Actually, the different wave-lengths of white light REFRACT through the water droplets by different amounts, separating the colours, displaying the visible spectrum. Light reflecting off water droplets does not also cause it to refract.

@chenbaiwan when no rainbow shows up there is no WHITE LIGHT (white light = sun light which concludes all colors or some halogeen lamp which also concludes all colors) .. if you tested it with a non pure white light there will be no rainbow and yes indeed you will fail on your experiment. Also when you watch it from the WRONG VIEW there will be no rainbow.
