What an artful masterpiece! The waltz-break at the end of each verse suggests the emotional dance of the relationship: slowing, ebbing, grinding to a halt.
Though the genius of his quirky style kept his works an acquired taste, Todd's albums were remastered and re-released yet again this month: thirty-plus years later, they are still marketable, selling well to those with an ear for quality.
This springs from a time when musicians followed their heart & wrote to please themselves, trusting that money would result from the work's quality.
Today's music is borne via contrived formulas, and those hawking these spongecakes via elaborate, expensive advertising create momentary interest, but then it is on to another flash-in-the-pan: they promise big profits at the expense of developing real talent over time, then feign surprise why today's fluff commands no real residual value.
1972, Was one of my best years! Something/Anything was the lp I carried around and played it on my portable battery operated turntable and played at country bars and turned people on to it. I know, not the best to play a great lp, but that's all I could afford back then.....
absolutely brilliant song & sound

An almost 40 year old song that to this day holds up as well as when it was first written.

It's alright, but not one of his best, unlike the rest on this album.
