For those of us who are new to the scene... what is a lead cast bullet? What makes them preferable (or not) to a non-lead cast bullet? For that matter, do all bullets have some kind of lead in them? Many thanks for the video...
@wilkbor A full metal jacket (FMJ) bullet is a lead bullet with a jacket of copper around it. That's what you buy at the gun store. A lead cast bullet is a lead bullet with no copper jacket. Generally, you melt lead, pour it into a bullet mold and "cast" it. Well you can do it at home, or buy professionally cast lead bullets. They are cheaper than FMJ.
Could that after market barrel just need a polished ramp, or is the barrel too tight for your hand loads? Just curious, what do you carry? With all your experience whatever you chose must be a goodie. :o)
I liked the video it answered a lot of questions i had about the glock 21 . That is the pistol i want, but im looking to put a 6 inch barrel on it for close range hunting ,do you have any suggestions besides lone wolf. ps Ilike your shooting range.
You mention Gold Dot hollow points as a home defense round. I have seen these in both 230 grain and 185 grain variations. Which would you recommend and why? FYI these will be used in the Glock 21 gen 4.
Hows the trigger pull on this? I've been considering the glock 21 but I've got a question. How is the trigger pull on it? I HATE mushy trigger pulls and I'm looking for something that has a good crisp trigger pull.
@86turkishman, Absolutely not true. In Tennessee, there's a law that requires anybody with a Glock to buy them. We've worked on getting the law repealed, but thus far no success. They are still a requirement.
@hickok45 I don't mean to sound correcting because threw all intensive purposes I very well could be wrong, but isn't shooting FMJ round's at a steel target like that dangerous.
@86turkishman Actually if you buy it direct they can blind mark it for you. That will remove the marking on the barrel hood. They will even make it in black if you wish. While we are required to buy one in Tennessee we do have options :)
I do handload .45 ACP automatic. My problem is my lead bullets in 230 grain, are not properly crimp. I have some malfunction when I shoot this loads in my 1911 Kimber and Sig-Sauer P-220. This handguns are tightly fitted I presumed. Shooting the same loads with and older Glock-21, same problem as well. Not so much though, the tolerance on Glock-21 is quite neglectible. Any advice are welcome from Hickok .45. Thank you.
@EddygPS3 To me (my opinion) its the preson behinde the firearm, both guns probably are very accuret I have a Glock 17 (well realy my dads but whatever) , might either get a G21 or G19 but usally its the person who makes it accuret
@obend52 I have and shoot both, the 21 is more comfortable to hold, but " I feel I " shoot more accurately with the 30. Reliability with a glock is like having round tires on a car, they just are. Make a friend and try both before you buy or just buy both! lol
Audio Observation: During firing , the pistols LOUD...But whenyou turn and speak the camera, Your voice dropps WAY DOWN till I cab barley hear or understand you, Cant you hook yourself up with a Different Mic there, to get your VOICE recorded at a good Range, Thanks :) Herb.
Im a big fan of your Videos by the way Hickok, I must say you got it goin on brother. I half to ask out of a the SR1911 and the Glock 21 in the 45. What would you prefer. I like that you throw in a little humor in your videos as well. Keep airing the videos. I know alot about rifles, revolvers and shotguns, but i have learned a heck ok alot about automatic pistols and their quality from watching your videos. That turkey gives you hell sometimes dont it...lol
@4427feb, I've never broken even one of my extractors. Of course, I usually don't have problems with rounds being chambered either. If it were a problem, I would have discovered it for myself during my last 50 years of shooting, I think. Experience is about the only teacher I pay much attention to these days. :-)
@hickok45 I understand Mr. Hickok, I was just alway taught to never jam it, because it is indeed a control feed process. Your the expert though Hickok. I have a Ria tactical 2011 1911 full rail 45 ACP right now, its ok, but im really in the market to get a glock. I do alot of shooting. Would you recommend the 21 series for a full size 45?. I know your pretty partial to Glock, so im sure you know alot about them as well as many other different brands of firearms. What do you prefer as far qualit
HEY HOW ARE YOU BUDDY? I REALLY LOVE YOUR VIDEOS THEY ARE GREAT. QUICK QUESTION, I AM BYING MY FIRST GLOCK 21, I HAVE BEEN WAITING A MONTH TO GET A 21C BUT NO ONE HAS IT. I'm 14, and I'm an experienced young shooter. My dad was planning on buying me a Glock 22 for my birthday for practicality with the .40 s&w ammunition, but I asked him for the Glock 21 since there wasn't a large difference in price. Would you recommend the G22 or G21 overall?
When I reasemble my glock 21SF I seat the guild rod perfect in the little half moon cutout but soon as i rack the slide on the gun it falls out of the half moon seat at breech end. It shoots perfect and fuctions but im wondering if this is normal???
Please help me Hickok and folks!

