  • the neo-geo cdz is kinda like the model 2 genesis, improving on the first one in many ways!

  • Z for Zooooom!!!

  • Oh my god, I could've got one of these at a pawn shop in Japan for like $12, but I didn't have enough room to take it with me.

  • HAHA you had me there with the sharpie. I bet the guy did have a heart attack xD BRILLIANT REVIEW!

  • ....WOW... we all watched this review for a medium amount of nostalgia.... why... all the negativity...? i love video games.... period...

  • I DON'T CARE THAT CHUCK NORRIS DOESN'T HUNT.

  • @ClassicNintendoShow World of Warcraft shits on the gaming community! Let the trolling commence!

  • Comment removed

  • I ordered my cdz on ebay for $200. CAN'T WAIT TO GET IT!!

  • I just won a cdz on ebay! Cant wait till it comes in the mail!

  • Which one of the two is better VANQUISH OR RED FACTION ARMAGEDDON?Which one is more popular Halo 3 vs Gears of War 3 on X-Box 360 or Killzone 3 vs God of War 3 on

Playstation 3?Which of the two is the most underrated Star Gladiator Episode 1 or StarBlade on Playstation 1?Is Onimusha Quadrilogy HD Remake ,Onimusha 5 and Final Fantasy 10 HD Remake coming out any time soon for PS3?Is Dark Souls the hardest video game in history behind classic Ghosts and Goblins? My apologizes for so many questions!

  • Why spend so much money for all NEO-GEO consoles and Panasonic 3DO?Those consoles should of been sold $70.00 each, each game sold for $30.00 and each controller sold for $30.00 in order to beat Nintendo,SONY and SEGA.

  • @GoodAlwaysDieYoung And how were they supposed to stay alive while losing so much money?

  • @LizardkingMario I don't know!

  • Its marky mark and the funky games

  • This is crazy, you gotta stop saying neo-geo cd/z. Cracks me up.

  • The PlayStation loading times were about half of this was, still isn't bad, but that might be because I was used to it because I was around then when it was new, still it isn't bad, there is no point in complaining.

  • @KITT171 And I wasn't talking about you Mark, only the fools now.

  • Nice review. Neo-Geo was every boys wet dream after going home from the arcades thinking how their snes/genesis was crap compared to this ( for arcade games anyway). You sound a bit like Ray Romano you know that?

  • Who gives a shit about 1990 game cosoles anymore?

  • @taftarat As I continue to watch this review, after replying to your comment already...I'm more and more amazed at what a sheltered, ignorant ass you must be to make such a comment. And I know I'm not the only person thinking this.... :-)

  • @MrCumstein ok i heard your opinion. Now lets hear the arguments: why is this review exists?

  • @taftarat Dude, it's the NeoGeo! What more needs to be said to justify it? If you don't care for retro gaming, that's cool, not everybody does. Maybe you didn't grow up playing these games and therefore have no nostalgia towards them, but many of us do, myself included.

  • @MrCumstein i had sega mega drive II, but compared that was crap. i dont feel nostalgia for old technology..

  • @taftarat You're entitled to your opinion dude, I don't begrudge you that. Take a look at the number of views and subscribers for channels such as CGR and it's obvious that many of us do give a shit about 90's game consoles. But hey, to each his own.

  • @taftarat So, I think I'll get back to my game of Military Madness on my piece of shit TG16. :P

  • @taftarat collectors, ppl interested in history more games nostalgic value

  • I ALMOST DIED :C

  • I TRULY PUKED WHEN THE SHARPIE CAME INTO THE VIDEO . I SWEAR ON MY LIFE .

  • @srazor66 Wow you got a weak ass stomach

  • @srazor66 why did you puke?!

  • on the neo geo CD, you liked how it does NOT have a button to open the door, yet on here, you talk about the CDZ having handy open button and how cool it is..

wtf dude.. at least be consistent. we already have to stand the annoying background music all throughout the damn video.. -.-

  • Why is it people who keep this stupid over heating myth going keep quoting word for word stuff of wiki? its BS so unless you have had one of these cdz's that somehow melted lol dont say anything at all :)

  • I love how he says: "Hey look at that! This one opens with a button."

  • What is the song at 00:3?

  • @UFRecords01, Larger Cache.

  • i found 3 of theese on ebay.....the cheepest one with a "buy it now" price of 1055. and a bidding price of 775!

  • Hmm, he pointed out in the normal Neo Geo cd review that it looks like a sega saturn, but does anyone think that the cdz looks like a dreamcast... sort of?

  • THAT'S HARD TO PRONOUNCE!

