathetic. but, the reason why it will stay illegal is also green. its called MONEY. and lots of it.
I'm part of a one-member group called TAP: Teetotalers Against Prohibition. We strongly agree with LEAP, and encourage you to speak with your family and friends about why drugs mustn't be kept in the black market.
i think instead of trying to catch weed growers, smokers, sellers the DEA and law needs to be out trying to find meth cookers, and cocaine cartels from cuba and south america-i mean a pot smoker causes not real problems, like the man said-so whats the problem-LEAGLIZE IT NOW,PEACE
Well the demand for marijuana does cause problems - a huge series of mass murders and disappearances all along the Mexico-US border and ridiculously powerful and violent drug cartels all over Mexico (and the US).
The only thing is...its precisely the fact that marijuana is illegal in the US that results in this situation in the first place - simply ending the "war on drugs" would end the very real drug war being fought with bullets just over the border...not to mention Columbia, Ecuador, et al
If I want to put drugs into my body, I take the risks of consequences. Who the fuck are they to make me a criminal for making a personal decision that effects my own body? They spend billions of our money on a never ending war that has zero chance of being won. They want it that way.
They want us all buying the deadly drugs they approve - so THEY can make money. FUCK THEM!
Sirscutter, That's the thinking that gets us in trouble, the government is here to serve... not dictate. The waste of time is the taxes you pay to fight an imaginary war and think you can stop something by force. Remember Panama? HMMM... We still have drugs. Most of the drugs are worse than cocaine and produced in this country. On top of that is medications which must be synthetic because no natural substance can be patented. Marijuana is NATURAL. HMMM.... Pharmaceutical companies..Lovely
I did not mean to imply that I support paying taxes by any means. Taxes are taken by force and it's silly to think that the money is used with every individual considered. It's impossible. I did not mean to imply I am for the drug war, I'm trying to say how government is a flawed system to begin with. I agree with personal freedom and the right to put whatever you want into your body. It's just such a sad state currently that I've become jaded to the attempts to stop the government within itself
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
don't get me wrong though, i appreciate what he's doing and I like that there's organizations like LEAP out there, but it's sometimes a waste of time to try to decrease the level of gov't
This gut blames who? Us? Forget him! The war on drugs will never be over as long as there's a government in charge. Good luck changing the system within the system... never worked and never will.
No, I don't. I'm not part of the government, I didn't have any part in creating the "laws" of the government, and I do not feel it is in favor of me at all.
But I guess "the people" means the majority, right? Forget individualism. Nationalism is the answer? Bah.
(by the way, this comment wasn't directed at you, just kinda rhetorical if that wasn't obvious.)
I know I was being cynical in my first comment, but trust me, there was a hidden message of solution in my comment.
I suppose. There's still problems with majority ruling over the rest. Why's it so accepted to let a large group of people choose a person/party to rule everyone's life? Why not give individualism a chance? I could vote for someone who I would let represent me, but why would I want that when I know no one else has the same exact values as him. How is it possible for another person to know what's best for me?
They don't, and that is the biggest problem. But we all need to understand that with out a majority rule, just laws are fewer and farther between. Individual's rights should always be upheld to the highest degree, as long as they don't endanger others.
If any democracy is not carefully legislated to avoid an uneven distribution of political power with balances such as the separation of powers, then a branch of the system of rule is able to accumulate power in a way that is harmful to democracy itself. The "majority rule" is often described as a characteristic feature of democracy, but without responsible government it is possible for the rights of a minority to be abused by the "tyranny of the majority". Which is what we see happing now!
I would have to make the statement that WITH a majority rule just statues are almost non-existent. Individual's rights are not upheld and I'm not free to live my life the way that makes me happy even though I don't harm/steal/hurt/damage anyone else or their property.
We must always continue fighting to keep our basic rights. Things get messy, and our rights get caught in the crossfire. Some people really do believe in authoritarianism and the rule of others. Most find themselves in that position when dealing with people of possible outcomes which have or could harm others. It is tricky to demand for rights, because that alone constitutes a majority ruling, CHECKS AND BALANCES need to be upheld...People are too quick in their diagnoses, then we pay for it.
I disagree that rule-by-majority results in more just laws - its just like Thoreau said - they result in more EXPEDIENT laws....never laws that are more JUST. We must learn to see the difference after all this time!
Yes, you are correct. Why? Because it is impossible for everyone to care about the same thing and in the same way. Self-interest is the core driving tool for almost everything, even fight or flight instincts. Caring for another could be of self-interest to one person why it will not be for another.
