These devices (netbooks, PDA's, computers, etc) would be more useful without so many dramatic changes. Incremental changes could accomplish same, but not as profitable. For example, switch from WinXP to Win7 causing numerous software apps, right along with related data files, to no longer work. Thus, extremely hesitant to store valuable data on these devices. Paper in a file cabinet is safer.

Yes. It's only 1.3megapixel, but it's more than sufficient for Skype.  Other than a nearly-too-small keyboard, it's actually quite a little champ.

i got my eeepc 1000 and love it. Sure it is a little larger than other netbooks but it is by no means big. i compared it to a friends new acer inspire which is a bit smaller and also much less powerful.

you can use an external port and connect it via USB or even put the disc into a computer and the save it onto a USB and load it onto the eee pc that way....btw this works i have an eee pc so I thought of that too at first.

you should have gotten a 900ha. the whole point of getting an eee pc is to have a small laptop.

Arguable. The 900's are too small for comfortable typing for alot of people. The 1000 allows for a decent sized keyboard for most people while at a decently cheap price ($400 for the lowest end 1000). Laptops normally go as long as 12", and regardless are alot more expensive.

The 10" EEE PC is still really easy to carry around, and i personally find it more enjoyable to use

the manual says so, yes. Best is to charge it all the way to 100%, use the netbook until its out off juice, and recharge it again. The battery will reach best performance after 3 charge cycles (again, the manual states that)

The right Shift key is awkwardly placed after the up arrow key, making it pretty much useless for touch-typists. Adding insult to injury, there is wasted, blank space between the up arrow button and the question mark key, where the Shift key should have been.

Linux version is much trustworthier. If you have a windows version, it'll likely run slower when you don't install a virus program. With a linux or Ubuntu, most websites are not orientated on these programs which allows you to surf on the web without any worries.

I hate it that they changed the 900 design. I don't like the smaller part which is connecting the laptop to the screen, it is soooo ugly, that's the only reason I stick with the 900.

its hardly perfect, im using a laptop that has 1gig of ram just now and it used to run windows and was pretty slow, it now runs SusE linux and it runs faster than ever, so windows must run slow on the eee pc aswell

I use linux, but the reason that windows is on my eee 1000 is because I need it for work and, the 1000 can run xp just fine. Hell I could probably put the intel version of OSX on it and it will work fine.

Meh I ubuntu which i was using at the time was fairly buggy too (live disk was fine but when i tried to install it...) and why would i go an buy a program the probably only work on most games, probably not work with punk buster (I did get enemy territory working but punk buster would kick me off for having an invalid windows api), and doubtfully as fast. When i can just install windows for free as i already own it and use pretty much ANYTHING, and fast.

Before you post and gripe about "ohhhh, asus teh sux" because of the new price, do some research. solid state drives (using a samsung drive for price comparison, which is what asus is thinking about using) its about 12.5 bucks a gig. Multiply that by 40, and you have 500 bucks. not to forget the bluetooth (add about 40 bucks) the wireless n, and 2 gigs of ram, which adds 50 - 100 bucks, depending on the brand.

Wow, you guys DO realize that they are just offering more choice right? If you wanted the 7" Eee, you could've gotten it. If you want a bigger laptop (for a higher price), now you can get that too with the Eee 1000! Not everyone likes tiny keyboards! I think people are confused. Asus still offers the 701 at a cheap price that still comforms to the whole cheap netbook philosophy. In fact the 701 is approaching that magic $200 mark. They just happen to also offer higher end netbooks that still compares very reasonably to UMPCs (from sony, toshiba, etc) which still retail for thousands. So people, chill out. Want a cheap netbook... get the eee pc 701!!!!

I totally agree bass, it was only a matter of time before Asus dropped their fake 'market friendly face' and show themselves to be just as greedy as all the other corporate companies. The whole point of UMPC was that it wasn't meant to be cheap but good! Now the price is rising all the time. I won't be buying one of these, or any Asus for that matter. I'd rather wait and see the Acer Aspire one or the Dell Mini inspiron.

Go for the SSD. It's quieter, the battery lasts longer, and it's semi shock-proof. 40gig is fine to install all your software. If you have terabytes of Mp3's you're worried about then 40gig or 80gig it doesn't really matter cuz you'll still need an external HDD anyway.

I forgot to say SSD is MUCH faster for loading programs and stuff too. I don't think you can upgrade the internal SSD but ask a guy on YouTube called JKKMOBILE, he mod's these things.