  • Good review as usual, but it would have been nice to explain WHY CDZ loads faster.

  • That priceless "mmmmm" at 0:56

  • Wow it is open wow

  • I am thinking of getting a Cd unit, is the price difference worth it, I play the Neo Geo mostly for shooters and fighting games.

  • FLC lol hah ;P WOW openbutton!

  • @DukeNukem2012

You know what's sad? That those old game consoles are malfunctioning after years.

I've got a PSX (SCPH - 9002) from my friend that can play copies. I tried to play my original Crash Bandicoot 3 on it, but it freezes. I hope I can buy a new laser for it so I can play my newly bought Time Crisis :D

    Retro Gaming Rules!

  • @LordCiemnosciEXE the PSX was the only console I ever ran into any problems with. My NES, Genesis, SNES, Gameboy Pocket, and N64 all still work fine with no issues.

  • The funny thing is, kids now are complaining about "Load Times" on Xbox 360 and PS3. These new cd-based consoles load so fast compared to older cd-based consoles, it's not even funny.

  • @DukeNukem2020 It's just not healthy to want everything so damn fast. They got the god freakin' damn console after nagging daddy for 5 minutes, and then they can't take a minute plus from their lives. This is simply bad.

  • @DukeNukem2020 really they are? I dont even think there are load times anymore or they do somthing in the load times street fighter 4 the guy talks and stuff. but no games ever have has a black screen that says loading. I was never bothered by load times as a kid though.

  • @DukeNukem2020 neither the XBOX 360 or PS3 are CD based. The XBOX uses DVD's and the PS3 DVD's or Blueray disks. Also both offer the option of installing games to a Hard Drive which further reduces game load times.

ALSO(!) both consoles offer games via download onto their Hard Drives (still Disk drives though).

Even better(!) you can play games & media from flash drives which have no moving parts!

  • @timlaman Well, do you know what DVDs and Bluerays are based off from? Yes, you guessed it...CDs. CDs, HD-DVDs, DVDs, Blue-rays have all the same format, the difference is size and quality. You must be a kid that never lived through the ages like me and InecomCompany have. But my point is that there are still loading times for games based from CDs. I've been around since the Sega Master System age so I know what I'm talking about. Go back watching Irate Gamer's stupidity. lol.

  • @DukeNukem2020 To show them how much of a greedy bastard they can be, I show them my Sega Saturn and Atari 2600. Then I tell them to be happppppppppy.

  • @DukeNukem2020 The longest load-times I've experienced are the installation times on Metal Gear Solid 4. Really, though, I'm prepared to wait a bit for my games; I hate a pet hate for people with no patience.

  • @SuperNESFreak haha, you're lucky. The longest I've had to wait was during the original Playstation age(1995), and those games loaded 3x as long, at least for a fast loader.

  • @DukeNukem2020 First Metal Gear Solid game - no loading screens.

    Konami is the shit.

  • @DukeNukem2020 And I mean the actual installation times (well over 10 minutes, IIRC). The actual loading times are really quick.

  • @DukeNukem2020 im 14 and im a retro console collector and well i love my genesis and my atari 2600, the loading time offcourse is a shit, but i love it also becouse then i can go to the kitchen and grab some coca !

  • @darkdevil905 lol the sega genesis and atari 2600 are cartridge based there are no loading times! Cartridge games don't load, they build. Everything is always being built, and the build times are 1/100 the time of a loading time with a disc.

  • @DukeNukem2020 CD based consoles!? The PS3 uses Blu-Rays and DVDs. While the 360 uses DVDs. the newest (popular) system to actually use CDs would be the Dreamcast. And also the load times on new games can be crappy I mean look at Sonic '06!

  • @yoshinator2000 Gawd, you're a freaking Dumbarse. DVDs and Blu-Rays are a CD FORMAT. THEY ARE A COMPACT DISC! What else are they, a CASSETE? No wait, they could be BETA MAX. What are schools teaching kids now? Did you know that they're called Blu-Ray DISC and Digital Video DISC(DVD)? They're just higher formats of a CD. It's like saying that Navy Blue isn't a shade of Blue.

  • @DukeNukem2020 Yeah I'm the dumbass that is why you freak out over CDs. And for the record I know a lot about CDs and other related things. I know that they are both forms of discs, but they are completely different things to people that are not as smart as me or you, because of their different uses in media.

  • @DukeNukem2020 I know what you mean, the Playstation one had god awful loading times. ANOTHER ADVANTAGE FOR THE N64!!!

