  • first time ive heard this thanks kelly!

    slaint

  • I can honestly agree that this among other beautiful songs of lukes has something I jus can't put my finger on? Think its the true essence of love that pulses from it start to finish!!!!! Absolutely beautiful!!!!

  • There is something about this particular song of Luke's. I hope i can take with me to my eternity. Forever and ever.

  • Haven't heard this song in years!

Thank you for posting it on YT

  • Thanks for all the uploads kelly, love em. Was looking for this song for ages, didnt hear it in years

  • I loved that girl with all my heart. She’s as dear as my lovely life. But in the latter part of the year, she became another man’s wife. But I’ve never told him of her faults. And I’m damned if ever I do. But many’s the time as she winks and smiles, I think on the foggy dew – dew – dew. I think on the foggy dew.

  • @oskhen85

Thank you for the lyrics. :-)

  • @BoudiccaBlanc No problem

  • Supposing you should have a child. It would make you laugh and smile. And suppose you had another one. It would make you think a while. And suppose you had another one. And another one or two. It would make you leave off them foolish young tricks, and think on the foggy dew – dew – dew. And think on the foggy dew.

  • All in the first part of that night, we rolled in sport and play. And in the latter part of that night, she in my arms did lay. And when broad daylight did appear, she cried “I am undone!” “Oh, hold your tongue you silly young girl! For the foggy dew is gone – gone – gone. For the foggy dew is gone.”

  • One night as I lay in my bed, ataking my pleasant sleep, this pretty young maid she came to me. And bitterly she did weep; she tore her hair and she wrung her hands, saying “Oh, what shall I do? For tonight I’ve resolved to sleep with you. For fear of the foggy dew – dew – dew. For fear of the foggy dew.”

  • When I was a bachelor, airy and young, I followed the roving trade. And the only harm that ever I’ve done was courting a servant maid. I courted her all summer long – and part of the winter too. And many’s the time I rolled my love all over the foggy dew – dew – dew. All over the foggy dew.

  • This song isn't called The Foggy Dew. That's a completely different song.

  • @TheNatureBoy44: Your thinking of Foggy Dew, the song of the easter rising written some 100 years or more after the first origins of the above song . This song is also known as The Foggy Dew

  • @dereksmallsuk It actually goes under both titles, but not to confuse it with the Other foggy dew I chose to call it When I Was A Bachalor :)

  • @kellyoneill .........oh.....no it doeeeesssnnntttt ha ha

  • @dereksmallsuk get a mixture of Dubliners Cd's/Albums, and see for yourself :)

  • @dereksmallsuk Actually to be exact check Songs Of The Workers or The Luke Kelly album to name but two discs!

  • @kellyoneill I realize that you are mainly a Luke fan, but Tim O'Brien does a version of this.. and I think he calls it "The Foggy Dew"

  • @kellyoneill I hear a song sung by Luke to the tune of my little armalite but I can't find it anywhere. Do you know what it's called?

  • The chords are C-G-F and the minor is Am.

  • Gosh - he could sing!!!!!Anna

  • theres follk singing and thens theres irish folk singing by luke kelly.

  • I'm obviously a long time behind answering these messages, but this was on a "tape" back in the 80's "The Best of the Dubliners" which had some fantastic slow airs and reels that are very hard to find nowawdays. I'm delighted to find this here as I've looked for it for years... the other Foggy Dew is the 1916 song, good song, but a very different song.

  • Another great song collected by Ewan McColl and interpreted to perfection by King Luke.

  • majasic

  • Really super song! I find lyrycs very hard, can someone help me to find chords for it? I allmost gave up finding them. I would be very happy if I would get chords!

  • Kristijan, should be fairly much between D, A and Bm. If you want a full chart of it, I'd be delighted to write it down for you.

  • Hello!

I tried combination of chords C,F,G and a but because of my por knowledge of guitar I'm not so sure and I'd be very thanksfull if you could help me find the right chords for this beautifull song.

    Thanks and kind regards,

    Kristijan

  • Great, great song sung by that talented, talented man, Luke Kelly.

Not trying to be smart, but a 'roving trade' was when you took your 'trade' to all parts of the country looking for work.

  • Great song never heard this one before..

  • a roving trade was a job u travelled to, away from home

  • i ADORE this song! But what is the roaving trade? Its in lots of dubliner / luke kelly / folk songs?

  • no its "foggy dew" no "the foggy dew" two differnt songs.

  • I've heard this song referred to as "The Foggy Dew" before. Not to be confused with the 1916 song of course.
