  • How did you record this? Direct input or did you record it with a mic (amp)?

  • these guitars are meant to run the acoustic line through an acoustic amp then it sounds even better BUT this is a pretty sound u r getting man. Did you know you can get a panning volum pedal and have your electric sounds fade and pan to acoustic with your foot it is so cool you can be playing lead and slowly use volum pedal and it fades elec. to acoustic very cool

  • Fantastic tone! XDDD

  • lol I can hear the voiceover.. I hear voices in my head. The war inside my head.

  • has anyone compared the piezo system of the jpm to the parker fly? im curious to know if the fly can match up to this.

  • Wow... Such a beatiful sound...

  • suddenly ii ask myself, is my acoustic guitar acoustiic?

  • If you use the pezio a lot, the LR baggs paracoustic DI box REALLY helps bring out the best in the JP6's pezio system! Check my video response if you wanna hear it.

  • omg

  • Beautiful composition. I had to learn it, is it yours? The B minor with the A flat bass note is interesting, I hadn't tried that one before. Also, the peizo sounds amazing. Nice job.

  • @snakewheels Nope, this is a part from "Finally Free" by Dream Theater. Thanks for the comment!

  • Close your eyes... If you didnt know what guitar it was you'd say it was an acustic...

  • what is a piezo? is it a pickup or is it a bridge?

  • beautiful.

  • You are once again surrounded by a bright light..

  • The amp makes all the difference with a piezo. Marshalls are just generally awesome amps but the fact that piezos respond so well with them makes them that much more valuable and totally worth the investment. I wonder how a piezo would sound through my VOX VT....

  • I am absolutely in love with that tone.

  • Wow your Piezo tone sounds so clear, how did you make your Piezo sound like that? I have the JP6 in Mystic Dream finish with the Piezo but i can't get it to sound as clear as that. I noticed the little blerp that said your Piezo setting is set to full bass and treble but when i set mine like that, the notes have this ugly cling sound to them when i play, especially if i strum a chord or play harder on the strings. Did you have that same problem? Where do you have the mix pot set at?

  • If I strum too hard, I get that awful "cling" sound when I play it through my Spider II. It sounds great through my buddy's Marshall JVM though. I think it just depends on the amp.

  • @IronDan1 You shouldn't play it through a regular guitar amplifier, it messes up the sound. It should be connected directly to a PA, an acoustic guitar amp or for example your computer.

  • @DamageInc038 Its all in your amp. Tubes will sound much clearer and resonate Piezo pups better than solid-state. There are some exceptions, but that is the general rule.

  • AWESOME PLAYING!

  • I was going to get a MMJP, but I wanted to get a 7 string, and those were more, and I liked the piezo, but those were more, and my budget was 1600, so I'm not getting one. But I regret it a little, but I am getting a custom hand made guitar with a dimarzio blaze and air norton in it with a kahler so I'm excited. Today thought, I got to play the Sterling JP50, and it is hands down the best $500 guitar in the world. Even the pickups sound fantastic for Sterling pickups!!! And trem is godly.

  • I would kill for that guitar

  • Oh my god!! What's that song? Amazing! And the piezo sounds just glorious!

  • @varholl it's the final part from the Dream Theater's Album "Metropolis pt. 2"

  • @varholl finally free-dream theater

  • Hey man great sound, quick question though: I played one of these guitars recently, the JPx, and while testing out the piezo on it i had some concerns. I noticed that when ever I tried to strum harder like u would on an acoustic, or come off of a lick and kinda accent the last note, it would make a loud almost popping sound through the amp. So is this something you can only play lightly? It seems like u have to approach the playing less agressively than you would on an acoustic, right?

  • Yeah, I think it just depends on the amp. I get awful "popping" sounds when I play it on my Spider II, but it sounds great through my buddy's Marshall JVM.

  • Sounds amazing. Wish I could afford one.

  • I'm seriously considering selling all my guitars and getting a fully loaded MM JP!