The bullets you were shooting was causing the hangup? Lone wolf barrels are less money compare to glock but are they reliable, between lone wolf or stock glock barrels which would you buy
Practice is the only way to achieve perfection. Some of the world's greatest feats were accomplished by those not smart enough to know they were impossible.
as a pistol(.45) i will love to have one of this g21 but they are illegal in my country were allowed 1911's but not glocks i dont know why they say cause there called ghost guns or if it makes sense cause u can get them through airports.dont know but i want a g21 instead of a 1911.u can get glocks by the way but not legaly well thats every were.by the the way im turkish
@spyethanhunt Short frame has a smaller grip making it a little easier for someone with smaller hands to grip it. There might also be a difference with the magazine release, but the older design in the SF wasn't so great.
@FranklinFirstPastor , Yeah, mainly just to shoot lead bullets. There would be no improvement in accuracy, at least in any practical way (See my "Accuracy" video).
@hickok45 (revolver guy here) could you switch out the barrel in a glock 21 for instance to a barrel from like a 17 to make it shoot 9mm? just kinda popped into my head when u switched the barrel so quickly lol :)
I see this video is from 2 years ago, have you had better luck with the lone wolf barrel and your cast reloads? Im looking at buying one for mine. Do you think polishing the chamber would help? You dont happen to have the seating depth off the top of your head do you that you had good luck with? Thanks again for your videos
i love it when hickok says i reach for the glock 45 when i hear a bumb in the night.
In the uk if you reach for a catapult u will be arrested thats a fact. you cant even hunt with a crossbow anymore. You need a licence for some bb guns as well as deactived weapons that dont even fire!
glock needs to make a compact model in 45 a.c.p.. i bet there would be a huge market for that but they only have the 38 which is the g.a.p. (still a great gun though)
@NicktheSickLunatic Glock makes the G30 and the G36 actually! the G30 is the same size as the G29 10mm, and is still a pretty big gun, but with a short grip. The G36 is the only single stack magazined gun that Glock makes, and is about the size of the G19/G23. He has videos on the G29 and the G30, but I'm personally still waiting for him to get his hands on a G36!
MR. hickok it seems you had less recoil with the winchester balls than your lead reloads. Lone wolf barrels work great and they now offer to hide that engraving on the bottom of barrel or even engrave your guns serial on it, like the stock barrels come. :) love your channel.
I'm currently going through Basic Law Enforcement now and was wondering if you ever used to be in any kind of law enforcement? You just remind me of my firearms instructor with the "cool and calm" personality, yet capable of handling yourself very well...
Hickok I finally got around to getting my first 45, I really wanted a Springfield 1911 A-1 GI with the green finish and lowered original sights I couldnt find one here in SoCal so I settled on the Glock 21 and picked up a used one for a good price. Then I start hearing how the polymer frame doesnt hold up with this bigger round and how they are prown to malfunctioning and they do not hold up to Glocks standards. Should I sell it and hold out for something else?
I agree hickok, thats the only bad thing about lone wolf. i hate that stupid frickin wolf on the top of my gun. i tried to sand it down and buff it out, it worked pretty good. but about 5 hours on a buff wheel later you can still make it out.
@Vidwatcher321 I was stuck between the two, and honestly I just bought the Glock 21 tonight. I couldn't be happier. Yeah the M&P fit just a tiny bit better in my hand, but the Glock feels great too, and I don't even have big hands. I couldn't be happier. Completely simple for my first gun and I bet you will love it too!
Bonjour, why should you NOT use lead in a Glock barrel? I'm looking for my next 45acp and its between the Glock and a S&W 1911. The Glock is 1/2 the price opf the S&W here in France. I like them both BUT for cost of shooting I reload and cast my own 45-9mm-38spl & 357mag. Any advice?
The G21 I shot a few days ago was shooting low, at 7 yards, I had to use a 12 o' clock hold on the 7 ring of a paper torso target to hit the centre ring. It was still a great gun though. Glad I finally got to shoot it after waiting nearly a year after I turned down my last opportunity to shoot one.
