  • ARE YOU KIDDING ME WE MISSED IT!

  • Thank You Chicago Tribune!!!! Way Better than the Nasty Stuck Up Jerk Anchors at WGN who were too busy Ripping on the small town of Seneca (My town, by the way!) to actually capture the full footage of the implosion! Thank you for actually show casing the deep history of the bridge and what it meant to the good people of the town!

  • My grandma lives near there, I wish I was with her when it blew up 'cause that mofo went

  • "it scared the living Je-heebies out of me"

  • WHAT??no slow-mo?

  • Downstate? Seneca is not downstate!!! Springfield is where "downstate" begins. Seneca is relatively north. Silliness.

  • There are times when it's hard to see a landmark get demolished or replaced. This was not one of those times.

  • Finally. I hated that old bridge. Way too narrow, and no sidewalk, unlike the new one.

  • why was this imploded? it looked like it had alot more life in it

  • @TheKingOfCoolTrains It was in very bad shape. It was very narrow and there was just barelt enough room for 2 cars to get past each other. Also, there were actual holes in the bridge floor due to its age. Not safe at all! I was afraid to drive over it.

  • @SLBON

If you thought Seneca was bad you should have given the old Marseilles bridge a try.

Seneca was getting a bit ratty lately due to the fact that a new span was under construction right next door. Marseilles was even narrower, with holes in the deck and sidewalks decked with ratty old plywood.

I'm a fan of these classic old bridges and feel they should be preserved if possible but even I could see the Marseilles bridge had seen it's day.

  • @cabbitboy I have seen the old Marseilles bridge and have driven on it before! That was scary as hell, too!

  • Only two more of this type of bridge left on the river at Spring Valley and Henry IL and they are supposedly on the endangered list.

Two more lift span versions remain at Florence and Hardin IL.

  • @cabbitboy but what about Grand Detour Bridge? is that the same type? It is quite smaller though...

  • @T2Bband

Actually I was reffering to bridges on the Illinois River.

You're asking about the IL 2 bridge over the Rock River?

If so it's been a long time since I crossed it but IIRC it was a similar type maybe 3 spans and no need for the height as no river navigation to clear.

If you check Googlemaps (great site for this sort of stuff BTW) street view it looks like the Grand Detour bridge has been replaced as well.

  • Seneca Bridge was an inside job.

  • @mutexnet HAHAHAHAHA//.1/1--=0--= LMAO!!
