@RedSandStudios It's a Gretsch, not a Gibson, but yeah. As far as I'm aware he would only get it out for this song live (it's the only point you see it on the Feed To Feed dvds), although it says in the liner notes he used it a bit while recording Self Preserved. There's a video elsewhere on youtube where they walk through their gear and he says he has an endorsement deal with Fender or some such. His main strat's actually an 80s Squire though.
@rlesbirel Thanks for pointing that out. There are a good few guitars that look very similar to Gibsons. My friend has a hollow body Yamaha that looks just like one as well. I remember Mike saying how he upgraded that cheap 80 strat and made it sound amazing.
@RedSandStudios Yeah, he said on that vid he put Dimarzio pickups in it, though in the "thank yous" for Self Preserved he says he uses Bare Knuckles. Either way them 80s Squires were pretty decent anyway.
Me and the other guitarist in my band had a really sad moment the other day when we realised that between us we can actually fairly accurately recreate most of Mr. Vennart's pedalboard with our own gear, I didn't know whether to laugh or cry.
I'm so fucking pissed off I never saw them live. Possibly could've been the greatest live act ever.
Oh well, though. Maybe down the road, 'Size will have a reunion, but until then I'll thoroughly support each band member's projects. Thoroughly looking forward to Mike's solo work as well as British Theatre, which is Gambler and Mike.
Goodbye Oceansize :( thousands of people will never forgot how groundbreaking your music is, and how they felt when they first heard it. Thanks for everything you ever did.
Such a sad day in the music history....this band was really one of a kind to me and their split hit me right in the soul like no other band did before.hope they reconsider their decision in a near by future,in the meanwhile we'll always have amazing oceansize songs like this one and its funny because they're not the picture anymore but they will always be the frame, one very important frame....

That's the opening guitar in compound timing, add them all up and you have a recuring sequence of 50 beats. That's the first guitar bit in a nutshell...
Second guitar bit is...
6 4 6 1 -
This kicks in at the beginning and the 3rd section of the first guitar sequence...
The 3rd part is...
3 2 2 2 - 3 2 2 2 -
The most interesting, since it's odd, it gives the alternating feel...
Foo fighters is awesome!! Please check out my band on youtube. Copy abrogateband and type it in the search area. I went to see Smashing Pumpkins at the MEN Arena at the start of 2008, and only found out on the day that these guys were supporting. I'd never even heard of them so was kind of disappointed. Then the show started, and it was like being hit with a wall of noise (in a good way). I've never, ever enjoyed a concert so much in my life - and I was actually gutted when they left the stage and SP came on. They've been my favourite band ever since, I'm so glad I got to experience them in a big arena.
@THelperCell I had been listening to them for a little bit before I saw them for their first and hopefully not last Australian tour. Ever since that show they were my favourite aswell.
great song from a great band! pls check out our video, we are still trying to get that shoegaze/ambient feel.. just type, jam experiment video file 1 (or video file 2).. leave a comment, thanks!
Hi, we are a new band called Koi, we are very inspired by Oceansize, their massive climaxes and the atmospheric dynamics. We have a new album coming soon and want to inform you of that, search for "Koi-Less Than Abstract" for our epic progressive mellow side (music for a nurse, savant, the frame style) or "Koi-The Rabbit" for our more energetic side. Hope you don't mind a struggling small band trying to spread their word :) Anyway, check it out, you might like it! Rock on! //Patrik
Sometimes, when I go to bed, I leave my laptop turned on playing "The frame"... and I fall asleep listening to this beautiful song, It's like a lullaby to me. One of their best songs.
its pretty awesome to wake up to aswell. stayed at my bfs one night and he had tis album on repeat and i woke up and was listening to it for agess, it was great
The flip side of that is they keep their music good. Getting too much exposure often kills bands. People forget Biffy Clyro were an awesome post-hardcore band back in the day.
They saw the limelight and money, and the music has suffered.
I've seen these twice now and they really are amazing! Seeing as though everyone has a job putting them in a genre why don't they just make one called goosebumpcore or something??
List like?! That is a blatant stonker of a list. I will agree with you that they're post prog rock but I can't stand anything being labelled as "emotive". Normally if a song has been written by a human and not some dog turd masquerading as one like Lady Gaga or someone of that ilk then it will conjure emotions. I'm from Merseyside anyway so this argument has taken on a different, much more regional meaning to me now...
But emotive ah bugger. wikipedia proves me wrong. They're apparently space rock too. Just like amplifier! :D
I totally understand the emotional definition. But then again I'd have to say there are some things I'd define as emotive over others. Say, Incubus I would not define as emotive. The Mars Volta I would say is emotive (on specific albums), The Offspring I would not say is emotive, its more like complaining. LOL.
Aah seeing as though you mentioned The Volta all is forgiven. Lol. And I like the fact that you called me dearie in your first post, I doubt any other word sounds better in a Glaswegian accent. :D

Osize are the definition of math-rock, let me explain:
3 2 3 2 1 - 3 2 3 2 1 - 3 2 3 3 2 1 - 3 2 3 3 2 1 -
That's the opening guitar in compound timing, add them all up and you have a recuring sequence of 50 beats. That's the first guitar bit in a nutshell...