If I didn't know better, I'd say you are the jesus christ of glocks. I've been shooting all my life, and you use those iron sights like someone who can turn water to wine. I'm a clay duck and rifle dude myself, I'm "ok" (and I say that loosely) with a handgun...I should practice more ._.
have u ever checked out the compensated kkm barrels they have for the 21, im in love with them, cant really tell if compensated handles any kind of recoil, 9mm all the way to a 45, i just like the look
I've done a little bit of research on lonewolf after market barrels and noticed that they have a lot of problems with chambering rounds. I was thinking about getting a threaded barrel for my glock 21 but now, i'm thinkin twice on that. Looks like after market barrels aren't the way to go.
@AmericasExodus , Well, you know that I really like Glocks, but since the 100 year anniversary is coming up, maybe you should treat yourself to a celebration piece! :-)
@natedrake77 well dont worry about recoil im 12 and average size and i can easily 1 hand a glock 30 all day and im accurate with the subcompact glock 30 dont have any exp. with the 21
Nice shooting on those farther targets! So from your video, talking about seating your bullets, I take it you reload. Do you cast your own lead bullets or buy them?
Have you ever put some thought into getting the .50 cal GI conversion kit for this gun?Great round, almost the same kick as the .45 but leaves a bigger hole and has greater stopping power. And all in a reliable glock package.
Have you ever had the infamous Glock KB with the factory barrel with all the shooting you've done especially with the Glock 21 and 30 which are very unsupported? This is the only psychological barrier to me actually getting a 45 cal Glock.
@johncanawati , I've been handloading for Glocks since the '80s and shooting the same brass over and over in all popular calibers (especially .40), and I've never had any problems at all, and I don't know anybody who has had any problems.
@johncanawati KBs are not a problem with 21s. The G22 is the majority culprit. The .40 S&W has a far higher pressure than the .45ACP and the G22 barrel is prone to pop with overpressure rounds. If you stick with factory pressures in jacketed ammo there is no worries. Sure G21s have Kb'd, BUT any firearm is prone to it. I have seen high end 1911's KB because of loader error, and defective barrels.... I trust my G21 with my life...
@pittbullbill , They are no better; they just have the traditional style of rifling and allow one to shoot lead bullets in a Glock if one is so inclined.
I'm about to buy my first gun and I was stuck in between the GLock 21 and the M&P 45 and decided on the M&P because it feels better in my hand. But the Gen 4 Glock's feel awesome in the hand unfortunately as of now no release date is scheduled for the Glock 21 so I'll be buying the Smith and Wesson
@hickok45 Honestly I think you should test the 45. Being as you own the Glock 21 and the M&P is pretty much the biggest contender it has and has a lot of the similarities as it also. You can do side by side tests of both of them and once and for all put the debate to an end. No one has shooting videos of them both that I could find so you'd be the first. Get the M&P 45 with the 4.5 inch barrel, not the compact model. It's the one that's almost identical. Product code is 109706 with Night Sight.
oooo look you blame somebody else for your glock problems again whats normal about that. so why dont you hop of your glock high horse and get a reality check. yes i think glocks are great but you over kill em man
I have a question I was wondering if you could help me with. I recently purchased a new Glock 21, and three 50 rd. boxes of ammo. 2 boxes of Winchester metal cased bullets, and one box of Remington jacketed hollow points. After running through a mix of the rounds, about 75 total, I noticed my gun making a bit of a clanking noise when it was shaken. Turns out it was the factory barrel has developed a small amount of play, where you can move it back and forth with your finger. Is that normal?
I hear a mix of stories about the 1911 in terms of feeding hollow points. I hear some feed them just fine, I some won't at all. I haven't tried with mine (kahr arms auto ordnance) simply because HP is so damn expensive and I am still getting used to her.
every now and then I will have trouble feeding the last round on this crappy mag I bought for it.
my question is, what is the difference with 1911 barrels and other models that feed hollow point without error?
@knightsai13, In the states it holds 13+1, in Canada it holds 10+1

