It was cheap to hit him while he was tied up like that but Jesus Christ people, it was a pretty weak punch. Downie is a dirt bag though and it doesn't surprise me that Clarke would defend him. Clarke would defend Downie for one good reason. He was as cowardly in his day as Downie is now. Steve Downie isnt good enough to tie up Scott Stevens skates. Stevens hits guys coming across the middle trying to be fancy with the puck. He doesnt leave his feet and takes the body. Downie just launches himself. Wish Clake wouldve tooken a hit from Stevens and known what throwing a hard clean hit was all about.

If you wanna fight someone do what Laraque does. Wait for the next face off, where refs aren't in position to break you up, and say to the guy "wanna square up?" That's what Downie should of done.
