We actually had a very similar experience. My parent's reactions were almost the same. My dad just kind of sat there, nodded his head, and said "okay". My mom never said it, but she alluded to the idea that it was a phase. Then, after I told them, by Dad came upstairs, gave me a big hug and said "You're my son, and I still love you, no matter what".
I'm happy that you had a good reaction, not all can. I have a guy in my class that can't tell his parents as they're wicked conservative.
I love the idea of coming out on camera. That way people can see the real deal when thinking about how they'll do it instead of listening to a coming out story.
I love how your dad is just kicking back saying "It's okay." Your dad took it way better than my dad is going to take it. My mom I'm sure will be okay but my dad will flip for a while asking questions like your mom.
I've been watching a Sh*t load of smallville and you are Chloe........
On a side note ...... this was a very dramatic video ....... :O , I feel good for you because you can now be yourself around your parents ohhhhhh also linked to smallville cos clark can't be himself around people .... ohhhhhhhh lol , im being a dick now
That went a lot like mine, I chose a day, not like a specific date, just "today's the day" and I waited all evening til just before i was about to leave to go home to my house and then got all emotional just like that and blurted it out amongst tears. My dad told me he loves me and then went for a bath and my mum was like "yeah I knew" and the weight was lifted like IMMEDIATELY :)
wow. that takes real guts to be able to come out to both of your parents at the same time! i have so much respect for you. i wish i could come out to my parents right now but..............ima bit of a coward . but back to the point i have hella respect!!!!!
I just want to say GOOD FOR YOU GIRL! Being true to yourself is the number one! I came out to my parents a couple years ago and they are still not supportive, luckily I have amazing friends and womyn in my life who are my heroes and mentors. If you ever need any supportive words or have any questions, hit me up. I dont want to play into the stereotypes, but during some of my hardest times, music helped me out - Ani Difranco, Brandi Carlile, Angelique Kidjo, Melissa Etheridge - all lesbians.
Ure very lucky! My mum sorta knows that I'm gay, I mean 2 years ago I hinted at it and cos of her I'm bk in the closet only with her and the rest of my family! She threatens to kick me out if ever I come out nd that she ll never accept me as her daughter! Everyday she just drills with preaches!(she s bloody too religious)! I also hv no support watsoever from my dad! :(
My heart goes out for you hon. <3 Your parents love you always no matter what. I'm waiting for college as well to come out to my dad because I KNOW he'll kick me out of the house anyways. My mom already knows and she wouldn't talk to me for a good 2 months until she decided it was just a "phase".
This is a really sweet video. :-) I didn't get a chance to officially come out to my parents. One of my friend's parents called my parents and told them.
I LOVE this video! :) I decided to wait until I was a little older too to come out so I'd be taken more seriously. I came out to my parents like a year ago during my senior year of high school. Watching the beginning of your video and right before you told them, I could tell exactly how you were feeling because I had the same pang of fear in my stomach! It might be/have been a little hard for your parents but it's so clear how much they love you! GOOD FOR YOU! :)
I got really emotional when I told my mother, but after a couple of days I could really see how it strengthened our relationship. My dad actually was really really suprisingly calm when he found out ( I'm a guy by the way ). Congratulation to you though. It's a very hard thing to do. Those 2 words were the hardest I had ever admitted
So typical! One parent is like ok whatever and the other is having a meltdown. Lol at your mom answering the phone... WHERE ARE YOUR PARENTS FROM?!?!!??
You are such an inspiration! I was crying in moments during the video, it really hit home. I am so proud for you and you seem to be an amazing and humble person. Wishing you all the best and thanks from the bottom of my soul. Love all the way from Australia.
Wow this is kind of exactly like how I came out...well except my mom snooped on my computer. But yeah thats how the conversation with my parents went. Congratulations! Oh and my dad is Croatian so I especially loved the shirt your dad was wearing :)
wow... even i was feeling nervous for you. Congrats! hope your family's fine with you being gay now :) ... your mum didn't look too happy in the video
at 9:50 i know its not like as bad but i know how you feel cause i just told my sister im gay before anyone else in my family while she was drivin me to my mom's house and it was like a 15 or 20 minute drive and i was shakin when i got to my mom's and could barley get my shoes off, she was cool with it she said "i like guys too" and started talkin about her new boyfriend and asked if i thought he was cute... GOD it was awkward! glad she was that cool about it :D
Best coming out video ever! You even used the " How did you know you were straight." Watching this video brought back so many memories of coming out, so proud of all my gays when I see this stuff!!
Its such a weight lifted, isn't it? My parents thought it was a "phase" also. Four years later.......I'm still gay. Lol. The first few months after I told them I was gay was really awkward, but it eventually becomes a more comfortable topic.
