I think that Sherie Renee Scott is a fabulous performer, and if this was an all original musical I would have no issues with her voice. But as it is, Pat Carroll is the original and her voice was much deeper. And there are so few great roles for 2nd altos as it is, so I'm a little irked at whoever decided to deprive them of this one by giving it to a mezzosoprano.

Yes, I will say that her interpretation is a bit lighter, but I think that makes her so much fun to watch! Apparently now though, the new Ursula, Faith Prince, said she is trying to make the role much darker and sinister after she "hooks" ariel. I have not seen her performance yet so, who knows?

It's the choreography for the movements + the costume, not her fault.... Besides... Go see her live before you say anything!... Go see the show live! All Ursulas follow the choreography! Go see several of them!
I agree. The movie used the freedom of water to let characters "fly" in 3-dimensions, and there's just no way to recreate that on a one-dimension stage show.
I expect this play to close sometime in 2009, due to lack of interest from adults.

I love Pat Carols interpretation but Sherie brings a different, fresh, new portrayal to Ursula. It doesn't mean she is wrong its just a different perspective on the character. I think she does exceptionally well and completely stole the show.

I loved the dance that flotsam and jetsam did when I saw this live and this is the onlt video that even has them slightly dancing so this is automatically my fave even if it doesn't have the whole thing sits still awesome!
Omg...she looks freaky! Which is awesome! But I love the originals voice better. The costumes are amazing!