  • @CaptFat123 Remember there were games that were multi-cd like Metal Gear Solid, Final Fantasy, Resident Evil 2, and so on? I kind of liked games that were 3 or 4 CDs long, Kind of made me feel like the game was going to be a long game. I'm kind of glad Final Fantasy XIII was 3 cds long, brought back memories.

  • @DukeNukem2020 I remember Gran Turismo 2 coming out on two discs, also Command & Conquer Red Alert for the pc. Loading times weren't bad, but heck the game was so awesome it had TWO discs! xD

  • @DukeNukem2020 I've found that it takes longer to load on the newer games rather than the older ones

  • @MrNotARussian I remember Metal Gear Solid and Final Fantasy VII loaded in a reasonable time. GTA IV's initial loading time sucks.

  • @DukeNukem2020 Two words. Cassette loading.

  • @TeamRocketReviews How old are you. Cassettes never, or very rarely, "Loaded". The only ones to ever load were the 64DD(which was a zip disc thing) and the Famicom disc drive(which was a floppy disc). But I never owned a cassette that never loaded.

  • @DukeNukem2020 The ZX Spectrum, Commodore 64, and many other computers from the 80's. The cassette format was more popular in Europe. Over here in America, most Commodore 64 users had floppy drives, which were much faster. Cassettes were a lot cheaper, and most European game developers standardized on cassettes.

  • @TeamRocketReviews Usually floppy discs did load since they were like a mini disc in a way. But why would a cassete load? There's no lense, moving parts, nothing. It plugs directly into the motherboard. Well, the commordore 64 was a pc in a way.

  • @DukeNukem2020 It works like an old dialup modem. You obviously are some sort of console kid who knows nothing of real gaming (computers).

  • @TeamRocketReviews Even though I'm 30 and I think it's a waste of money to upgrade your computer every 5 months to play the newest game, I know why a game would "Load" and not.

  • That does sound interesting! I'm willing to bet, though, that this model was released only in Japan. I heard that the Neo-Geo CD was released in the USA but it virtually didn't sell at all.

  • @jowrab Well, some preffere to play on the actual console and use the actual controller. Not to mention Emulators are illegal. That's why most sites tell you to actually own the game. As then you can defend the use of the rom as a backup, since you already payed for said game. But in all cases, Roms are illegal. Luckily, game companies haven't taken any actions against the users/makers of emulators and roms.

  • @SakuraAvalon who says emulation is illegal it all depends on what your emulating ps3 xbox 360 ect but snes sega all fair game them companys dont make money from these products anymore and have you seen anyone charged for emulation?

  • @rhodesy71 It is illegal, companies just won't hassle you for it, because it'd cost WAY to much money and time to find these sites and battle with them just to stop you from stealing old stuff.

It's an ilegal action that has no consequences, because it'd cost to much to pursue the people who emulate.

  • @SakuraAvalon True there going to loose money

  • @SakuraAvalon who says emulation is illegal it all depends on what your emulating ps3 xbox 360 ect but snes sega all fair game them companys dont make money from these products anymore and have you seen anyone charged for emulation?like you say they dont bother

  • @rhodesy71 that actually doesnt matter if they wanted to be gay and caught you with say 5 snes roms you dont own they could sue you with quite a few law suits

  • who cares about the open putton

  • can anyone help me remember what console im thinking of. they ported resident evil 4 to it but it had its graphics downgraded quite a bit and it had othergames for it to but i cant remember what the console is called

  • @PsiloCybinDreamX Nintendo Wii

It had RE4 and had the same graphix as its predesor the Gamecube

  • @PhantomOfTheGamer no dude not a nintendo wii, it was like kinda a knockoff type system not any system everyone knows about. i forget the console but it had kinda nintendo 64/xbox1 type graphics

  • @PsiloCybinDreamX xbox 1 is far superior than a n64 not that iam knocking the 64 excelent machine but the xbox is probably 4 to 6 times the power of 64 try playing doom 3 half-life 2 ect on a n64?

  • @rhodesy71 lol you dumbass im comparing them together like mixing crappy n64 graphics with an xbox graphics if that makes any sense

  • @PhantomOfTheGamer i just found out what system it was its called a zeebo

  • @PhantomOfTheGamer the wii is a gamecube with motion controllers packaged as a new system as you probably know all gamecube games work on the wii

  • @jowrab legal reasons

  • Is the av output the same as the sega genesis av output? It looks very similar.

  • This is truly the greatest reviews about games and consoles on the net. Awesome stuff :-)

  • i saw this on ebay for 70$

  • That arcade Joystick looks beyond awesome. It's so big.