I love how you mum goes to get the phone haha, and its good they seem interested and ask questions about it, thanks for posting this, it gives me courage :) x
My coming out was a bit stupid - I sent an overly dramatic email to my parents before I went to school, and when I came home my parents were freaked out not that I was gay, but that I was going commit suicide or something since my email was way over the top.

i feel sorry for your parents as a parent my self i would feel like a failure in my role as a parent just as if my kids did drugs or drank what ever it must feel terrible now im not saying i wouldnt love my kids but i would be dissapointed
@BREADSCATAHOULAS Being gay is independent of parenting. I'm sure environment has SOME impact, but I know for me, I've been gay since 1993! I can't imagine any way my parents could have raised me better. I love them both very much & they love me regardless of who I'm sexually & emotionally attracted to. Disappointment is a natural reaction, but who someone loves is so out of your control. And hey, we're talking about love here, disappointment & feeling like a failure plus love is NOT a good mix!
I feel sorry for you. Not everyone thinks the way that you do. Granted, when I told my mother I was gay she was upset. But she still loves me. My family does as well. I feel sorry for people that have calling gays disappointments.
Congrats on your coming out. Its hard, but like the slogan goes... It gets better.
When I told my mom I was gay she went crazy. Cried and said it was just a phase. Its been 4 years since I've told her... Yiup, still gay. My mom got over it and loves me. My family is very supportive! After I told everyone, I felt relieved.
So you think that if your kids use drugs and drank alot, its same to be gay? I dont understand why you should be dissapointed its his/her own life. And if he/she is happy to be gay its great. The importent are that they are happy not what they are gay! Ihave a lot of gay friends and I dont care if they are gay, I only want them to be happy :)
@BREADSCATAHOULAS HEY FUCK YOU MY DAD ABUSED ME FOR A SHITLOAD FOR BEING GAY I WOULDN'T CHOOSE TO BE GAY IF IT WAS A CHOICE CAUSE OF ALL THE BULLSHIT GAYS ARE FORCED TO GO THROUGH.
This is beautiful. Hey, you go to UCLA? That's cool, you're like 10 minutes from my house! Haha. This was very brave of you, and I'm glad we got to share the experience with you.
Oh man :( I just about cried. I was hoping someone would've given you a hug when you started crying, but I'm glad your dad finally gave you one later :,)
Great Job! Your family did just the right thing. It is hard to put this kind of news in perspective immediately. They asked a few questions and did not over react. After taking time to process, they told you the most important thing. They love you and it does not matter what your sexuality is. Ours hats are off to you and your family.
You should be so proud of yourself for doing that! Stay strong don't let people tell you you're not perfect the way you are. Greetings from Sweden! :)
@CityTooCity ahaha yeah I watched your coming out pt.1 vid (whatever happened to pt.2 btw??) and I totally copied your line "how do you know you're straight?" : ) Haha thanks!
@lucklyclover58 DONT BE SCARED! I havent came out either but a lot of my friends have and they all said just be yourself and if they have a problem with it then screw them. Im only 14 so i am going to do it next school summer which is in like 7 months so when i go into high school i will be okay. :). Just be yourself.
@lucklyclover58 YOU CAN DO IT. And it's so true that once you do, you feel so much better. Scared shitless is exactly how I felt in case you couldn't tell. I'm certainly no expert, but if you EVER need any help/advice/positive thinking please let me know!
wow this vid is awesome :D ,major props to you for having the courage to come out to your parents and congrats ^_^ i'm glad to see that your parents are pretty accepting of it, i'm 17 and starting senior year of high school and i have no clue when i want to come out to my folks ahh lol
@DavoJade Oh boy! Senior yearrr. Do you have any idea how your parents would react? Are you out to friends? Feel free to message me if you want! It definitely takes a lot of planning (esp. if you plan on catching it on film!). oh, and a LOT of GUTS. But it's been two days now, and it's starting to feel a bit better. : )
@toGOtoOuterSpace My parents probably wouldn't take it too well. I dont think they'd go as far as shunning me Lol but my relationship with my parents might go down hill :/ They were born and raised in China so they have like a more traditional/stricter attitude towards these things. I'm like part of the first generation in America in my family haha. And yeah I'm out to some close friends :) and thanks! :D I'll be sure to keep your offer in mind =]
@DavoJade Totally understandable. Definitely consider telling them when you're financially independent and on your own. It's 100% up to you. And cool! I'm first gen American too. (My parents are from Croatia.)
@toGOtoOuterSpace Good idea :] I probably will tell them when I'm financially independent. Awesome :D WOO to us and other first generation Americans lol =)

@lucklyclover58 YOU CAN DO IT. And it's so true that once you do, you feel so much better. Scared shitless is exactly how I felt in case you couldn't tell. I'm certainly no expert, but if you EVER need any help/advice/positive thinking please let me know!
