models are poor, animation is one of worst, gameplay is dull - I killed a whole bunch of enemies by just standing in place and spamming left mouse button with knife. the only avantage of out of hell above the killing floor is level design, that's all. and out of hell pays for this advantage by very low framerate.
Looks great, man. I'm going to have to reinstall UT2004 for this now. Props for the SINGLE PLAYER and not just being a clone of everyone else! 7 years of hard work and it shows, I'll support you for sure! Hopefully Valve takes interest and who knows... you might have the next mod made into retail makin' loot on Steam! Good Luck!
But KF was still awesome! It offered the replay value that L4D just didn't have. That is the main reason why most KF fans are people got bored with L4D.
I disagree. Although the quality of zombie games is poor (bar a few), it is fair to say it has been done to death as there are an insane number of zombie games. So much so that "Zombie" has almost become a legitimate genre in its own right.
Name me one serious horror zombie game that has been done right?
Because it seems to me that developers LOVE making arcadey style games where you just shoot or beat the crap out of things. So far the only "scary" zombie game released were the first resi evil games, but they weren't scary because of the zombies, just the camera angles, and crap controls.
And if you're gonna ridicule the zombie genre, what about every other genre, they're all done heaps, doesn't mean they're crap genre's...
Don't worry dude. I'm not ridiculing the zombie genre, I'm a huge fan of zombie games. Thats true, the first resident evil games were kinda scary. L4D wasn't very good from a scary point of view but definitely captured the whole zombie movie style pretty well. I love Killing Floor though and it does genuinely have some scary moments.
The reason that these games aren't that scary is because the player is GODLIKE. There also doesn't seem to be much consequence from being damaged. L4D touches on this by making players limp, which is good, but the game is still just shooting like madmen...and woman. This box doesn't allow me to fully touch on fear in games, but right now the biggest problem is godlike characters and lack of consequence, therefore feeling invincible and not really having anything to be scared of.
Wow. Thats a great analysis. All of which I agree with and some of which I hadn't previously thought about. Maybe this game will get rid of the invincibilty problem you spoke about as there seem to be smaller numbers of harder to kill zombies. Until a game does fix that problem, I think we should try to enjoy zombie games for what they currently are; exhilirating and action packed, but not scary.
True that we should enjoy what we've got, no game is perfect.
I still enjoy playing Dead Rising just for it's freeroaming value (shame about the time restrictions though -_-).
But in saying that, if I want action packed gameplay, I can play COD or any other action game. Zombies were born from HORROR, but instead, developers are taking them more to comedy and shoot em up styles of gameplay. I DO have high hopes for "Dead Island" however. I just hope it's not a doozy.
What do you think about the resident evil series (not counting 4,5 and the fps games)? i myself love everything that has zombies but i find always find the same problem as you. i wonder why there is not any SURVIVAL zombie games except for RE 1,2,3 & outbreak. there is no game that has any kind of infection gameplay feature for multiplayer or even single player.
The first few Resi Evil games were alright, however they were only scary due to the claustrophobic atmosphere and crappy camera and controls, and the fact that if you died, you had to go all the way back to the damn save point and do it all again, so there was a consequence for making a mistake.
So far IMO, there is no true zombie survival horror yet.
Yeah, except killing floor is reall just a mod that you have to pay for, and it was original started by a disrespective moron who tried telling the author of out of hell (Long Nguyen) how to make his mod, and basically bad mouthing it (He was jealous and afraid that his Killing Floor mod might not be the only good zombie mod for UT2004 obviously).
So I do not support killing floor, it doesn't deserve to be a retail game, out of hell on the other hand DOES, but he did it for free.
Killing Floor: Started by 1 guy, but made by a team of people over a few years.
Out of Hell: Started by 1 guy, finished by 1 guy, also having gone through a large stage of depression, working a job and trying to keep up with fan demands.
In most cases, the latter situation ends up with a dead mod, but in this case, we're damn lucky he even made the mod and finished it with such great quality. Killing Floor was made by a team and the quality was far less than Out of Hell, lol.
The two mods are so radically different in gameplay and in terms of what they were trying to achieve that comparing them doesn't really achieve anything. Killing Floor is about action, speed, swarms of bad guys... Out Of Hell is about atmosphere, slow pacing, carefully measured encounters.
@otreum25 thats why i despise teams ... plus by making somehting alone you are the single ideea man ..... all your good ideeas will go in the game whereas in a team everybody wants to pitch in some ideas that sometimes dont do the intended atmosphere in games
@otreum25 Damn that is a pretty bad history... If only Tripwire would've gone to Long, instead of Alex. We would see a very polished game running with modern hardware flawlessly, plus some additions Long would like to have in a future installment.
I also find playing them in the dark with the audio LOUD tends to make them seem scarier. Also co-operative play seems to make any game less scary. Take L4D for example, occasionally makes you jump if played solo. Online play takes all the fear out of it. KF is a similar story.
Yet again, very true. If the environment around you matches the environment of the game, then chances are you will become more immersed. If it's a game like Doom 3, the best scares will be in the dark, if the game is something during the day time, then same thing will happen if you play during similar TOD and weather.
Online play with friends is a little less scary, as things would be less scary in reality if you were in a group of friends. It gives a sense of security or safety.
If you haven't already got Killing Floor you should definitely check it out. It is one of the few zombie games I know that get the balance between fear and action near perfect. Heck, if you have/get it add me on steam and join my KF group :D my name is gazornonplat there as well.
I won't buy Killing Floor, the new version is hardly any different to the FREE mod version and IMO, the project leader "Mr Kadish" does not deserve my money.
He is pig headed and bashful. In fact, he came onto the OoH forums and bad mouthed Out of Hell from nowhere, and then tried telling CrC how to make his mod when clearly CrC knows exactly how to make his mod. Nobody is perfect, I understand that, but nobody has the right to behave like he did either. If he apologized, I would forgive.
Wow. I didn't know that. I bought the game because I was a long running fan of the mod and thought that the creator Alex Quick deserved to have game sell well since it was quite so good. If you won't buy it for the project leader, maybe buy it for the original mod team as they have really worked hard. I checked out the zombie island trailer and DAMN that looks scary! L4D was too easy, the fact you could put extra shells into your shotgun whilst smacking zombies in the face with it was stupid.
Yep, I enjoyed ZP:S aside from the fact that survivors can simply just barricade the crap out of a room and wait for impatient zombies to try and get through before blowing them to pieces. The survivors need more of an objective other than camp it out until the timer runs out I think. I like Zombie Master alot better for this very reason, and it's always interesting to see the variety of different zombie masters in control and how they control the horde.
Man, this is beautiful...

why not base the mod of UT3?

Probably because UT3 wasn't out in 2002, when this mod got started, I believe.

because UT3s modding sucks, ut2004 is way better.

Too bad there's no multiplayer mode.
Kind of hard to keep interest in sp games.
Anyway, good choice on ut2004. UT3 was a Epic fail. LOL

Killing floor is obviously a lot higher quality in general than this. Taking 7 years to make a mod means that leadership was poor.
