these guitars are meant to run the acoustic line through an acoustic amp then it sounds even better BUT this is a pretty sound u r getting man. Did you know you can get a panning volum pedal and have your electric sounds fade and pan to acoustic with your foot it is so cool you can be playing lead and slowly use volum pedal and it fades elec. to acoustic very cool
If you use the pezio a lot, the LR baggs paracoustic DI box REALLY helps bring out the best in the JP6's pezio system! Check my video response if you wanna hear it.
Beautiful composition. I had to learn it, is it yours? The B minor with the A flat bass note is interesting, I hadn't tried that one before. Also, the peizo sounds amazing. Nice job.
The amp makes all the difference with a piezo. Marshalls are just generally awesome amps but the fact that piezos respond so well with them makes them that much more valuable and totally worth the investment. I wonder how a piezo would sound through my VOX VT....
Wow your Piezo tone sounds so clear, how did you make your Piezo sound like that? I have the JP6 in Mystic Dream finish with the Piezo but i can't get it to sound as clear as that. I noticed the little blerp that said your Piezo setting is set to full bass and treble but when i set mine like that, the notes have this ugly cling sound to them when i play, especially if i strum a chord or play harder on the strings. Did you have that same problem? Where do you have the mix pot set at?
If I strum too hard, I get that awful "cling" sound when I play it through my Spider II. It sounds great through my buddy's Marshall JVM though. I think it just depends on the amp.
@IronDan1 You shouldn't play it through a regular guitar amplifier, it messes up the sound. It should be connected directly to a PA, an acoustic guitar amp or for example your computer.
@DamageInc038 Its all in your amp. Tubes will sound much clearer and resonate Piezo pups better than solid-state. There are some exceptions, but that is the general rule.
I was going to get a MMJP, but I wanted to get a 7 string, and those were more, and I liked the piezo, but those were more, and my budget was 1600, so I'm not getting one. But I regret it a little, but I am getting a custom hand made guitar with a dimarzio blaze and air norton in it with a kahler so I'm excited. Today thought, I got to play the Sterling JP50, and it is hands down the best $500 guitar in the world. Even the pickups sound fantastic for Sterling pickups!!! And trem is godly.
Hey man great sound, quick question though: I played one of these guitars recently, the JPx, and while testing out the piezo on it i had some concerns. I noticed that when ever I tried to strum harder like u would on an acoustic, or come off of a lick and kinda accent the last note, it would make a loud almost popping sound through the amp. So is this something you can only play lightly? It seems like u have to approach the playing less agressively than you would on an acoustic, right?
Yeah, I think it just depends on the amp. I get awful "popping" sounds when I play it on my Spider II, but it sounds great through my buddy's Marshall JVM.
Yes, you should definitely add it in. It's a « piezo-electric micro », a crystal that allows you to get a very clean sound. You can use either the magnetic micros or the piezo to play (there is a 3-way piezo/magnetic selector on the guitar).
Alright cool thanks a lot I ordered my guitar already but I put it in just to be sure so that I won't regret it later lol. It seems a lot of people have it up on youtube and I tried it out and it sounds beautiful
Defiantly add it!!!!! I have played a JP6 with and without one before and the piezo is AMAZING! It give you the most amazing clean sound ever! It seems like a wast when you hear it on the internet and the price difference, but it's defiantly worth it!
Piezo electronic devices are things that produce electric current from pressure, eg. sound pressure. Piezo microfone therefore "senses" the sound spectrum on eg. your bridge that the strings create when they vibrate. Magnetic pickups create electric signal from the movement of magnetic materials in their field. The main difference between magnetic and piezo is that piezo recreates the sound better while magnetic pickup has less background noise, because it only picks up magnetic movement.
Could you PLEASE let me know how you have set up your amp, I mean the balance between bass, middle and treble? I have kind of a "weak" 15 Watt VOX amp and on this amp the piezo just won't sound like it is supposed to...
i know what you mean, take off ALOT of treble enough that you can strum hard and it'll sound alright put your bass at about 4 or so, and have lots of mids
Thanks for taking the time to make a short but informative video clip for people like myself who does not know ALL the gear available. I'm a huge Dream Theater fan and I've SEEN Petrucci switch "something" and have his guitar sound like an acoustic. Now I know eaxctly the technology he is using as there are TONS of Acoustic Sim pedals, etc. available. Thanks again for the demo vid.
I'd like to buy a Music Man Petrucci in a few months. But I'm a little confused, there are so many different models. I'd like to get a 7 strings with piezo. On the Music Man website, there are a few different models, and they are all Ernie Ball. But you saif yours wasn't ?

BTW, very nice cover of Finally Free. Scenes is my favourite album ever. Dream Theater are the bests.
the MM JP is very expensive. There are about 10 different models. European prices: 2100€ - 3900 €. Ive got a strat loaded with the diMarzio D Sonic (its the bridge pickup of some of the jp models) 'cause this guitar seemed to expensive to me xD
holy crap I am definitely buying a EBMM JP 6 with a piezo after that video. I've never heard a guitar sound so great clean. And the humbucker tone isn't so bad either...
so the piezo pickup has no addition to the distortion sound all it does is just acoustic? please let me know becaus i'm dying for a guitar like this and i need to know if i should save more money for the piezo cuz i usually play distortion
I think it's definitely worth it to get the piezo, but if you mainly play with distortion then maybe not. It's up to you really. You can use distortion with the piezo, but it sounds kinda weird.
I wouldn't suggest using a distortion, gain, or overdrive with a piezo, it probably sounds like shit. That would be like putting a pickup in an acoustic and playing it with distortion.
It sounds quite nice, actually, especially if you can mix it with the magnetic pickups. I generally like to have the tone down on the magnetic pickups (muddy) with the piezo on. It gives you a thick, very rich sound.

This is likely the best piezo test I've seen on youtube.