  • @MattTheSaiyan

    Thats what SHE said. P

  • now that's a arcade stick

  • wow! by the time that Neo Geo CD game started i could of made myself a sandwich by now O_O

  • Looks like a smaller Sega Saturn^^

  • PLS review the front loader! thumbs up so he can read it pls!

the front loader is awesome! pls pls review it!

  • @0M9H4X

the front loader version is very rare, and it's only released in Japan.

  • @HLM190586:

yes, i once saw one going for 88€ on ebay with box, manuals and all hook-ups.

too bad i was too late :(

  • i wouldn't say the CDZ is all that rare, i got mine on ebay... there were a whole lot of them available, cost me around $120. Not too bad for a Neo Geo i would say.

  • @chaobreeder20

much better to get the rgb scart-cable for the neo geo cd and cdz, which is a component connection and far better than picture quality than s-video.

  • only has a problem, you forgot to say where we can buy a console and games, if you know any honest site that i can buy one let me know thnak you

  • @Nirond

Ebay, thats about it. Do that or go to the thrift store.

These things are rare now, there is not many places you can get them from.

  • @Gmod1001 thank you for you information buy ebay are too expensive those, more tham play staion 3 no make sense

  • @Nirond

Because these are really rare now so if you do find one it is going to be pricy, either save up for one or settle for a standard CD, they are less rare and therefore, less expensive. Mark doesnt even own the one in the video, he borrowed it, so he can not even really afford one or can find one.

  • @Gmod1001 what r u talking about i no where to find about 20 of them like in one spot

  • @cpms5151 Ok where? Neo-Geo CDs' are easy to find, but a CDZ is rather rare, and expensive. :\

  • @Gmod1001 my uncle has a werehouse with old shit from collesting over the decades(not decade, decades)

  • fun

  • 42 still people got a NEO-GEO CD

  • what are the best ds games at the moment and which should i get?? (just got an acekard) :)

  • @hamptonpanthers well i have a ds but i just have games like pokemon and dbz

  • it may not load THAT much faster, but it does load more efficiently and smoother. just goes to show how important drive cache is!

  • BLT.........MMMMMMM lol

  • Thanks for the speed comparison. I just bought a cdz off of ebay after owning the original top-loader model from its launch. Its a great system; sturdy and got lots of enjoyment out of it. The original system is great for the older games. But bought the cdz for the fighting game discs. Would have loved to see a speed comparison with some of the King of Fighters CDs or even Samurai Shodown 2.

  • neo geo was mad

    mid ninties was fuken mad!

    amiga was mad

    dune2 was mad!

    and predator is mad!

  • I bet they put Sonics DNA to make the Neo Geo CDZ load faster

  • AbhiB Is not that its going to blow nothing its just gonna freeze and the fan mod is for hardcore gamers that give the poor CDZ long rides. If your is new or barely use you dont need that, just get it in a ventilated cool area.

  • Even with that little problem it was better made than the Xbox360 and its red ring of dead. Retro rules

  • @lordkaicer i don't get why the CD and Z can overheat so much. the thing has the same CPUs as the Genesis and SegaCD, and you don't hear about THOSE overheating. it's not like they're clocked THAT much faster...

i really think both consoles are just poorly ventilated honestly.

  • Matthew is now in hospital thanks to you

I would like to see Last blade 2 and AOF3 eith the cut scenes comparsion as well

    Godd review neverless

  • Yes it has faster loading time but it has a lot of crashes too, because lack of ventilation and heating. If you want to take the CDZ to the real level you have to do a fan mod or whatever mod you may come with for ventilation. Just give it a 2 an a half hour of non stop play and you will eventually see it. I better stay wi th the neo geo cd and the consolize mvs.

  • @lordkaicer

I have a neo CD and CDZ BUT never played the Z

so I need a fan, just to play it for 2 crummy hours only, so what without it, it will last what 30 mins

and what happens anyway, do it blow a circuit if you play it longer than nesscary ?

  • @lordkaicer i call bull!!! i own a CDZ and its crashed maybe 3 times in 5 years and i can you for a fact when i use it its on for a good 2 to 3 hours!!!! my 360 and PS3 have crashed and coursed my way more problems lol....

the overheating rumor was and always will be a stupid made up myth! think about it how the hell does a 24bit console with a super slow 1x cd drive overheat? and it had more vents then both the PS1 and saturn (PS1 hasnt even got vents haha)

  • If you really want to get into the Neo Geo scene get an MVS or a consolized MVS. The games are way way cheap on the MVS side of things and still no load times.

