  • not only that its 4 times the cost of a Fiat that gets better fuel economy.

    this technology is nothing new diesel-electric trains use the same thechnology the last 60 years only thing new on this is they put an lithium battery to start with.

  • It means that they w'll put 1.4 litre gasoline engine in the car(hahahahaha).I got in my Fiat Bravo 1.4 litre engine 90 HP,60 MPG hiway speed and 35 MPG in city... Fuel eficient car!!! Volt is a fake!!!! Make it full electric!!! Like Tesla!!!That is the car!!! Wake up America!!! Greatings from Romania

  • I would pay $50K and even more for the Volt. It is well designed and electric Cars are the future.

  • Like all cars the price will go down after a couple years, don't be so against it. Car companies all over have cars that are well above $50k. It's not something out of the ordinary, just look at Mercedes and BMW. It''s a new concept.

  • GM didnt drag towards the Volt Hybrid. they are fighting for their existense thats why.

    if gas was $2 a gallon today the Volt will not exist and just be a concept of the imagination !

  • well gas is going south of $1.80 and the recession is just getting started so it might go all the way to $1.50 again. We will see if the car still has appeal by the time it comes out.

  • I just think GM could come out with it before 2 1/2 years from now if they really wanted to. It's like they're being dragged towards it. But something is better than nothing.

    I hate to think what gas will cost by time this car hits the streets.

    a 1997 Toyota Rav4 electric could go over 120 miles on a single change that was 11 years ago over a DECADE ago technology folks !

    the EV-1 which GM killed did about the same.

    this Volt is Worse only 40 miles on a $40K car that doesnt exist and unproven

    BTW it has a gasoline engine too !!

  • Detroit area newspapers report production of the Volt has been assigned to a plant in southeast Michigan. New lithium batteries are being installed in test vehicles this fall (2007). Lithium was chosen for higher energy storage capacity and lower weight. Looks like a genuine effort this time around.

  • You know how GM keeps saying that the battery is the problem. And all those vids that show the Volt driving around. And it makes the weirdest loudest noise. I think they can't even find good engineers to make the electric motor or put all the electric compoents together properly. Since so many people heard about the EV-1 and Cobasys NiMH battery.  I bet all the good engineers wouldn't work for GM. So they ended up hiring retards to put the Volt together. Thats why it is taking so long.

  • Might also be because GM sold the Battery improvement patent from the EV1 batteries to EXXON/MOBIL.. Hmmmm what would a gas company, want with a electric car battery patent......

  • when you look at the back end of it head on...it looks fucked up. in my opinion, that rear end doesnt match the front of the car...thats the only thing that should change.

  • You know they are never going to make this car. They would lose to much money on it. The reason you can figure it out is because they say they don't have a battery that can go 40 miles which is bull. Look up the Tesla, it can go 250 with the same battery that the volt is using and it doesn't have a motor to recharge it.

  • Kinda right psykodragon1. .To sell it resonably priced they would probally loose money at first. 20-30k is probally top price to sell many one. Tesla over 100k. Tesla holds 2 people the Volt 4or5. Hills and cold weather would clobber that 250 mile range.You have to make sure to get back home to your special 220 volt charger .The Volt can be driven across the country.

  • Tesla is not as bad as you make it sound. It has regenerative braking so it recovers energy on a downhill slope. It could actually go further in cold weather because it doesn't have to run the cooling system as much. And there is a portable charging kit, it can charge from RV hookups for example. It's not for the masses (price starts at $92K), but it's much cheaper than Porsches and Ferraris it can run with. The technology is very promising.

  • 92k? I dont think the people who can afford it will concern about saving a few bucks for gas.

  • it's a concept... how do you know? just by looking at it? I think it is a great first step. lets just see if there is a demand for them (electric cars)