Can the Glock 21 handle a lot of 45 +P ammo ?
I am interested in a Full size side arm.
The only problem with Hickock doing a gun review, is that he makes a slingshot look accurate.

My hat is off to you, sir.

have u ever checked out the compensated kkm barrels they have for the 21, im in love with them, cant really tell if compensated handles any kind of recoil, 9mm all the way to a 45, i just like the look
scoutsgt18b 1 year ago
I've done a little bit of research on lonewolf after market barrels and noticed that they have a lot of problems with chambering rounds. I was thinking about getting a threaded barrel for my glock 21 but now, i'm thinkin twice on that. Looks like after market barrels aren't the way to go.

I recently decided to get a new handgun in .45 caliber, I can't decide between a Glock 21 or a Colt 1911, I also usually only use fmj or hardballs.

@hickok45 hey im a small dood, but i want an accurate glock.45 so do i go with a 21 or a 30?
natedrake77 1 year ago
@natedrake77 well dont worry about recoil im 12 and average size and i can easily 1 hand a glock 30 all day and im accurate with the subcompact glock 30 dont have any exp. with the 21

@AmericasExodus have to go with the Glock, I wouldn't buy anything else
adam22833 1 year ago
Nice shooting on those farther targets! So from your video, talking about seating your bullets, I take it you reload. Do you cast your own lead bullets or buy them?
t1msguitar 1 year ago
Have you ever put some thought into getting the .50 cal GI conversion kit for this gun?Great round, almost the same kick as the .45 but leaves a bigger hole and has greater stopping power. And all in a reliable glock package.
poopdud18 1 year ago
Have you ever had the infamous Glock KB with the factory barrel with all the shooting you've done especially with the Glock 21 and 30 which are very unsupported? This is the only psychological barrier to me actually getting a 45 cal Glock.
johncanawati 1 year ago
@johncanawati , I've been handloading for Glocks since the '80s and shooting the same brass over and over in all popular calibers (especially .40), and I've never had any problems at all, and I don't know anybody who has had any problems.
hickok45 1 year ago
@johncanawati KBs are not a problem with 21s. The G22 is the majority culprit. The .40 S&W has a far higher pressure than the .45ACP and the G22 barrel is prone to pop with overpressure rounds. If you stick with factory pressures in jacketed ammo there is no worries. Sure G21s have Kb'd, BUT any firearm is prone to it. I have seen high end 1911's KB because of loader error, and defective barrels.... I trust my G21 with my life...

is the wolf barrels alot better than the standard?
pittbullbill 1 year ago
@pittbullbill , They are no better; they just have the traditional style of rifling and allow one to shoot lead bullets in a Glock if one is so inclined.
hickok45 1 year ago
I'm about to buy my first gun and I was stuck in between the GLock 21 and the M&P 45 and decided on the M&P because it feels better in my hand. But the Gen 4 Glock's feel awesome in the hand unfortunately as of now no release date is scheduled for the Glock 21 so I'll be buying the Smith and Wesson
RedskinsMike87 1 year ago
@RedskinsMike87 , The M&P line seems pretty nice. I'm trying to figure out which model I want to get to run through the wringer and test.
hickok45 1 year ago
@hickok45 Honestly I think you should test the 45. Being as you own the Glock 21 and the M&P is pretty much the biggest contender it has and has a lot of the similarities as it also. You can do side by side tests of both of them and once and for all put the debate to an end. No one has shooting videos of them both that I could find so you'd be the first. Get the M&P 45 with the 4.5 inch barrel, not the compact model. It's the one that's almost identical. Product code is 109706 with Night Sight.

Is that normal?
dickstraten 1 year ago
I hear a mix of stories about the 1911 in terms of feeding hollow points. I hear some feed them just fine, I some won't at all. I haven't tried with mine (kahr arms auto ordnance) simply because HP is so damn expensive and I am still getting used to her.
every now and then I will have trouble feeding the last round on this crappy mag I bought for it.
my question is, what is the difference with 1911 barrels and other models that feed hollow point without error?
