One judges lack of common sense has created this fear in people. I saw an old lady fall down in the street once, when I went to help her I was stopped. people told me that if I help her, I may be accused of knocking her over and forced to pay her medical bills.

Because the chance of them getting sued, even if they did everything according to the book is very high. I wouldn't know anyone who wouldn't be shocked by this incident.

this breakdown in morality is directly linked to the Nanjing Judge who charged a good simaritan and forced him to pay medical bills after he helped an elderly woman who fell down in the street. Chinese people are now warned not to go to the aid of accident victims in case they end up being blamed for the accident.
I spend a lot of time in China and most of my friends and family over there were very upset by this story. But everyone will think twice when you are putting your own life at risk.
