Modest Mouse is an Alternative Rock group that was signed by UP records an Independant Rock Label. I guess any type of music can be indie but the mass of indie is specific unique sounding rock music.

In Britain Indie is now more a style more than anything else, major record label bands get called indie bands, but it used to mean independently distributed

What's the point of bashing music? Who cares what genre modest mouse is listed as, best music ever(LSC,SSS,TMAA). On another note, indie is just a word to describe music that is made independently, which is how any music should be made. I don't understand groups that buy their music and then market it simply to keep from breaking contract. Apparently that's what "no2GMOs" is into, and hey I say just go right ahead and have yourself a ball, why not two and whosever dick is between them... tool.

B) you pretty much just reiterated what I said and were either agreeing with me--I doubt--or missed the point of what I was saying. "who cares what genre Modest Mouse is listed as" Indie shouldn't be used as a genre term. A country artist can be indie, so can a rap artist(IMO); these are genres. I can find helpful reasons why music is genre'd though. Say when you're in a store trying to get some new tunes... if you're in the mood for rap... there's a section for it.

its not that im missing the point, but you said, it doesnt matter what genre modest mouse is. my point was i dont think music should be like catogorized at all it just limits interpretations. and as for buying music, genres just confuse me, artists in alfabetical order is fine, but good point.

Indie rock = any rock that can't be classified in stuff like punk, hard, soft, metal, etc.

Modest Mouse has some of the best modern lyrics out there, too, and they're NOT overrated, considering they were underground for several years, and they still aren't that popular. Ask about ten teens, and only one or two of them will have even heard of them.
