I am in an interracial relationship, and within our families and personal lives, it's not a big deal at all. In society, it's a whole different subject. I don't really care what people think about my relationship, but I do look for advice from time to time to deal with some of the social stigma.
Just a couple of comments. First would be how many of the things you two have said that apply to married couples regardless of their ethnicity. The second would be the fact that you live in an area where people "don't give you a lot of trouble," as you put it. We all owe a debt of gratitude to the Loving Supreme Court decision in 1967, which outlawed interracial marriage in America. I'm Latino and my wife is Jamaican. We have been married for 13 years.

Your wife is very down to earth, and mature about everything. When I see a video like this it makes me want to embrace and accept my colored brothers and sisters. As a comment to the scholarship discussion. As a biracial child I'm glad the mother is encouraging the children to check "other" in the race box. I've always been confused when on an application it's asking me to choose between "African-American/Black" and "Caucasian". My mother, much like the father in this video, keeps wanting me to check "Black". But I feel that if I check that box schools will only want me to fill a minority quota and not because I'm an intelligent individual.

@MAJazzy08 I have my birth certificate infront of me and it says nothing regarding race. I wasn't born in the U.S., I was born in France but my father is American so I have U.S. citizenship. Perhaps there's another form that contains some more information but race works much differently in France than it does in the U.S. France doesn't have the same racial tensions like in the U.S...Employers, or any sort of forms will never ask you for your race. It's quite interesting...

Athough France does not have the same racial tensions as the U.S. they have for a long time faced an identity crisis as what it means to be French. Interracial relationships in France are not at all unheard of and in my school I remember seeing quite a high number. In the U.S. attention is brought to interracial relationships because of America's history and stressed relationship with race. There's no "African-French" in France, if you're black you're just French.

As a comment to the scholarship discussion. As a biracial child I'm glad the mother is encouraging the children to check "other" in the race box. I've always been confused when on an application it's asking me to choose between "African-American/Black" and "Caucasian". My mother, much like the father in this video, keeps wanting me to check "Black". But I feel that if I check that box schools will only want me to fill a minority quota and not because I'm an intelligent individual.

@MAJazzy08 I have my birth certificate infront of me and it says nothing regarding race. I wasn't born in the U.S., I was born in France but my father is American so I have U.S. citizenship. Perhaps there's another form that contains some more information but race works much differently in France than it does in the U.S. France doesn't have the same racial tensions like in the U.S...Employers, or any sort of forms will never ask you for your race. It's quite interesting...

When a rare case of it does happen of course everyone will hear about it. Overall, after going to school and living in French society the racial tensions, are very low. But I don't doubt racism since there are pockets of racism everywhere in the world. Muslims are experiencing the same thing in France as hey are in the U.S. currently.

Athough France does not have the same racial tensions as the U.S. they have for a long time faced an identity crisis as what it means to be French. Interracial relationships in France are not at all unheard of and in my school I remember seeing quite a high number. In the U.S. attention is brought to interracial relationships because of America's history and stressed relationship with race. There's no "African-French" in France, if you're black you're just French.
