cruise control is no good. it is better to have a judicious right foot because cruise control won't let you gain speed going down hill to crest over the next bend.
Here's a tip: switch to riding a motorbike. My $500 25 year old Honda Rebel gets 60-80mpg, depending on how fast I drive and how loaded it is with groceries, 70 mpg is my average driving 25 miles to town, picking up groceries, and driving 25 miles back at around 60mph. By comparison, my cars get 22-25mpg; or only 1/3 as far as the motorbike on the same amount of gas.
