  • I love Levon Helms voice and his wonderful drumming .. what a band !

  • You must watch "The Last Waltz" !!! The ultimate rock movie. It doesn't get any better than this!!! "You must play this really loud"

  • hell yeah, mavis pops and the band

  • My guess this is around 1969 my the age of the faces of Mavis, Pops, and the Band. Thanks for posting this treasure.

  • @goldenthunders This is from the 1976 farewell concert of The Band......"The Last Waltz"

  • First time I saw this (in movie theater), I sat transfixed. Every time I watch this, I feel the same. Just wow.

  • Mavis and Roebuck rule.

  • one of the greatest performances in the history of rock.

  • awesome collaboration...robertson wrote it..Levon, Mavis for Carmen, Pops for Annabelle, Danko for crazy Chester..( love his arm movements) and Scorses and Chapman for their cinematography..notice the moons behind the musicians...it all came together so beautifully it almost hurts...

  • @iangcunningham

I'm sorry I can only give you one thumbs-up!

  • With all the talk about the music, it's worth noting the camerawork. Scorsese + Michael Chapman = perfection.

  • upon closer inspection....who the hell disliked this? Even if it's not your genre of music everyone should at least respect that this is the defining song of one of the most talented ensemble groups ever to make music, and then add to that the haunting soul of the Staples' voices....if you can't find something to like here you quite simply don't know music....Go back to idolizing Justin Beiber or whatever the hell you do and leave the real music to the rest of us!!

  • absolute perfection. When Pops starts singing with that southern rasp....beautiful.

  • love the band and love mavis and pa staple

  • this is why i love the past we do not see this today

  • perfect, absolutely perfect.

  • I love Mavis

Mavis said gently "beautiful" at the end... I like this version because DVD doesn't record this voice.

  • @LAYLAWhiskyAGoGo

    that`s why i buy vinyl...

  • @rich4828 I'll drink to that.

  • Damn. Mavis Staples. Soul just doesnt get that deep anymore. Musicgasm.

  • Robbie Robeertson AND Mavis Staples--Hell yess !!

  • i think i'm in love with mavis

  • Mavis you are the one!!!!!

  • My uncle played drums with these guys back in the 60's and early 70's. Said Levon Helm was one of his heroes. I used to watch The Last Waltz with my uncle before he died. Miss you Uncle Jimmy. R.I.P.

  • Ever feel that you were placed in the wrong time. Oh to go back to those days where America and its music still had some soul and feeling. Bring those days back. Until then I'll just take a load off.

  • Is there anything better than black gospel singers? And I'm not even religious.

  • Many thanks dogheadio for uploading this classic

  • These stupid intro commercials, pretty soon we'll be waiting for 16 of them before getting to watch 30 seconds of the video...

  • Priceless version ... Staple Singers infuse gospel this classic demands ... The Band's best song, hands down ... thanks dogheadio.

  • Of all the versions of this song IMO this is one of their best performances doing The Weight. Those Staple Singers realy broing out the soul of the song.

  • Many times as I watch and listen to this, I am still awed at how good music can be. Freakin' amazing!

  • MAGNIFICENT.

  • This performance is intense, and it is so cool how 'Pops' Staples just glides into his verse and keeps it cool and soulful.

  • The Staples's parts are quite good and Danko's is amazing!!!

  • ..damn, mavis, tear it up. i loved this concert.. somber.. the LAST waltz.. but they went out on top.. i love watching this one.. more aptly, i love watching levon helm.. not many people who can don a trucker hat, be generally odd looking, and STILL be sexy as a mother effer. rawwwwwr.

  • alta musica!!!! vivan las americas!!!

  • Robbie wrote it, Levon and Rick owned it

  • So good. The Staples almost sensual performance along with Danko's, Awesome.

  • Oh man!

  • I love this song... thank you mavis!!!

  • ya shoulda been there. it was amazing!!! such a long time ago, but watchin these reminds me of bein there again.

  • Wow. That was good. Just like the last 25 times.

  • love this but having trouble acoustically...my computer does not go to 11!!!!!!

  • Pops Staples is on stage with Levon Helm. Your argument is invalid

  • Levon is GOD!

  • @RomMechEng: Oh, I think there's always good stuff out there to be found (sometimes it hides real good), but yeah... this is pure music from the gut. I'm too young to have been into this when it was current, but I've just really discovered The Band in the last few years and I miss them, too.

  • ooohh saw Mavis at the Winspeare Center in Edmonton a couple of years ago, love that woman....

  • Damn. We will never see anything this good again.

  • @RomMechEng NEVER !!

  • beautiful!!!!

  • brilliant song, and I have about 15+ versions but this one is THE BESTEST.

  • Danko is great but they are all so great.

  • Yes indeed

  • Mavis = Foxy..

  • i love rick's verse too, but mavis also kills it. unbelievable.

  • to bad not a lotaa people know bout this its such an amazing concert

  • This is toooo gud! Like eating a big mac and super-sized fries with NO calories, maybe even a fudge cake afterwards, ummmmmm, This The bands last concert backed up by the Staple singers, (I'll Take you There)......

  • Danko's verse for the win! And I want some of what he's on.

  • @gvbezoff Yeah Rick wins it for me,and if you believe one of his songs...He's on Java Blue...yeah sure

  • @dogheadio Oh yes. Danko fan for life.
