I have trained in the martial arts for over 25 years and have never seen anyone attempt this. I have broken boards with a high roundhouse kick but would never even try to break a coconut with one. I can tell whether or not someone is good at a kick simply by looking at the way they start out by cocking their leg (particularly in kata or breaking). With that said, watch this video again and draw your own conclusions. I have mine, but I'd rather not say. It is obvious.
i would say fake, since i tried many times to do this, but have only kicked the coconut so hard that it flies against something and then smashes, if you would have really broken it with just a kick, that stick holding the coconut would have bent, and the coconut would have gone over it, so is really fake. and the fact the other guy did not hid the knife before you kicking the coconut.
@jaguare18 But have you tried it with steel-toed boots? Ed is great at speed-breaking. Add that steel toe and the coconut break doesn't seem so impossible.
As for the stick bending and breaking- that would only occur with slower force. The point of a snapping kick or a speed break is to have enough velocity on impact to move just that part of your target and not the whole associated mass.