  • I hate you for owning that guitar! :D Lovely sound <3

  • great sound, I had an ibanez with piezo but never sounded as good as this one.

    good playing also,

    thanks

  • Thanks dude. gives me an overview before i actually get a JP6. Nice demos too man, awesome.

  • my luthier says this guitar has the best most natural sounding piezo. better then a parker. who makes the piezo of this ernie ball?

  • I could listen to this clip forever.

  • i think its better than parkers fly's piezo..

  • I am jealous.... great tone!

  • Wow.

    Is nice sound .

    musicman Jp6 Right!

  • i was singing along... AND AFFFTERR WEREEE GONEEEE... THE SPIRITTT CARRRIESSS ONNNNNNN

  • whats a piezo?

  • I need info on how to get this guitar in Australia!!! This demo has totally sold me!

  • you're once again surrounded by a brilliant white light...

  • you sick bastard:P great playing, in this vid and the demo's of the bridge and neck pick-ups;)

btw, thanks for making me want this guitar really bad:P

  • haha, thanks!

  • @IronDan1 Man, you should work for Music Man! You just sold another guitar!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! lol!

  • @666guitarfreak exactly my thoughts :P

  • Safe in the light that surrounds me...

  • this sounds amazing! could you please link some tabs if possible!

  • @celinesaz

check the tabs for the song finally free

  • Safe in the light that surrounds mehhhhh. Awesome tone...thats so cool that it has a piezo in it.

  • absolutely stunning acoustic sound. I am going to start saving my $.

    Bruce

  • the sound is amazing

  • On which amp (or preamp) are you plugged ? is it your electric guitar amp ?

  • I used the direct out of a Line 6 Spider II

  • Just beautiful :D

  • how would that sound with distortion?

  • I don't usually use distortion with the piezo. It doesn't sound too good with it.

  • nice work on finaly free

  • Dan,

Love your playing, I always come back to them for reference thanks for taking the time to share.

On the piezo, does it go from that to some electronics of some kind to make it work or is it straight from the piezo to the cable out to the amp?

  • Thanks McKinoza! It works straight from the piezo, to the cable, and out to the amp.

  • Holy shit that sounds great lol. I didn't expect it to sound that authentic. Wow.

  • SO that is just the peizo pickup selection going through your electric guitar amp?

  • Yes, and it was recorded using the direct out.

  • it sure is..=)

  • Isn't this the intro for Finally Free?

  • Can someone please explain to me what the "Piezo" is...I'm looking to buy a JP7 soon and want to know if I should definately add it in..thanks.

  • Yes, you should definitely add it in. It's a « piezo-electric micro », a crystal that allows you to get a very clean sound. You can use either the magnetic micros or the piezo to play (there is a 3-way piezo/magnetic selector on the guitar).

  • Alright cool thanks a lot I ordered my guitar already but I put it in just to be sure so that I won't regret it later lol. It seems a lot of people have it up on youtube and I tried it out and it sounds beautiful

  • Defiantly add it!!!!! I have played a JP6 with and without one before and the piezo is AMAZING! It give you the most amazing clean sound ever! It seems like a wast when you hear it on the internet and the price difference, but it's defiantly worth it!

  • Piezo electronic devices are things that produce electric current from pressure, eg. sound pressure. Piezo microfone therefore "senses" the sound spectrum on eg. your bridge that the strings create when they vibrate. Magnetic pickups create electric signal from the movement of magnetic materials in their field. The main difference between magnetic and piezo is that piezo recreates the sound better while magnetic pickup has less background noise, because it only picks up magnetic movement.

  • Meant that piezo recreates the sound more accurately because it pics up more of the spectrum of the sound.

  • can't get enough of it

  • so that's why the guitar on a part of Live in Budokan(Dream Theater) sounds like that...