  • I don't know for you guys, but he almost gave me a heart attack too XD

  • It is an amazing console it's really worth.

  • Neo Geo CD gonZales

  • I would've loved to get my console back signed by Mark =D

  • This is my CDZ, it is for sale if you guys want.

  • NEO GEO CD Zlim

  • Did Neo-Geo CD/CDZ have good 3rd party support?

  • Mine took forever to load one game.. that monkey juggling pissed me off so much i sold it lol.

  • j'adore le boot <3

  • Nice video. I am actually thinking of selling my Neo Geo AES with two controllers and two games to buy a Neo Geo CDZ. I was wondering if you have a Neo Geo AES and if you would be interested buying mine. I am asking $400 or best offer not including for the system, two controllers, two games, and a memory card. Thank you for your time.

  • wow?

  • NEO-GEO CDZ :)

  • I made the mistake of buying the CDZ not knowing that it was Japanese only so all my games are in japanese, but it's an awesome system if you love the SNK games.

  • @hiawa23 uh dude...... i can play american neogeo cd games on mine. The cdz is not region locked.

  • @hiawa23 It is region free....

  • im only on here to pass time between Mark's E3 vids..

i notice that everyone else hasnt been on here since b4 E3 started.

  • @9B1T no i have i love E3

  • if the AES was successful, why they released a CD CONSOLE ..SYSTEM ?

  • @parloitaliano1 It wasn't a complete success. Providing the AES/MVS on the home was expensive at making and expensive on the shelves. The CD move was a cost cutting move to prevent high price tags.

  • @GaBB0256 yea... it does looks like a Saturn crossed with a PS1...

  • The CDZ looks a bit like a original PS1

  • @davidus444 kinda looks like a PS1 crossed with a Saturn to me

  • looks like a bulkier version of the playstation

  • If you want to play without loading times a say go for the virtual console NeoGeo

  • Note to sell instead of ur corny jokes get to the point of the product next time fuckin A

  • wow he sounds like a drunken 40 year old guy!!!

  • Probably a consolized MVS system would be the best. Not as expensive as an AES, not as cheap as CD(still hard to find though). But the games are much cheaper and no loading times or lag from an MVS to AES converter!

  • @jdigitalseven I have consolized Mv_1f with REI mod and unibios3.0. But I kinda lazy to complete the collection since the value-less of the mvs carts.

  • i felt the heart attack 2 matthew

  • Respond to this video...LOL

  • just looked at 1 it cost 290 with no games T_T, but this came out when ps1 came out hmmm XD

  • I know this wasn't the case with the AES, but with the CDZ if u put an American game into it will it be in English? Or will it be the language the system was encoded with?

  • Psh, I'd rather have a glorious neo-geo mes.

    No loading times baby!

Gaming's superior format will always be the cartridge, they need to go back to those bad boys.

As a matter of fact, I've seen flash drives with like 64 gigs on them, way more than a dvd that we put games on now.

    Make it happen!

  • lucky him

  • Yeah.. lol

  • Yeah but what about that poor juggling monkey :(

  • load times are far improved over th original ngcd

  • It kinda looks like a first version saturn.

  • it looks like the saturn!

  • THATS WHAT I SAID TOO!!!! AND PEOPLE KEPT TELLING ME IT LOOKED LIKE A PLAYSTATION?!?!?!?!?!?!

    Thank you - VisceriousZERO

  • The dreamcast kind of looks like this

  • well metal slug isnt a fighting game but its still a great game on the system

  • the Neo Geo CD is a cool console though in all honesty, quite a few Neo Geo games released at the time were ported onto other systems.

most of the Neo Geo ports on the Sega Saturn are arcade perfect or nearly arcade perfect and have much faster loading times.

Games like metal slug, king of fighters 95/96/97 ,and a few fatal fury games were some of the best fighting games on the Saturn.

  • @ ViciousAlienKlown,

The CDZ just had a larger amount of cache, the CD-ROM motor is still only a 1x speed CD-ROM.

BTW, I don't know if this has been mentioned in the previous comments here, but the CDZ has a design flaw which sometimes causes the unit to overheat after certain periods of time. Because of a lack of adequate ventilation, there is a serious risk of permanent damage that can occur to the circuit board.

  • do you play it on a wood panel tv?

  • i have a neo geo mvs arcade

  • Is there anything cooler than a NeoGeo?

  • @Cineviggo

Yes, there is.: Burning ppl with monsters and cutting them in halfitude.

  • So the CD-z is a double speed CD rom and the regular CD is a single speed CD Rom?
