This is very slow paced compared to other recordings of this I have heard. I have heard great things about Vickers and his Otello and he does not disappoint. Neither does Gobbi. That being said, my favorite Otello will always be Mario Del Monaco. My personal favorite tenor has and always will be Giuseppe Di Stefano. He did Otello in Pasadena and had no business doing it, even though he had Gobbi with him.

Gobbi spectacularly flat, conducting unbelievably bad. Vickers does a great job.

Don't buy this record, Rysanek is worse than the strings and Gobbi put together....

This was recorded before Vickers had sung Otello on stage. Later in his career, he asserted that the orchestra for this recording was terrible, and therefore he and the other leading singers had to re-record their parts past the point where their by-now-exhausted voices retained beauty --