  • i could get that sound just with my zoom g2.1u. still, i want one of JP's guitars so bad :p

  • I have jp6(mystic) but without piezo:( Do I really loose something?

  • hell yeah.why did you bought jp6 in best color finish without piezo :(

  • Could you PLEASE let me know how you have set up your amp, I mean the balance between bass, middle and treble? I have kind of a "weak" 15 Watt VOX amp and on this amp the piezo just won't sound like it is supposed to...

    Many thanks,

    JS

  • i know what you mean, take off ALOT of treble enough that you can strum hard and it'll sound alright put your bass at about 4 or so, and have lots of mids

  • Thanks a lot, I'll try this tonight...

  • Holy lord... I clicked on this video. Went to another tab, and that started playing and I was like why is it playing dream theater? lol.

  • oh my god just incredible :O

  • open your eyes nicolas good really good

  • @snakenitefly "whoa" "boom boom" :(

  • Thanks for taking the time to make a short but informative video clip for people like myself who does not know ALL the gear available. I'm a huge Dream Theater fan and I've SEEN Petrucci switch "something" and have his guitar sound like an acoustic. Now I know eaxctly the technology he is using as there are TONS of Acoustic Sim pedals, etc. available. Thanks again for the demo vid.

  • No problem! I'm glad this has been helpful.

  • beautyful

  • oh my god!

  • I know it is truely amazing

  • give me your guitar

  • Sounds pretty nice.

  • where did you have the piezo attached?

  • nice letter kill shirt, good band, sweet ass guitar too

  • Music man

    Finally Free

    Dream Theater Kick Ass

  • great stuff! kinda like the Steinberger I saw on GuitarSend! love it

  • i waaaaaaaant!! how much was yours?

  • sounds kinda like the fountain of lamneth by rush

  • regression's chords?

  • this guitar is just awesome.

  • mmm is all jaja

  • Odd body shape, but fantastic sound. Great playing there.

  • it's a slightly altered Strat, it doesn't get anymore standard than that

  • That guitar costs like hell!

  • Very impressive !

I'd like to buy a Music Man Petrucci in a few months. But I'm a little confused, there are so many different models. I'd like to get a 7 strings with piezo. On the Music Man website, there are a few different models, and they are all Ernie Ball. But you saif yours wasn't ?

I would be very pleased if you could help me out with this. I'd really like to get a MM JP.

BTW, very nice cover of Finally Free. Scenes is my favourite album ever. Dream Theater are the bests.

  • Thanks! I'm not sure what you mean. This is an Ernie Ball Petrucci Music Man, and It's the 6 string model.

  • Yeah, I figured it out. I was confusing it with the Ball Familiy Reserve guitars.

I will get an EB MM Petrucci with 7 strings and a piezo (Pearl Redburst too, it's beautiful).

Thanks again for the little clip. It shows very well how great it sounds with a piezo.

  • greaat tone guy!! very very nice sound ... HOW MUSCH İS İT?

  • the MM JP is very expensive. There are about 10 different models. European prices: 2100€ - 3900 €. Ive got a strat loaded with the diMarzio D Sonic (its the bridge pickup of some of the jp models) 'cause this guitar seemed to expensive to me xD

I hope I could help you, mate ;)

  • i think its too expensive for everywone..XD

  • Is that an original piece? It's really good.

  • No its Finally Free by Dream Theater

  • Great playing, great tone.

  • Thanks!

  • Very nice playing. Sounds great!

  • Thanks!

  • holy crap I am definitely buying a EBMM JP 6 with a piezo after that video. I've never heard a guitar sound so great clean. And the humbucker tone isn't so bad either...

  • Thanks! It's a great guitar.

  • That must be the best clean sound i've heard.

  • r u friken rich ! i wish i haz that guitar(sad face) =(

  • No, haha. I've been saving up for this guitar for a while.

  • Crazy awesome sound! I have my Petrucci on the way as we speak!!

  • Really nice sound you got there.

  • so the piezo pickup has no addition to the distortion sound all it does is just acoustic? please let me know becaus i'm dying for a guitar like this and i need to know if i should save more money for the piezo cuz i usually play distortion

  • I think it's definitely worth it to get the piezo, but if you mainly play with distortion then maybe not. It's up to you really. You can use distortion with the piezo, but it sounds kinda weird.

  • Comment removed

  • how do peizos sound with distortion?

  • I wouldn't suggest using a distortion, gain, or overdrive with a piezo, it probably sounds like shit. That would be like putting a pickup in an acoustic and playing it with distortion.

  • It sounds quite nice, actually, especially if you can mix it with the magnetic pickups. I generally like to have the tone down on the magnetic pickups (muddy) with the piezo on. It gives you a thick, very rich sound.

If I had a microphone to demonstrate, I would. It sounds nothing like an acoustic playing with distortion.

  • This is likely the best piezo test I've seen on youtube.

Great song choice to demonstrate as well.

These are really under-rated guitars. People always pass them up at the local music store (there are 2 JP guitars- used to be 3- as well as other MM guitars).

Can you make some more vids of piezo/normal magnetic?

  • nice sound, its like an acoustic

  • great sound...

    i luv it!! :)

  • sounds great! very rich in tone.

  • Hi ! Great sound ! What is the Amp / effects you use with it ? I've got a JP too, but i still did not find how to make it ring that way ....

  • Thanks! I'm just using lots of reverb on a Line 6 Spider II combo. I'm also recording direct here.

  • Is this a song you made up or a song by an artist? it sounds nice :)

  • Thanks! The song I'm playing is the intro to "Finally Free" by Dream Theater.

  • Cool I've never heard it.

    I'll check it out.

    Thanks.

  • Thanks for the demo....very considerate. Also, nice playing!

  • How sensetive are the knobbies affecting piezo?

  • They aren't sensitive at all. The EQ knobs (mix, bass, and treble) for the piezo are on the back of the guitar and are tweaked using a screwdriver.

  • Thanks for the info!

  • this will be my next guitar! now time to save 2 grand!

  • Now i feel like buying that guitar...

  • Crisp, clean, great!

  • best....clean....ever...

  • dude seriously that sounds awesome

  • Sounds amazing. wow.

  • Great tone! Thanks for the piezo demo.

  • wow, wonderfull.. very very nice man :)

  • You are once again surrounded by a brilliant, white light... :P

    Nice tone!

  • haha!

  • if i die tomorrooow /o/

  • Fuck, i cant believe, ur recording on Spider and ur tone is sick... I was testing spider some time ago and i wasnt delighted. U sound almost like Petrucci. ;)

  • Wait! He "does" sound like Petrucci! =O

  • lol

  • the most beautiful clean tone i've ever seen

  • THAT WAS SICCKKKKKK

  • I love this!

  • I've never heard a sound like this...wonderful!!

  • i was waiting for the strings to come in the entire time, but they didn't =(

  • DAMN ur good. how much was the guitar?

  • perfect

  • wow this guiytar sounds REALLY nice good work!

  • Thanks!

  • is the piezo p/u on the bridge? or can you put it to the middle position?

  • Yes, the piezo crystals are found on the bridge. As far as I know, that's the only place you can put them.

  • what 's your amp???if u use it ...

  • I use a Line 6 Spider II for recording these videos. That's about it though. It's not great for live use.

  • woohoo nice.

  • Is "Scenes from a Memory" your favorite Dream Theater Album? I know it's gotta be 1 or 2 for me.

  • Man, that's a tough one! I'd say it's definitely in my top 3, but lately I've been listening to "Six Degrees" a lot. It's so hard to pick a favorite DT album.

  • Images all the way man. Truly a work of genius! Then scenes then Train.

  • Yeah, if I had to pick one it would probably be "Images".

  • Scenes is just so perfect 4 me

  • is that a bill lawrence hum?
